    Actually the only way they got him to do it was to tell him Frank Sinatra had had a pretty good hit singing a song with kids. If it was one thing Sammie loved it was to emulate Frank Sinatra. This time it really paid off,

    On this day in 1972 {March 5th} "Candy Man" by Sammy Davis, Jr entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart at position #97; and on June 4th it peaked at #1 {for 3 weeks} and spent 21 weeks on the Top 100 {and for 7 of those 21 weeks it was on the Top 10}... It also reached #2 {for 1 week} on Billboard's R&B Singles chart... And on May 14th, 1972 it also reached #1 {for 2 weeks} on Billboard's Adult Contemporary Tracks chart... Back-up vocals were provided by the Mike Curb Congregation {the year before they peaked at #34 with the song "Burning Bridge" from the film 'Kelly's Heroes'}... R.I.P. Mr. Davis {1925 - 1990}...

    A #1 hit for Sammy Davis, Jr. in June 1972. It also hit #1 on the Adult Contemporary charts and on the Cashbox charts. It went to #2 in Canada and to #3 in Australia and on the Canadian AC charts.

    There was 10 people on this Earth who had absolutely NO Talent because when God made Sammy he took all their talent and put it into him to complete what we see when we watch Sammy perform for us. What a very special entertainer that rose above all others. We miss you Sammy~RIP Brother!

    He was the man!! Beautiful performer! The best I ever have seen. I worked 40 years at a venue which had multiple artist. Even saw Elvis. They were performers!! Nothing like today!!

    My dad turned my on to Sammy D. I miss them both but with this song i can go back in TIME yes i can!! I just close my eyes and my dad is right there next to me eating pizza at pizza Roma in Wayne NJ.

    I have taught my now 14 year old son about Mr. Davis! He did a project on him also. It is wonderful to have children interested in music. You all are really into music when you reach back to the classics. Makes me feel good! Wish you all much success!

    I loved Sammy, what a wonderful friend. He and the rest of the boys were always good to me and their fans. Oh, how the world misses all those songs they used to sing. I sang once with Sammy, and now, carry on myself. Thanks fella's for trusting a kid (back then) to carry on. James, Screen Actors Guild, Singers' Guild.

    Music today WILL NEVER live up to the Music of Yesteryear.This was when singer's sang and did not use teleprompters or auto tune.Music was real and from the heart.Sammy you and the Rat Pack were Music Thanks for the music and the memories.Wish you guys were still here to teach these so called singers how music is supposed to sound like.

    Oh how the years are Fleeting! I was about 16 years old when this classic hit the list. One of my favorites.     I got to meet Sammy in late 70's in Vail, Co. He was very friendly and of course funny! I got his autograph but had lost it by the end of the day. What can I say, I was just a kid. I have this song on a n old 45!

    To markflem and all viewer's, I would like to take the video clip to honor and dedicate it to my Dad of whom passed away from pneumonia b / lung cancer early saturday morning. He way quite a guy and apparently a huge achiever too! Philllip Slmm October 16th, 1932 - January 18th, 2014. I will truly miss him very much! ;-)

    This was always such a fun song...and Sammy Davis was the one who could do this song justice.... I am so glad to have found this on You Tube....I love it and I want to hear music like this all of the time. And we can listen to some real music not some soleless computer generated/voice modified to sound good because they cannot sing themselves out of a cardboard box now days....
