Saudi Mega-project NEOM Chases Chinese Funds | Vantage with Palki Sharma

Saudi Mega-project NEOM Chases Chinese Funds | Vantage with Palki Sharma
First announced in 2017, NEOM is a futuristic Saudi megacity being built in the middle of the desert. It is a part of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman's bid to diversify the Gulf state's oil-dependent economy. But since its announcement, NEOM has raised eyebrows as architects, economists and investors have questioned its feasibility and costs. So, Riyadh is now courting investors from across the world. The roadshow for NEOM travelled from Beijing to Shanghai to Hong Kong, chasing Chinese funds, amid speculation about the scope of the project and its finances. But will it be enough for NEOM to take off? Palki Sharma tells you.

Saudi economy is very predictable just follow the price of oil and anything above 60 dollars per barrel is very lucrative. Currently it has been in the 80s since 2021 However the reason Saudi slowed down is insufficient foreign invest . It is part of the vision 2030 to attract foreign investment not only because of the money but the expertise and leverage it can bring ! One reason dubai for instance is very successful is that foreign investors have a stake in its economy, in other words they are working for Dubai's success. And Chinese economy is actually recovering from that. And tho the period of massive rapid growth may never resume, China will probably maintain 4-5% annual growth. Cost per m2: 500.000.000.000/(170000*100*(500/3,5))=€ 205,88. That is far too low to build the line Cost per inhabitant: 500.000.000.000/9.000.000=€ 55.555. That is not enough to build a house/appartment. Let alone hospitals, offices, transportation etc. Conclusion: The Line will cost at least several trillion.
