CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Frank (Al Pacino) keeps his cool while Randy (Bradley Whitford) tells a degrading story about him, until Randy mocks Charlie (Chris O'Donnell).
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Driven by an extravagant, tour-de-force performance by Al Pacino, Scent of a Woman is the story of Frank Slade (Pacino), a blind, retired army colonel who hires Charlie Simms (Chris O'Donnell), a poor college student on the verge of expulsion, to take care of him over Thanksgiving weekend. At the beginning of the weekend, Frank takes Charlie to New York, where he reveals to the student that he intends to visit his family, have a few terrific meals, sleep with a beautiful woman and, finally, commit suicide. The film follows the mis-matched pair over the course of the weekend, as they learn about life through their series of adventures. Though the story is a little contrived and predictable, it pulls all the right strings, thanks to O'Donnell's sympathetic supporting role and Pacino's powerful lead performance, for which he won his first Academy Award. Scent of a Woman is based on the 1975 Italian film Profumo Di Donna.

@@Thewhitekorean, yes, it annoyed Frank that Randy called Charles Chucky, but I always thought that all of Randy's insults were a good part of the reason Frank snapped on him, but saying "Chucky" was just the last straw, a final annoyance mounted onto the hurt he felt from all his insults. I don't think him saying "Chucky" was the only reason he snapped, even if that's what he was yelling about. I think that Frank just wasn't sure exactly how to express his words at that moment about the other stuff.

Yeah, Bradley Whitfield's character was a jerkass. And with the way Al just sits there saying "whoo-ah" where you can see that he can't think of anything to say in his defense, which is sad because for much of the rest of the movie, his character was always able to think of many good things to say and have many great responses to people. It just shows how in this particular scene, Whitfield is poking at a deeper hurt and pain in him than anyone else in the movie did. And of course, Pacino throwing Whitfield against the wall wasn't because he called Chris O'Donnell Chucky, he was waiting for an excuse to react to the horrible things Whitfield was saying, he was jabbing at the biggest hurt in his life, the incident which made him blind.

Hi Neighbor, yes, Bradley Whitfield has always been good at playing arrogant snobs. I remember him from Adam Sandler's Billy Madison, he was in Cobb, Tom Hank's Philadelphia, and he was also the jerkass in Revenge of the nerds. Oh and the cheating boyfriend is Adventures in babysitting, almost forgot about that one, hadn't seen it in so many years.

It's probably a bit of both. You can see how Frank gets irritated every time Brandy calls Charlie, Chuckie. It's also one of the beautiful sides of Frank's character (which you also see in the final speech). I think you may have misinterpreted the movie if you missed that. That is unfortunate, because the movie is brilliant.

Be it the awkwardness of this dinner conversation or the risk of dying in the Ferrari driven by Frank or the scene when Frank is going to commit suicide and Charles (nervous and frightened) ready to risk his life to save Frank. The entire movie is shot in Charles point of view the story gets unfolded for us along with him. One of my all time favourite.
