@jamesmaseobrown "Front and Center here"...well said and very true. No matter how poorly White America treated black performers of her generation, there could never be any denying Sarah Vaughan's luminous and singular talent.

As a fellow singer, I'm so glad there are such examples like the one and only Sarah Vaughan to offer some tips on how to truly put out great vocals. Thank you for the music Sassy.

I got it from a DVD titled "Sarah Vaughan & other jazz Divas." I purchased it on Amazon. I read somewhere that she didn't really care for these types of songs. However, she does such a damn good job of it.

Outstanding singer. One of my major influences together with Ella.

''S Wonderful'. My all-time favorite great American songbook standard (written by George and Ira Gershwin). I think Sassy sang my favorite version.

@avesraggiana I don't think so cause I've noticed the same thing. It's just the times she grew up in. I don't think I was even born when this was done. It just goes to show you how good she was to be one of the few blacks to be showcased in this manner. She may have entered thru the servants entrance, but she's front and center here.

Translation, thanks to google translate (I'm sure the actual comment is much more eloquent): The younger face expression is cute, too ~ Of course the song is nice!

Where does this clip come from? Regardless of whether "Esperience Unnecesary" is someone's favorite song, Sarah hated this kind of material and only recorded and performed it for cantractual reasons. She was the jazz musician par excelence.

I can't help but notice that her "back-up dancers" are all white...how odd it looks now. And I'm willing to hazard that this video was shot during the Eisenhower era, a time when black performers had to enter through the service entrance even if they were giving a command performance at the White House. Sarah Vaughan would have to wait until the Johnson administration before being able to enter through the front doors of the White House, to give a command performance. Sorry, did I digress?
