Well, maybe it was more of a medieval inspired event than an actual, strictly historically correct, medieval event? Like some Goths, who are inspired by the medieval ages in *some* parts of their dresses... They don´t actually dress mediaeval, just like most people inspired by mediaeval look in fantasy dressing/ cosplay don´t go all the way mediaeval eather.

People of the Middle Ages were no different from us. They lived, loved, worked, celebrated life. It wasn't easy but they did the best they could with what they knew. We cannot bash them 300, 400, 600 years llater and judge them by our standards. They may find us odd or uncouth. I enjoy these videos and history to get a tiny glimpse of their lives. The Saltarello has always been primarily improvised; this particular version was invented in the modern era (1990s). The clothing is also not historically accurate, it is more of a mashup of medieval-inspired look. LOL. All of this is modern.

What i find interesting is that in most of the paintings of the Saltarello the dancers seldom touch and seem to rather do their own thing. With a lot more turning around ones own axis involved. The peasants probably didnt follow choreographys which made the dance more lively.

The Saltarello is still danced by current Italian peasant folk but it is usualky to accordeons and tambourins and it is not as refined as this more regal form of this ancient dance.

Baltic states , Lithuania, the dance itself comes from medieval Italy : "The saltarello is a musical dance form originally from Italy. I's named for its peculiar leaping step, after the Italian verb saltare ("to jump"). Today there are still saltarelli played by folk bands in central Italy with the harmony and zampogna."

@@truthbetold5339 Just came across this. No -- the *music* is Renaissance Italian, but the *dance* is an entirely modern invention, loosely based on period imagery. The original article describing the invention can be found at www.pbm.com/~lindahl/lod/vol1/regina.html (I was the editor/publisher.)
