SAVING VINTAGE NEON - DETROIT 1988

Фильм және анимация

I lived in Detroit for most of the 1980s working at the ABC television station WXYZ. During those years the city had a massive amount of closed business and lots of them had old neon signs hanging on them that hadn't been broken over the years. Before they met the wrecking ball I would salvage any bits and pieces of neon, which I'd refurbish, repurpose as art sculptures and sell in a Southfield art gallery. A reporter from our station, Jerry Staneki, took an interest in my collection and shot this story. You can see at my desk a dog shaped neon, which was from a 1954 Howard Johnson's restaurant sign that was torn down near the TV station.
