Scaler 2 for iPad now available on the App Store
In this worldwide exclusive, Davide Carbone demonstrates the power of Scaler 2 on the iPad for the very first time. This complete overview video covers functionality exclusive to iPad and demonstrates the versatility of the Scaler 2 iOS by connecting it wirelessly to a Roland F701 Digital Piano and also uses it as a performance and song writing tool within an Audio Mixer. Scaler 2 is a standalone and AUv3 app and it can connect to all your devices using bluetooth Midi In and Out and via WiFi. All sounds and content you hear are 100% created within Scaler 2 for iPad with no added effects.
Davide covers detection, creating chord progressions, suggest mode, song and artist chord sets, scales, modulation, multiple scaler setups and lots more features.
Scaler is available as a free download with all sound and most features unlocked and works perfectly with Scaler 2 plugin available exclusively at Plugin Boutique. All remaining features of the iPad version can be unlocked with one in-app purchase.

    Amazing work on the UI. would great to have a scaled keyboard view for the onscreen keyboard. So you only see a row of keys with just the notes from the scale selected. Great for performance mode. Like in KB1 or Animoog. And maybe swipe up gesture to clear in addition to switch shift or a swipe up gesture to lock the shift. Currently it releases after doing an action using shift.

    David I don't know if you'll ever read this. But I was watching a video of yours lately about Scaler 2. And someone in the chat said 'why bother about having internal sounds in Scaler'. I couldn't believe what I heard. Please disregard this ridiculous comment and please keep adding to Scalers internal sound palette and library. It's so, so handy to have sounds just there to get a demo going fast. I mean that's what Scaler is all about. Thanks for everything.

    Thanks Joey appreciate the nice support. Well we make the internal sounds with great care using some of our favourite gear at samplify so we love them too. The future is all about giving you more customisation to those sounds which will make them infinitely better. Multi layering, ADSR, filtering, looping, effects. I understand that people don't want software bloat and large files but we can have our cake and eat it too!

    XML is the right chord set format. Just export to your desktop and open scaler and import. Or drag and drop. If you import you may need to click on next chord set and come back again to make it appear in section A. Just drag and drop on top of scaler for best results!

    You can do anything with Scaler. There are some dark haunting techno artists that use and contribute to scaler! There are many ways to play around with chords that aren't diatonic or follow convention which Scaler can do but can also offer you great alternatives thanks to its modulation mode and other voicing options. Try it out and experiment. Good luck!

I have moved from Ableton to an Akai Force as the main brain for my live setup but still keep using Ableton also mainly due to Scaler 2. Maybe this will be able to eliminate Ableton from my live jamming setup and give Scaler a bit more of a hardware type feel on the iPad. Looking forward to testing it out.

    Hi, the iOS and Desktop version are separate software, the IOS version can be downloaded for free and you can do quite a bit with the free content and export it over to the VST version. Otherwise both are reasonably priced.

    This video was helpful, but unfortunately on the enlarged view of the iPad, the viewer cannot see what your finger is touching on the iPad you are using. I would suggest you state a function and then show exactly what to select on the iPad. So I am very impressed with the Scaler but know little more about how to make it work on my iPad.

    Thru USB, if I'm not mistaken. I won't say any, but definitely most. Although, you might have to menu dive a bit, and tweak some parameters; depending on brand and compatibility. You might need a USB hub (has one single USB male w/ multiple female inputs to connect to. Usually like 3 or 3l4) if you have more than one device you aim to utilize in tandem. Depends on how you aim to route everything. So for me, I'd probably need a hub to connect to my MPC Live, then I would connect my midi controller (Arturia Minifreak in my case), and my iPad to the USB hub; and maybe my Roland Sp-404. Don't quote me on any of this, as I'm not definitively sure. This info is coming from a dude who's been researching this information for a couple few months now, and it's from the best of what I believe I understand. I imagine that if you're using a hub, you're gonna need to do some menu diving to make sure everything is connected to each other, and again, routed correctly. What I'm trying to figure out, is how old of an ipad I could use to adequately utilize scaler. I'm a poor person, so the more inexpensive, but capable the better. So if you have any tips in that regard, by all means. Basically, you can do whatever you think you can do, you just gotta figure out how to do it. Guaranteed there's some device, app, software, or appropriate cord to make it happen.

    Sure thing, you can just get a iPad to midi cable, and iPad to USB cable (if you midi keyboard has USB) or you could connect via bluetooth. Lots of different ways and Scaler can connect to all with its flexibility.

    The video does not make clear what connection method (protocol) Scaler 2 iPad uses. I see that the Roland F701 keyboard uses: Audio: Bluetooth Ver 3.0 and MIDI: Bluetooth Ver 4.0 Is this the minimum spec connection requirement for Scaler 2 iPad? It would be helpful if you could you explain for those of us who have a DAW/MIDI Studio setup?

  • @SchoolofSynthesis

    @SchoolofSynthesis

    This is an overview video, obviously Scaler 2 iOS is a deep program so impossible to cover everything but in testing we can tell you that we connected it to every bluetooth device in our studio and it has bluetooth midi in and out and we could even control our synths in our desktop DAW by setting the iPad up as a network session. So basically worked wirelessly with everything. Failing that there is always the USB / Lightning connection. Davide has been super fussy about it being able to integrate it in every way. Download the free app June 24 and have a play!
