She was not *in fact* armed, or a threat, but the scammers had given him plenty of reason to assume that she was, and created a situation where anything she tried to do to make herself look non-threatening would make her appear to be more deeply involved with the scammers, and thus, more threatening.

  • @JonBrase

@@cbesthelper404 Because the scammer had said she'd show up, and she did. And if she actually were involved in the scam, and were armed, (but still had her weapon concealed), and had been planning to kill him if he didn't produce the money, and if he got the drop on her, you'd expect her to lie through her teeth to save her life, and then to kill him once his guard was down.

  • @cbesthelper404

@@JonBrase He had every ability to not let his guard down, so the point about her killing him once his guard is down is an academic one. He could have not let his guard down by staying inside. He could have not let his guard down without having to shoot her. After he shot her the first time, he could have avoided letting his guard down by retreating himself. This maniac had full control throughout and behaved aggressively for the duration. Did it never occur to him that perhaps she was innocent? Did he entertain that there was even just a remote chance that she was? No!! And that was a decision that he made willingly. It would have crossed his mind that she might be innocent had she been a 25-year-old blonde. That would have confused him enough to let his guard down and back off. But this murderer SAW her as not possibly being anything else but guilty, or at least he PRETENDED that he thought she was guilty to give himself an excuse to kill her. Bottom line, no need to shoot and certainly no need to shoot multiple times. Suppose that were your mother?

I mean if he has dementia, as I did see reported in an article, it's possible his reaction is because of his dementia. Dementia patients don't have the same decision making capabilities as someone without dementia might. They don't have the ability to think through things. And they're notoriously known for being quick to anger & agitation. My great grandmother wrapped a phone cord around my sister's neck when we were kids. We had been pranking her calling the phone so she would answer and no one would be there. She caught on hearing us laughing & just reacted. She had Alzheimer's. My grandmother gets angrier more quickly now. It's hard not being able to remember things you know you should be able to. It's scary not being able to understand what's happening to your brain. You can't reason with someone with this kind of condition when they are angry & feel like they're being questioned. I imagine the woman not knowing what he was talking about made him angry bc he prob thought she was lying. So, I think dementia could absolutely have played a role in why he reacted the way he did in a situation we can look at & see a better reaction. Especially if he had been getting calls & feeling unsafe. One article I read said the scammer threatened to harm his family if he didn't do what he asked. Maybe he thought he couldn't call police about the calls bc he feared what might happen if he did? I don't know what happened. But I do think it's a tragedy all around for everyone involved.

For what it is worth. My 96 year old Grandmother was called by a scammer. He told her that her Grandson, Andy (me), had been arrested and was going to go to jail and they said they could help get me out if she sent money. She was scared and confused. The guy got her so upset, she called 911 because she thought she was having a heart attack. She called me hysterical yelling at me for me being in trouble. Key element wasn't stupidity, it was hatred. At least that's what I'd bet on. Not that there is anyway to prove it, and we will likely never know what went wrong in him. But IMO he, like many people, was likely glued to a tv consuming MSM propaganda. He's paranoid, hateful, and foaming at the mouth to get to use his gun and be hero. Even if she was an accomplice, if his goal was to save his family, gunning down the middle man is the exact opposite of how that would be achieved. He didn't care if she was involved, didn't care about his family, he just wasn't going to let this chance to live out his fantasy slip through his fingers. And I'm not the type to say things like this, but even I gotta say, her being black was probably a big factor. If it was a younger white girl, I doubt he'd have been so eager. That poor girl.. this man deserves prison for life, and I doubt he cares, because he's already got to live a full life. I'd bet that played a role in his decision too.

Ohio Castle Law is not on his side. You have to be in your house or vehicle, and if the other party is trying to leave the threat isn't there anymore (a requirement of the law). Ohio Castle Law also carves out exceptions for delivery drivers and postal workers. I was on a jury once that had to consider a kidnapping charge. In Ohio, it isn't what you think sometimes. Simply preventing someone from leaving when they have a right to leave is enough to trigger this charge in Ohio. You don't have to tie them up and throw them in your trunk.

I know several old people who just sit in their house all day watching the hate-filled propaganda on Fox News and getting angrier and angrier. My grandmother was one of them. She spent her life helping poor/minority children in public schools, but by her final years she was so brainwashed by Fox News that she would spout hate constantly and even physically attacked a couple of brown people, one an hispanic man working in her neighborhood who she referred to as "another damned illegal" . My entire family was relieved when she passed away and we didn't even have a funeral for her because no one liked her anymore.

There was a huge arrest made in Montreal Canada earlier this week of a scammer cell working the "Grandparent Scam". Given that the legitimate police traced the number of Mr. Brock's scammers back to a Bell Mobility service provider the Ohio Police Service may want to reach out the RCMP in an effort to determine if there is any culpability between those arrested, their terrorization of Mr. Brock and the innocent Miss Loletha. It wasn't just about the money this time, it was about the life of a 62 year old woman, and if the lines all trace back to this scammer cell working out of Montreal they must be made to account for robbing Miss Loletha of her life.
