I find it incredible that I’ve only been exposed to this type of thinking for the last few years. It’s a major crime that we weren’t taught this stuff when we were 10 years old.

The reason we were not exposed to useful patterns of thinking at ten years old is, for most people of my generation, because we were being taught useless goddamned Bible stories, which masqueraded as Moral Instruction. But hey, I'm not bitter or anything (happy humming sound).

Most of this stuff wasn't even common knowledge, up until a few years ago. And they don't teach meditation in schools, because some people might think, that it's the tool of the Devil, and it has nothing to do with Christianity. Though in reality, nothing could be further from the truth.

@@Mr.Jasaw13 You're doing exactly what he talks about. The story you're telling yourself is a sad, and masochistic story. Our universe says *so* much more to us that we haven't even begun to see the tip of the iceberg beyond the horizon. Times infinity. I thought my life was and has been a tragedy of long, horrible, sad, and extremely depressing times, that I have tried suicide plenty of times a few of them should have killed a herd of elephants, and fun stuff like that.. but I have also experienced very short, few, and relatively far between glimpses of Love and true happiness, and more. Those things are definitely meaningful (to me, obviously, but that's all it takes) - so striving for "all conscious beings being in their most wonderful (beyond real words like that) state" is a very meaningful goal. We may or may not get to experience it, but the possibility itself has meaning. If you've never felt anything like that, I feel extreme remorse for you.

I'm 42 and, until about a year ago, have been depressed and anxious since at least 15. The first step is coming to believe that you have some control over how you feel. The second step is starting the work of changing your inner dialogue. The idea of working on something can be extremely overwhelming if you are depressed, but start with really small changes that don't require much effort. Find a good therapist (not just the first one you come across) that does some sort of CBT, MBSr, etc. Gentle external accountability and emotional support will help you stay on track. Just don't get frustrated and give up! If you get frustrated, it's because you are expecting too much from from yourself and not being grateful/happy about the subtle progress you've made. At some point the more postive inner dialogue becomes a habit and you don't have to work on it much. It's like a shepard watching his flock for wolves. She only has to keep one eye on them.

I instinctively observed everything and everyone my entire life. My parents left me alone with my thoughts and defended me at school when teachers complained about my learning ”disabilities”. I am autistic but 40 years ago, never understood. Perhaps my parents never really knew how to care for me in this undiagnosed sense, but thank the gods. This allowed my mind to reveal itself from within instead of competing constantly at school, which is what all schools are and do, I developed inner senses that are like meditation and third eye vision. I now teach this. Everyone can learn it. My *only* fear in life is for the child that grows up hardened to only know the outside. All children are naturally tuned inwards. It is the conditioned man that tries to condition a child.

I can attest to the fact that mindfulness helps with public speaking anxiety. Though i didn't even medidate. You just need to learn to kind of acknowledge your anxiety without trying to make it go away or wanting to flee from it and without considering it as a bad or shameful thing, because the want to flee from it is what then makes it worse and uncontrollable instead of when you simply accept it.

My experience has been different (not to say better). Practising meditation (a form of Vapasanna the same as Sam) has shown that I in fact cannot change my thoughts contrary to as you describe, they manifest much the same way as dreams, I don't manufacture them, they come of their own accord into my conscious stream. thoughts are purely transient, impermanent, they come to be and then pass, over and over, and meditation gets you to the a position of mind where you can remain detached from those thoughts, you can just observe them and then return to the object of meditation (the breath when starting out). This then gets you to the point that you can just be. You don't need to be thinking positive or not having any negative thoughts, as your thoughts have no influence or power over your emotions (should you choose that way in any given moment). "With strong mindfulness we can experience a deep sense in which self-loathing and romantic thoughts are the same: like all other thoughts, these are passing moments of mind.." - The Science of Meditation.

The Cure to that is you you don't always have to be nice, sometimes and really all the time, you need to look after yourself. If you can be nice to do that great! Go for it but if nice is not working switch gears. If there is a word I'd recommend you it's be assertive when necessary and that'll solve that "person" problem.

No need to think better thoughts, positive thoughts to psych yourself up. Instead of being identified with thoughts (immersed in thought) be a watcher of thoughts; that's your true self. In a level of watcher there are no problems; thoughts create problems. Even if you try to create better thoughts like "at least I don't have a cancer", you're still operating on a level of thoughts and in a mercy of ever changing thoughts. You are not your thoughts, thoughts happen in you. You are bigger than your thoughts, you are the space where thoughts come and go. Be a watcher of thoughts, like clouds drifting by.

Taught for centuries by spiritual masters but unfortunately manipulated by those who wanted to establish a source outside yourself as the answer, hence creating dependency on a higher authority that requires worship, following, obedience, etc, etc. The treasure is within, it has always been, devoid of the past and speculation about the future. At what point then did driving a car, flying on airplanes, taking boat rides, climbing up tall ladders, using computers, watching tv or cinema become normal? This is not a case of normal vs not normal or what humanity used to do some eons ago. There are people who like public speaking and they do it and theres people who dont like it (fear, anxiety etc) and they still do it. The people who dont like it, by doing it, they are facing their fears which slowly mitigates their fear response from their bodies. We all have fears and different scenarios that scare us and not seem that normal to us. And just for the record youre right about life being more complex now compared to what it used ti be but if you do not adapt (adapt in this case means developing crucial skills that better mitigate and regulate emotional pain in your life) then you will perish (with perish i mean having a very hard emotional experience-life).

Lives were a lot more simple, short and filled with much more material suffering (sickness, injury, death, etc.). Also, at some point people didn't know how to write. We'd all be pretty smart compared to people throughout evolution so, who is to say that we are not just evolving through an awkward stage? Maybe the way through it is simply through mindfulness.

When you are microdosed and you feel a sense of anxiety come over you. You notice how it’s there but it doesn’t interfere with your homeostasis. It becomes a secondary feeling in a list of other feelings that you are experiencing. So for example, I can be at a maximum state of comfort, relaxation and even euphoria, yet I’m anxious about something, that isn’t bothering me. You realize that it’s there, but it’s not in control. It’s like a crying baby, you can tune it out at some point. Furthermore, the feelings of joy and positivity take control and anxiety is simply in the background, doing its thing, but effecting nothing.

Sam also believes free will is an illusion --does that mean the choice to implement such wisdom isn’t a choice its happenstance! Destiny perhaps! What to do if you aren’t able to change? It seems collectively many are awakening to a more joyful way of being through adopting a healthier diet, meditating etc! Some are unable to see the wisdom of, some agree but are unable to make the changes through no fault of their own? Interesting. What if the world view is shifting and it’s like dominos falling? The less depressed individuals become that collective positive energy affects everyone!? I’ve been seriously clinically depressed! I still battle the tendency, but I’m not now! The first step is accepting what is......with a tiny glimmer of hope the situation will improve! It can and it will.

Zyan Z problem is Free will is what every human possesses as a human. There is no such thing as installed free will Your personal thoughts are your free will. Unfortunately it’s been deluded by an unknown power that floats around? Like the rest of the religions. Religion was a guideline and a judicial system for kings to rule Also a self made thought to rule, Bettered the odds of survival. But that is the dark ages I think humans can grow up and put pretend happiness aside and start believing in yourself as a human

I achieve my goals by doing the ridiculous, but just dropping what I am doing and doing my goals, and not carrying about the anxiety of people thinking it's crazy that I do that. I had an x who had an amazing body because he did what I do now. I will be talking to people and just busy out and do squats and crunches. My body looks so much better now. 😊
