I saw this at a sold out premiere last year at TIFF that most people were going to only because they missed The Whale (including me). It completely blew me away and I’ve been waiting for someone, ANYONE to give it the recognition it deserves, so thank you for this one, Chris 👌

One of favourite chamber pieces and a very underrated movie is Locke. It's just one guy(Tom Hardy) in a car. That's it. It's a great showcase of Tom's acting ability and an incredible character study of a simple family man still haunted by demons from his past.

This movie felt personal to me. This was the first time I've seen a compelling femdom relationship on the big screen, and it hit every note for me. I especially loved Rebecca's fun chaotic energy, and Hal's struggle to accept his nature. It kept me guessing at every turn and still managed to strike a profound emotional chord at the end.

One of my favorite and waaaaaaaaaaaaaay underappreciated "in a box" films is Under Suspicion (2000). It's basically Gene Hackman Vs Morgan Freeman with MF getting an assist from Thomas Jane. This film doesn't break any new ground and some of the editing can be a bit tedious, but if you're a fan of GH/MF it definitely deserves a watch. Nowhere near their best work, but this was at a time when even their decent work was/is better than most.

My favourite chamber piece is "Death and the Maiden" with Sigourney Weaver and Ben Kingsley. It is so full of great acting and a really captivating story. Paulina Escobar (Sigourney Weaver) is convinced that the guest (Ben Kingsley) her lawyer husband (Stuart Wilson) brings home is the same man who who kidnapped, tortured and raped her years ago. Holding him captive at gunpoint, she repeatedly attacks him and demands that he confess his crime. Her husband tries to stand by his wife and her claims, but he begins to doubt her story and the claims. She forces her husband to represent the guest in a mock trial that she devises. It is really a rollercoaster of a movie that I suggest everyone watch once. Please Chris, if you read this comment and want a really well written movie watch this.

I never hear anything about her that has to do with anything other than her latest role, which is awesome! I don’t know if the horror film Last Shift counts as a chamber piece, but I really prefer if over its recent remake, Malum. Last Shift just had such a claustrophobic and tense atmosphere compared to its remake that had a bigger budget and was able to expand the world and show the outside more.

Best movie I've seen in 30 years. Thanks so much for your observations. They align with mine exactly. Margaret Qualley gives one of the great performances in movie history. The directng, writing, and ending are perfection. Masterpiece.

I had to drive 20 minutes to the north end of town to see it, but I’m so glad I did. Margaret Qualley’s performance is going to stick with me for the rest of the year. She’s so darn good in this.

I’ve never heard them called chamber pieces, I always thought of them as ‘bottle films’… whelp, you learn something new every day

Chris, since you're going through chamber pieces, I recommend Trapped (2016 Indian film).

Chris , what did you think of Nefarious? I'd call that a chamber piece. Shawn Patrick flannery did a fantastic job in that movie.

They stand out from other movies b/c it's more personal and more focus by default. It almost feels like a real life experience since you basically see every moment of the story

Chris, great review. It makes me want to watch a movie that was a hard-pass from me from watching the preview. I'm surprised however, that you are surprised that this is a chamber piece-film, as the preview made it clear to me that they're in this one room the whole time. That's a nit of a complaint from me, because, sir: you're reviewing with heart, passion, and love. Keep up the good work!

Hi Chris! Your Channel is really cool! I saw Indy 5...and for some reason I didn't like the fact that we didn't see the paramount logo overlaying with a scene of the movie. When I saw the Disney logo, then Paramount and then Lucas-film logo transition to the movie, I kind of felt that something was off. Overall, you can feel that Steven Spielberg direction was not there. Thanks man!
