Investing YouTube Channels Are a Scam (So is This One)

Today I’m going to explain something that most personal finance and investing KZreadrs DON’T want you to know - and that’s that you’re probably better off NOT watching our videos.
I started this channel over 2 years ago with the goal of first learning how to invest my own money, and then documenting and sharing my experience along the way. I knew nothing about investing besides the fact that I should be doing it, and the more money I put away the better chances I had of reaching financial freedom.
So I committed to doing weekly videos and threw myself into investment research. But now, 2 years and over 120 videos later, I’ve realized my investment returns would have been much better off if I walked away from this channel after video #3. And unless you’ve been learning what NOT to do from my channel, the same might be true for you.
Whether you’re a creator or a viewer in the finance KZread space, as I recap my KZread career in this video, I think you’ll recognize that there are a lot of things that go on behind the scenes that can be quite harmful to our financial habits as a whole. Although I don’t think anyone intentionally sets out to scam viewers or lead people astray, I feel like it’s an unavoidable effect of creating investing content on KZread.
Ultimately, I’ve realized that creating content has cost me time, money and happiness that would’ve been better spent elsewhere - and I could say the same about watching most other investing content, too. So in an effort to live a happier, more balanced and more financially sound life, here’s why I think most investing KZread channels are a scam, even my own.

    Good on you man. I wish more youtubers would step away when they realize they're just making videos for the sake of it. I think you did the responsible thing making this video showing how the various investment strategies worked for you (good and bad) and then stepping away. Bravo

    The global financial system is in terrible shape and everything is crashing to a degree not seen by even the most seasoned investors. They just have more money to lose than we do! Lol! You are an honest person and it shows in your work. In the end we all are adults and made these investment decisions, good or bad, and can’t blame anyone but ourselves. I was one of the ones who took your advice on Celsius, but I KNEW ahead of time about the phrase “not your keys, not your crypto”. I was lucky because I saw no point in further investing in Celsius when they stopped allowing more deposits from US investors. I did not feel I could continue to make any real money without being able to continue depositing. I withdrew everything and moved elsewhere, and less than a month later, they filed for bankruptcy. But, even if had lost, I still made my own decisions and would not have blamed you. If you are in crypto, and if you don’t have it secured with your own keys, you have nobody but yourself to blame. I wish you the best and enjoy some time away to reset! Be well and safe in this wild world!

    I've been investing for a long time but when I first got into learning more via KZread, I found your channel and became hooked. Honestly, your passion about your stock picks influenced me to pick them up. I owned ASLE (sold at a small loss), MAPS (sold at a small loss), LTMCF (sold at a small gain), and still own a large holding in STEM (down around 50% after DCA'ing a lot). While I honestly did gain a lot of knowledge from you, ultimately I learned that I need to learn how to pick my own stocks instead of following YT advice. Additionally I opened up a Celsius account per your recommendation which... well we know how that is working out. I really lost interest in your channel when you started covering risky speculative alt coins, but that is ok. Echoing the "much respect" and "appreciate the honest" from other viewers for your honesty and transparency. Just one thing, it sounded a little like you were jaded over stock picking and that after this journey, you have it figured it out. I would take a step back again and understand that you probably haven't figured it out and there is still value in researching/stocking picking if you enjoy it. If you don't, your strategy looks perfect. Good luck on your financial journey... I'm sure you will do just fine.

    First time I have ever seen you is today. Your candor was appreciated. As I have been looking for an alternative income source via online. Sorry if you are losing your desire for youtube. I would think no matter how much I believe in the 50/50 financial markets , I would still want to making it from somewhere. Like youtube. UBU, no doubt. Blessings to you in your other endeavors. Especially if they are with family. ✌️

    Respect brother. Have always enjoyed your content. I’d like to start a KZread channel myself, but I enjoy consuming content and learning even more haha producing content seems tough. A good reminder that we all need time off from these things.

    For the 1st time in a long while, I finaly see a truthful youtube video in the investing world. Thank you. I watched an earlier video of yours and had subbed. Wish the other guru's were as honest. Was wondering if you think that some of these guys pushing horrible high risk high yield stuff are getting kick back?

    Tyler, I really appreciate your honesty. I have thoroughly enjoyed your content and hope you will create more when you feel the inspiration! Question: do you think the growth and appreciation on your domestic and global REITs will outpace inflation? I have some exposure to REITs but am considering going all equities and crypto.

  • @ValueForInvestors

    @ValueForInvestors

    Жыл бұрын

    Tbh, I think it’s probably a poor time to be buying REITs with the real estate market starting to show cracks. But i don’t want to worry about timing too much anymore, I know I want to hold REITs long term anyway for diversification. (It’s a relatively small proportion for me anyway) Plus, I don’t even know if equities will outpace inflation when it’s at +8-9%. So I have to hold a really long time frame for both. Crypto is another story. I’m buying a lot of Bitcoin lately. 🤓

    Hey bud, you got to break some eggs to make an omelet... I'm damn well astonished that there are people, like yourself, who can look back, take stock, and be honest about things. Especially when you understand the financial incentive to just be a real scam. For someone like me, although I have lost along some of the same lines (crypto in particular), what you've done is motivate me get off the couch, and pay attention, rather than losing the bulk of my money to inflation. The gamble of higher risk investing, while ultimately not wise, certainly can be exciting, and eventually you learn to settle into what works for you. Granted, I haven't become rich, but I've managed to beat sitting still, had fun, and learned a lot I didn't know. With some lessons being more expensive than others. I don't know. But good on you, and good journeys.

    Hey, I really respect that you made this video. In general, I think you do a great job and respect your opinion on finance. But the fact that you grew and acknowledged mistakes really makes you stand out. I learned a lot from your channel about dividends. I put it to good use. But my life just became $20k easier because of Biden. So my need for dividend investing has largely gone away. I still want a portion of my portfolio for income though. And because of channels like yours, I know a lot more. So maybe instead of focusing on your own strategy, try just doing anything and everything finance. Or not. I'm sure you'll put out quality content no matter the topic. Hope you still produce content. Regards.
