Why would you dislike this? Description is accurate, video and audio are good quality without stupid effects. WTF were you lot expecting?

Well that brings back memories! Found some pictures at home of the Unipower HET and Nicolas trailer in the workshop shortly before trials and thought I’d look on KZread to see if still exists. Thanks for the trip down memory lane….

Glad you enjoyed the video, thanks for the comment. The Unipower is semi-retired now and lives in the Scottish Highlands.
Lovely.Thank you mr tl50camiva for share this awesome logistic and transport service.I love this kind of transports of Heavy and Abnormal loads.Wonderful video i may say.Thank you again.Greetings.
Great video, love to watch these super heavy oversized loads maneuver in traffic. I used to haul much smaller oversize loads like continuous miners, shield haulers, dozers and various other heavy equipment to our local coal mines here in Utah, but never anything as super sized as this.
very nice Video with super cool Special trucks. thanks for uploading

I saw them in Dover. Awesome!
That truck doing the pulling is a beast.
'Toontrain'- I think ALE have lots of work around the world, so I'm fairly sure the Unipower won't be finished with just yet. The first of these three moves had a Trojan front and rear, and on this the third move the Unipower is playing a major part as you can see.

That's why the guy climbed up to look, hard to tell from the camera angle, but looks like they could have lowered the trailer/load by 6-10" if they needed to clear the bridge, but they do a lot of pre-work checking clearances/corner radius' when they plan the route.

@@gold5th I was thinking that, in the case of low bridges, the trailer height could be adjusted to fit. The bridge itself didn't have a height limit meaning it is 16'6" or higher (in excess of 5m)
very good videos.
I've just read on another website that ALE are making 6 of these new Trojan 8870's to replace their existing fleet, that being the case I do hope that they don't scrap the Unipower MH8875 as it is in effect "The Last Scammel" and deserves to be preserved as much as any Wynns Contractor, Diamond T or Pacific

Toontrain the last Scammel (used as a tank transporter by the British army) was the Commander or the s26 used by ALE and other heavy haulage operators, both were build at the Scammel works in Watford which doesn’t exist anymore.

@@numbersix100 I used to deliver R/R, later Perkins CV12 engines to Tolpit lane for the S26. Also took new CV12s + gearbox, to Vickers at Leeds and Newcastle, for the Challenger1. Also took reconditioned CV12s to REME at Bovington. The engine plant is now owned by Caterpillar, and all reconditioned engines go 10 miles down the road to COD Donnington.
i saw these 2 montsters last week on the m1 first going north bound then a day or so later going south bound crawling with no load of 30 to 40 mph takeing up 2 lanes with no load on

Impressive vehicle.The generator they were carrying, or whatever it was, looked sort of like a large wheelie bin .
Thanks 'tyredjoe', glad you like it.
At first glance I thought they were Soviet/Russian prime movers used for, amongst other things, hauling ballistic missiles. Damn that was impressive. And in daylight :)
The best of British. A very impressive Company.

What the heck was that lot doing up Silver Street? Where it emerged from are local streets.
Looks like it only just cleared the bridge.. Think I saw something similar in a Thunderbirds episode..

Do local Police handle permits in the UK or is it centralised?.
@nicksykes4575

Each police force has it's own abnormal load dept. When your planning a move, you have to liaise with each forces' area you go through. Several years ago, we were planning a move, and contacted one force, to be told that their abnormal load dept was 1guy, but he'd retired, and they hadn't replaced him!
I get it now...they have every light flashing so that all those support vehicles who have their lights flashing are aware that everyone else is there because if they didn’t have all their lights flashing someone might miss that the two hundred ton lorry in the middle of the road. Other than that, only one motorist needs to know, and that is the car coming towards them...and who is not going to miss a lorry that size, flashing lights or not. Bit of an overkill even for health and safety.
Were those real police in that car? I’ve heard there are real police still around in London, to look after politicians, but I never thought that they still operated outside of the city. We have cardboard cut out police in shop windows around here, but no real ones.

@tilerman

Not Scania's. ALE designed and built these trucks in house and they are called Trojans 8870. They have the Volvo Penta engine producing 700BHP, good for around 500 tons on the level.

The first unit is a Unipower MH8875, former prototype tank transporter (that should have won the contract😁), the tail unit is an ALE Trojan (based on the Unipower), it has a Volvo 16.12 litre, 700bhp / 2375ft-lb engine.
Nice video. Two questions for the experts: Who and how is is the speed controlled? Leading truck, rear truck (don't think so) or... Cheers Adam

Lead truck typically "sets" the speed, and asks rear push truck for throttle or brake. Tight corners where you see the operator out on foot, he calls the shots.

What do the guys do in the little cabs on the main bogey unit?

They are in control of the trailer hydraulics. Lift or lower the trailer to stop it getting grounded and also to keep the trailer level left and right if they hit a camber.

Abnormal Load Engineering. I believe the original company was Robert Wynnes of Newport and I think it was the sons that became involved in setting up ALE. I am sure someone will know with more accuracy. Wynnes pretty much always built or heavily modified their tractor units and it seems ALE have gone a few stages further with their Trojans. What an absolute beast of a machine and what control over all the operating elements of all the matching units when coupled together.They may be more economical than many of their predecessors but I still wouldn't want the fuel bill for one.
