Currently in China... When Iphones first came out they were seen as a luxury good and people were showing them off. Phone cases would have a cut out so people could see the Apple logo and there were plenty of copy-cats. I was a huge Android fan until I moved to China. Partly because of the "great firewall" Android was not a good option. I had a Xiaomi phone as well, but the hardware just didn't last. I just bought an Iphone 13 yesterday and the customer support in China is really good. (Also there are plenty of repair shops that can fix Apple product more easily)

This is VERY WRONG. Androids users in China practically never experienced Google play services before. There is NO WAY there would make consumer choice based on the lack of Google services in preference over Apple. They simply do not have frame of reference on that one. Obviously, you wouldn’t know that cuz you are not Chinese. You are speaking as a non-Chinese living in China who had experiences with Google Play and related services before.

Samsung betrayed everything that made them a fan favorite in the first place, the point of an Android back on 2011 was that you could do basically everything with your phone, removable battery, SD card, headphone jack, OLED screen, now a days there are little difference between an iphone and a Galaxy S, and as people see iOS as a superior os they just like it more

Samsungs one ui runs circles around ios Samsung has infintiyly more features freedom and customization eg Apple copying widgets yet making them worse. Samsung has better battery optimization, faster charging, reverse wireless charging better zoom and overall better camera experience, better display, way more features eg dex pc to desktop coding pasting etc meanwhile ios doesn't even have basic features like desktop folder system, split screen multitasking, ability to close all apps at once, ability to place apps wherever you want without having to be beside another app. I could go on and on

As a Chinese, I can tell you clearly that before NOTE7, my whole family used Samsung, and many people also use it outside. Samsung will perish because of the Note7 battery explosion, Samsung recalled worldwide (except China), on the grounds that the Chinese version does not use the same battery, it will not explode, it does sound very reasonable. But it turns out that most airlines and transports in China, prohibit the carrying of NOTE7 (regardless of which country's version). Then Samsung went downhill immediately, because both the note7 and Samsung fans would persuade people around them not to buy Samsung, and at that time Chinese brands themselves were on the rise (Huawei, Xiaomi, etc.), and finally Huawei, Xiaomi didn't need to work too hard , to get Samsung's market share.(To put it simply, except for Apple, other smartphones are not irreplaceable) As for political issues, it is true that in China, many companies are easily influenced by politics, but Apple will rise, the main reason is that Apple's own products are excellent, such as complete and fast after-sales service and product ecosystem. Otherwise Apple wouldn't be globally popular (or did Apple give money to governments around the world?)

Most Android players are Chinese. How's current Australian media paint China? I think anyone who watches Australian news cannot avoid got brainwashed, if you check ozbargain, you can easily spot anti-china comments on every Chinese phone deals. Like they are cheaper than Samsung they must put some sort of untold secret espionage thing inside the phone to track every Australian and the result is obvious, people tend to not buy Chinese phones. Samsung phones generally are not decent IMO, mediocre at best, Nokia phones don't feel Scandinavian at all and they are worse, Google basically treats Pixel as device that demonstrates latest technology, and they are pricey and looks boring. Sony quit. So only Apple.

Huawei sells their phone cheaper in Australia than they are in China offers more for less cost, like give Sonos or GT Watch or Huawei photo portable printer or discount with gift card through Telstra at JB hi-fi as bonus, Huawei is the only Chinese mobile company spent a lot on marketing in Australia, but when people see Huawei's ad they immediately think it's CCP propaganda, thus I never saw a white person using Huawei phone, least in WA, all Huawei users I spotted are Asian and presumably Chinese. I guess Huawei already proved what's so called wasting money to other Chinese players. Xiaomi's strategy seems spent almost none of marketing, but actually they do a lot, that's one of the misconception, they just using different approach and works well in countries like India and China, for Australia, the market is too small to care, and outright pricing of Xiaomi in Australia is terrible, Xiaomi doesn't even bother sign up with any carriers. By the way, all Telstra branded mobile phone actually is OEM by ZTE.
