Scaler 2 | Modulation & Unique Chord Progressions

Scaler 2 Workflow Video 2021. Modulation and Unique Chord Progressions.
In this video Davide Carbone demonstrates his process for using the Modulation features within Scaler 2. Here he demonstrates by making several tracks that incorporate all of the Scaler 2 Modulation Presets. By doing so Davide shows how easy it is to come up with unique chord progressions that don’t sit within traditional music scales by getting some help from scaler.

One of the things I love about Scalar is that it teaches you music theory without forcing you to stick to conventions. It lets you learn the rules so you can break them and develop your own sound with the tools it offers.

Some kind of music software really impresses me, because it’s not only about the beautiful art you can do by using it. It’s the beauty in the software itself. How it’s structured, the UI, the ideas behind it...

This video (for me personally as somebody who has compositional ideas but severely limited playing abilities and a limited grasp of music theory) is probably the most important video I have yet encountered. Scaler is truly brilliant and I cannot express enough thanks for your video. Now I just need to find some free time.

Scaler really is the ladder to a springboard that leads to a jumping off point for new harmonic ideas. A brilliant tool especially for those of us who want to become harmonically richer but whose basic theory is lacking. The videos are really educational and illuminating and although one can use Scaler as a simple tool it is also is a very deep and relatively complex software, so the videos are extremely helpful. Thanks:)

I have chord tracks and pads within Cubase Pro and I had already purchased Xfer Cthulhu, which is an arp/chorder with Debussy chords and where you can load your own to play with one finger and explore cool harmonies. I took Scaler mainly for the modulation part, which let me explore cadences, modulations, progressions, how to get far and expecially how to get back. This tutorial, mainly about the different algorithms that you have for modulation, is really the most peculiar part of your plugin in my point of view. The manual explained that, but this video is really useful and helps us to make it right. Today is 26th and I will upgrade instantly to try the new cadences you put in the menu. Keep up the good job (currently Cubase is not smart with this plugin, if you point to Kontakt you have 2 tracks for each instance, so you loose the wish of putting it everywhere and sync..)

Please keep up the excellent work on this awesome application and the videos that you produce for this David. I will be excited to see where this product goes although it is already amazing as it is. While using the iPad with Cubasis 3.5 I have not been successful in triggering scaler from a midi controller without the resulting generated midi being included in the resulted recording as well, this is while using Scaler 2 as a midi effect. I noticed in this video you are able record the triggers only with the desktop setup, is it possible with my use case? Sorry if this is a DAW issue rather than Scaler.

Is there any SW to assist with modulation? Ideally the SW should allow entering the last few chords before the point where modulation should start, setting the length in bars and beats for the modulation to happen, setting the target key and should then suggest different chord progressions / arpgeggios for the modulation.

Yes, absolutely. Written by music composers not AI generated. Just embedded into different keys and modes. Usually ending with the pivot chord to really help you land in your new key and scale.

FANTASTCI!! No other way to explain this wonderful tool. BTW, is ScalerControl something that shows up in Logic only? I don't recall seeing that.

Scaler Control is a MIDI FX which is native to Logic. Functions the same way as having scaler control a third party VST in other DAW's

Thanks for feedback, Davide is following a standard pattern used in Neo Riemmanian theory, an internet search can bring up other patterns used. It's just all theory really so either stay or searching are the best ways.

You can see how it is done at 19:20, but this in Logic Pro, Scaler is placed in Midi Fx section and Kontakt in the Input section. Each DAW handles this different way.
