Scania Legend 2013: Watch a Scania R 730 V8 Streamline come to life

This time-lapse video shows a Scania R 730 Streamline being built from the ground up and subsequently delivered to the customer in Germany.
Scania trucks are built using a modular product system. This allows Scania to build nearly any type of truck from a limited number of building blocks. The system ensures customers get exactly the right vehicle for their transport needs. It also means they have access to parts, as well as fast, reliable service, no matter where they are in the world.
As soon as a truck is ordered, a number of processes begin. At Scania's various production units, work begins on the axles, cab, engine, frame and gearbox. Once these components are completed they are delivered to the chassis assembly line closest to the vehicle's final destination. Scania chassis assembly lines are located in Södertälje in Sweden, Angers in France, São Bernardo do Campo in Brazil and in Zwolle in the Netherlands.
This video, shot on location in Zwolle, shows the assembly of a R 730 V8 truck. The process typically takes seven hours and involves some 500 people located at 65 stations along the assembly line.
Once a truck leaves the assembly line, the process of adding any extras items -- for example, options requested by the customer -- can begin. This can take anything from a couple of hours to several days. It generally takes only eight weeks from the time a truck is ordered to the time the completed vehicle is delivered to the customer.

Most trucks in the USA are sold as gliders. Meaning that the manufacturer assembles the truck without the Engine, transmission, driveline and rear axles, which are installed by the dealer or the customer. Scania could sell its engines and in America, and customers can choose to put them into their peterbilts, kenworths, and freightliners. This way, apart from the choice of Detroit Diesel, Caterpillar, and Cummins, customers could also go for Scania. In fact, in the USA, most Volvo Trucks are equipped with Cummins Engines. But in order to do this, Scania would need to adapt its engines to fit american truck mounts and Eaton-Fuller Transmissions.

thanks to al the rules here, trucks have to be safe and fuel efficient, so that's why they are packed with al gadgets that you would only expect in expensive luxury cars or motorhomes, and they do a million miles easely, and then they going to be exported to a bananarepublic to begin a second life. Also here most truckdrivers don't own the truck, but the company they work for, and the work space for the driver must pass alot of regulations for his safety and health, so that's why the interior looks like a executive office on wheels.

Only truck we see around here is Volvo but it's not the same Volvo you would expect in Europe. NA and Europe models are two completely different animals which is a shame.

Peter Sab Yes I must agree there, been in macdonalds once in Edinburgh. The packing looked tastier than the crap in it. Given where I live most meat produce is local and well acclaimed for quality I can honestly say I've tasted some of the best, anyone who eats at macdonalds can't have much taste.

Kinda jealous of that cab over design that gives such amazing access to the engine bay and everything behind it, must be nice to work on. American tractors are great and all, but its like they were designed for 5 foot tall 100lbs people to work on.

Thunders what a beast! My ex-boyfriend had a Scania truck with a V8 motor, he always had long trips away from home. When I asked him about his destination, he always replied with: "Frikandellenbos". Must be some kind of trucker meeting. Wowzers what a production line!
