According to the video, I right click on the parameter I want to midi map in Scaler and then simply move the knob or button on my midi controller to assign that midi maping. However, in my case, when I click a button on my ATOM SQ, nothing happens - it's like Scaler doesn't see it at all. If anyone has any advice, I'd be ver grateful.

I really like Scaler very much as a tool for composing. I'm using it since the first version. Meanwhile it has really become a beast of a plugin and my only concern is the UI (not talking about colours & fonts here). You can change a lot, here and there ..have tons of drop down menus and I think if you are not really into this and just use it occasionally then you might get lost easily. Sooner or later I think Scaler needs an UI update, where the UI is being more logical and simplified (for example the middle part where you can choose the scale is rather big and could be moved to a side bar, etc.) Also the various places for drop down menus could be streamlined and the workflow of binding certain areas to the upper keyboard is not very intuitive.. I think the workflow should also make graphical sense , so that you dont have to jump up and down on the screen often, and can visually follow a certain path for certain things..like composing or performing. I think when Scaler started the central thing was the detection of some midi notes and the UI was built around that. Nowadays when you just use it as composing tool you may start with a certain scale and work down that way. So I think a good UI Design should be able guide through different workflows. Well, I am not an UI Designer and have no actual solution present, but using all sorts of Software through the years I think it would do Scaler good to have an UI Designer look at it. :))

100% absolutely, it is a victim of its own success and it is bulging with features we have had to shoehorn into the current UI. It's at real risk but to be fair just like all the successful softwares were. We are addressing this right now and a complete overhaul from the ground up for the entire UX is in motion. Stay tuned exciting times.....

As someone who uses machine’s chord mode, i still feel like it’s cheating. Im taking the time to learn music theory and while vsts like this make things easier, does this not dilute the art form of music even more?

This is a reoccurring discussion but Scaler will do nothing for you, as will using a sample, or a DAW if you have no creative nous. I am a long term composer and scaler has helped me refine my skills. You could argue you shouldn't use a calculator, or never use a juicer. This discussion comes in whenever new tech is here but scaler helps people from those with limited abilities to those with physical disabilities. If you can make a good tune then make it - whatever your tools at your disposal.

Yes. Very nice - if you want to play in 4/4 time. The only other time signatures available are the exotic 5/4 or 12/8. There is no 3/4 or 6/8. What a very strange decision. So, great for chord sequences, awful for time signatures.

You should try it and see what results you get. Many of the worlds most famous producers, composers and artists use it. Not sure we would call them bland! Scaler has hundreds of features which allow you to create chords from scratch, devious your own scales, use complex modulation. If anything it will help you make less bland music,
