VISIT FOUR FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT HOMES IN ONE AFTERNOON
Фильм және анимация
About 40 minutes from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania is Fallingwater, the most famous home designed by America's foremost architect, Frank Lloyd Wright. Nearby Fallingwater you can find a collection of four additional Wright homes that have been moved from their original locations in Minnesota and Illinois to save them from the wrecking ball.
Our tour took place in July 2020 during the Covid19 crisis so the interiors of Fallingwater weren't open to walk through, but the rest of the properties were open if we wore masks.
All four properties we toured can be visited within a 3-4 hour window and if you'd like to stay overnight in one of the houses you can now do that on their website.

I have admired Wright's work for most of my life from age of about 18 to 81 (now). He was an amazing talent. But I think you have to like what he did enough to endure some of the inconveniences they imposed on you if you actually lived in one of his houses. He wasn't too friendly with a lot of people who exceeded his height of 5'-7" or who wanted more room to sleep in than he thought was minimally necessary. I would loved to have met him but hever had the chance. I became an architect primarily because of him and his design abilities and in no small way his personality and how he promoted himself ( I never tried to imitate him in either regard, but then I didn't possess his talent and knowledge ). thanks for the video tours. I visited Falling Water years ago and have visited other Wright sites around the country as well. It's amazing how fresh the designs seem even decades after they were originally designed and built.
The interior of Fallingwater was closed due to the Covid 19 virus but all the terraces and property were open. The other collection of homes were open inside.
I had a friend in libertyville IL when I was in elementary school. She lived in a house designed by Frank Loyd Wright. WOW! I loved that house so much. Wrap around screen covered balconies. Right on the Desplain River. So many little hide away rooms and levels. What an architect he was.

My dad was influenced by the style and a self taught architech and builder. He built many houses and multifamily homes. Providing homes for many families. He was on the leading edge of low energy consumption homes, utilizing passive solar heating and cross ventilation for cooling. He made sun decks and screen dining rooms for outdoor dining only 40 miles from Tallisian.
There is a house not far from me (I live in Australia) that was built by a family that is heavily influenced by FLW’s work. It was up for sale one day and it was open house, it was stunning to say the least. All the fine details, the colours and built in furniture was used. The new owners gutted it and restored it with better quality materials and modern heating/electricity etc… I also went out with an Architect long ago who went to Falling Water for the day and somehow was there at night time as well with the property custodian who pointed out the house is very different at nighttime. She said it very moving and reminded her of going to a beautiful church. I’ll get there one day…..
MANY THANKS for sharing this video about one of the "Greatest Living Architectural Legacies" of Sir Architect Frank Lloyd Wright...His exemplary works particularly this one truly inspired me to finish my architecture studies way back in 1985...I am now 56 yrs old and engaged in Public Service as a government architect assigned to review and approve plans of various Hospitals and Healthcare facilities in my country...More power and keep it up!:)

Hi Reny. I'm so pleased to hear you enjoyed our tour. I've always wanted to visit the house but was SO thrilled to discover his other homes nearby! A double delight, and so nice to hear from you.
It’s so funny. I have on the computer generated subtitles and I believe it heard ‘applause’ for the water sound!

Hi Honey. I’m home! It’s hard to imagine coming home to this amazing piece of architecture.
Also in just a few miles from Fallingwater is Kentuck Knob by Wright which has been open to the public...or was before Covid-19. Worth the visit. Like Fallingwater the house was situated by Wright to work with the terrain.

Little known fact about FLW and his under floor heating. He got the idea while visiting Japan for the Imperial Hotel Project in Tokyo. He was invited to a building to see the CEO of the Hotel, where he experienced under floor heating for the first time. The building was Not Japanese, but Korean. During japanese Occcupation of Korea, Japanese dismantled Korean King's palace and sold off buildings. The CEO of Imperial Hotel bought the building which was quarter for the Crown Prince, and moved it over to Tokyo. Every Korean houses have under floor heating system now, and back then. It's not however a Japanese tradition.
What an amazing mind he had. Very beautiful and interesting. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much for this video, I'm from Brazil and a architect student doing a homework about the fallingwater house, your video help me a lot to better understand this awesome house!

The various Architectural Works of Sir Frank Lloyd Wright inspired me more to finish my architecture studies as compared to the academic encouragement I obtained from my teachers in college...His various architectural projects are TIMELESS and UNIQUE...very seriously thought of and aesthetically created by Sir Wright beyond the works of his generation ..Good Luck in your studies!:)

Thanks for sharing. I only knew about the waterfall house, now I want to see all 4.😃

One of the best things I've done in my life was to visit Falling Water before I left Pennsylvania.
Thank you for sharing! Only 7 miles south of Fallingwater is the FLW-designed Kentuck Knob. He designed it for the Hagans of Hagan Ice Cream fame. Hagan's dairy provided the ice cream for Kaufman's restaurant in his Pittsburgh store. You could have seen this stunning home, also.
Amazing how to move a house! Thank you for sharing, someday I'd love to visit these landmarks in architecture 🥳
It’s amazing this was 1930s and 50s… truly a beautiful mind
When I went some years ago, they offered an 'in-depth' tour early in the morning before regular tours started. It was well worth it. I recall you got to take indoor pictures on the in depth tour, which they did not allow on regular tour.

I old nabbor had a home like frank Lloyd wright..style. Not built by wright..but many Sim...he study under weight in Wisconsin..I loved the home..it's been gone for 15 yrs now..sad if I bought it ..I would enjoy it today..the land was all bout the doe..outside of chicago.area late 1990s..it was a nice stone built home..flat roof lines lots of glass ..ty for this video..
About 4 weeks ago we visited polymath falling Waters and Kentucky knob a fantastic weekend.
Thanks for the education. I thought I knew a lot about FLW but this video humbled me. Falling water definitely was FLW and it is a shame not to see all the rooms and furnishings because this house was his masterpiece. Duncan House has FLW elements including the exterior flat roof, and some bits of furniture but his characteristic lamps and light fixtures are missing. IMHO The windows and doors are not classical FLW. The Balter House designed by one of his students and thus strictly cannot be counted as FLW. However it bears most of FLW ideas including the central load-bearing part of the house liberating the exterior for full sized glass windows. There is that wonderful FLW-type fireplace and natural stone theme throughout and some built-in furniture. The gorgeous Mantyla House looked much more like FLW than the previous two. I was not aware that his Usonian houses used board and batten until now thanks to you.
Thank you for sharing. Love the video.

@@Bradh1961 My tour guide made it not even sound like a big deal if you did video. The way he worded it, he said he would "wag his finger at you and tell you to stop". He was pretty chill about it. As long as it didn't look like you were filming video, I don't think the tour guides will make a big deal out of it. However, thank you for the video. I got lots of pictures, but nice to look at the video until I visit again.
In my opinion, Falling Water is he most beautiful house in the world, period.

Great video & experience. would have been more impactful without the 'music'....I would have muted the sound but wanted to hear the 'water'
All of his interiors remind me of Boat interiors .... Beautiful and most have aged well!

Interesting and no doubt Wright was a genius. But some of those rooms looked awfully small, almost claustrophobic. I love the large fireplaces though.
Not to be critical...but what was the need for music? It's a retreat in the woods...and it's all about falling water which would have been simple enough.

I would also suggest a gimbel and slower panning transitions when changing views.
You can visit four Frank LLoyd Wright homes on foot in a few hours all on the same block in Milwaukee. They are open for tours in his native Wisconsin
I found it more interesting without the audio. It's amazing how many people think the background music should be so load. I always thought background ment very quiet.

A visit once fully open is worth it, I took a guided tour where the guide knows all the details about the property and can answer questions, and you get an up close look of every room. Pictures while inside aren't allowed, so you either take them outside or get sneaky with your phone 8D
Of course the family couldn't afford Wright in 1964, (The Balter House)...he died in 1959!
why the wretched music
Me & this girl I dated in 2016 went to the caves up there, and after we left I thought let's go and see this house, cause it's right by there.... & upon getting to the turn off the house is on it was completely packed for miles, I'm seirous cars all the way out past the sign that said Fallingwaters if you plan on going here call ahead and make an appointment (they do that) think it's like $20 or somthing, I kno this video makes it look like u can just drive up thats because of covid, but you should definitely call ahead 1st to be safe this place is normally packed, Oh & we didn't get to see the house we were to exhausted from the caves & the wait time was somthing like 2hrs. Maybe I'll take my new girlfriend 👌

Cinder block & textile blocks were very common for Usonian homes. It was one way to lower the cost of building the homes.
I had to turn the volume down, your music is annoying. but great video.
Wright did not design all the furniture of Fallingwater
lovely home...but far too close to forest bullies...bugs..snakes...big foot
The interior decoration is confused.
I really enjoyed the tour and details. It was only marred by seeing people wearing masks which reminds one of bad times and the horrible psychological hoodwinking the controllers inflicted on the people - thinking they need masks outside. So ridiculous and demeaning of intelligence. If you live close enough consideer going back to make a mask free video. FLW was about freedom and individualism!
Started watching this and then awful loud jarring music completely ruined the whole thing-Switched it off
House designs 👍 Music 👎
Irritating music.
You must have searched high and low for this asinine music.
And your friends stayed in your way the whole time… disappointing
Completely irrelevant music. And please don’t give me the copyright excuse: go outside, record wind in the leaves, a quiet water stream, birds singing, even good old silence will do better. At 10:10, where did you get this ‘’fact’’ that FLW would be too expensive!? He died in April 1959, six years before construction. At 15:32, how could you - I MEAN HOW COULD YOU!? - film a cleaning ladies behind while she was cleaning the bathtub!? Why - I MEAN WHY!? - didn’t you edit this out!?
