By any chance was is for a mac? I just got a 2012 macbook pro (good condition) I'm sticking 16gb ram in there. Also wandering whether the Crucial mx500 is good enough to run Logic proX or if I really should go for something more expensive like Samsung pro?

The drives are the same, but are they different when u copy large files, over 80-150 GB. Most users dont do this but i would like a test on files over 80gb.

really late but if u turn on rapid mode in samsung magician it will use just a little bit of your ram and your read and write speeds will go really high, which is probably why samsung evo 860 evo is quite more expensive than the mx500

You're still pretty much limited by the transfer rate across the SATA connector though.

most important factor miss out in this video is this : ssd endurance (TBW): mx500 1tb = 360TB , 860 evo 1tb = 600TB

I'd recommend the seagate barracuda, 250gb (120 tbw) so it's in the middle of these 2 but it's faster than the crucial but not as good as the evo, price is great too.

I've just put in a crucial mx500 in the mac, but when i go to erase and reformat it i cannot choose APFS format, only extended journal. On top of that i'm stuck using MacOS Lion (10.7.5) and I cannot update to a later software.. any ideas?

Would it be more worth to buy the crucial mx500 with 500gb or the samsung 860 evo with just 250gb the difference from the price would be 9€?

VNAND Storage operates differently on different brands, as they have their own tailored forms of how they store stuff. In my opinion, durability is on samsung's side, as it provides greater resistance to being damaged by writing heavily to it.

@@luqmannulhakimkamarulzaman5543 hey! TBW means "terabyte written" and the endurance of the ssd depend from this number. Higher TBW is better because this means that you can write more file than a lower one. I hope this is clear and sorry for my bad English, I'm Italian

Basically the same but MX500 is much better value and worse looking shell, but that doesn't matter as for most people they will have it behind the mobo tray.

Leo Picard , I have exactly the same set up a mid 2012 MacBook Pro I also installed 16 gb of ram .. I’m upgrading to Crucial MX500 1TB as well and will be running Logic Pro X & X-Air digital mixer at the same times and also planning to run SampleTank 4 conjunction with logic .. will let you know how it performs in a month or so or please share your experience if already done so..

Although he's quite the tech geek so he's now talking about upgrading to 2 SSD's and have them both running simultaneously. Do you reckon that'll just be overkill? Reading speed the mx500 beats the 860 evo anytime .... But writing large quantity files like a 100gb file .... The 860 is by far the better option ..... Either way both drives are similar ... But I stick with crucial ....

If you rely on these data, you will be screwed. I bought 850 Evo 120 GB in 2016 for my laptop and Crucial mx100 250gb in 2014 for my desktop. According to data as appears in this video, and according to benchmark websites, my Samsung is much much better. But according to my use and my experience, Samsung was much much worse than Crucial. It was much slower. So don`t rely on these data. Read users experience only!!! I used them on pretty much similar hardwares.

In this case MX500 wins, per example 860 EVO 500 gb has 300 TBW and Crucial MX500 1 Tb has 360 TBW and both are at the same price at this moment; therefore, more space, and more TBW for crucial for the same price.

@@carriagel8773 You cannot compare 1 tb to 1 tb if the price has a massive difference. The competitor to MX500 1 TB is 860 Evo 500 GB. If I follow your logic, I can compare a Mustang V8 vs Ferrari 488 GTB, because both have V8 engine; that is stupid (as the same as compare MX500 1 TB to EVO 860 1 Tb when the price has a massive difference).

@@tonysoad05 Really? The price is very similar now.. I bought 1tb evo today for 94 euro on amazon.de.. 3 months ago I paid 91 euro for 1tb mx 500.. I've checked my local shop.. MX500 - 110euro, EVO 860 - 126 euro.. so it's only 10% diffrence, do you really think it is a massive difference?

Actually evo 860 holds a 3bit MLC memory that in other words is the same as a TLC memory, mx500 holds a 3d nand memory that is equal or slightly superior than 3bit MLC.

They are effectively the same Drive speed wise, only samsung pro or nvme ssd are faster

TL;DW, Samsung beat Crucial in practically all of the tests.
