Thank you for the helpful review, really interested in getting a feel for the arc of empowerment you described. Btw, what do you mean by "dubiously styled sandworms"? Their style is an overt homage to the bugs in Studio Ghibli's Nausicaa of the valley of the wind. The faulty translation to "worms" doesn't help, I give you that

You’re very welcome, and exactly what I said in that they aren’t particularly worm-y with their eyes and fuzziness. They look more like sand spiders than anything to me. In other news, just watched Nausicaa for the first time a couple of months ago, fabulous!

I've dismissed this one because Pick up and Deliver is my least favourite mechanism. I find it so dry unless there is a unique twist on it. The only two games in my collection that have it is Terror Below (because of the theme) and Maglev Metro, which I'm thinking of getting rid of, because it's too focused on the Pick up and Deliver aspect. But hearing you talk about Sand, I'll definitely see if I can find a way to try this one out.

Yeah, it’s never been one of my favorite genres but this one, for lack of a better term, feels like pick up & deliver by way of Dungeon Crawl? It’s certainly no dungeon crawl game, but the trappings are all level ups and tactical sequencing and maintaining stamina. I’m not saying you’ll love it, it’s at its core very much pick up and deliver, but I definitely think it’s worth trying if you get to a convention or have it at a local lending library.
