No joke back in 2003 me and a couple classmates tried to do a medieval dance at homecoming to “Get Low” by Lil’ John. We nailed the dance (not quite a Saltarello lol) but our costume left a little to be desired; we were wearing Fubu jeans and K-Swiss sneakers looool

Well, maybe it was more of a medieval inspired event than an actual, strictly historically correct, medieval event? Like some Goths, who are inspired by the medieval ages in *some* parts of their dresses... They don´t actually dress mediaeval, just like most people inspired by mediaeval look in fantasy dressing/ cosplay don´t go all the way mediaeval eather.

People of the Middle Ages were no different from us. They lived, loved, worked, celebrated life. It wasn't easy but they did the best they could with what they knew. We cannot bash them 300, 400, 600 years llater and judge them by our standards. They may find us odd or uncouth. I enjoy these videos and history to get a tiny glimpse of their lives. I think this is a lovely video and I love her outfit. Elegant and beautiful. Thank you for sharing this. ❤

"The saltarello is a musical dance form originally from Italy. I's named for its peculiar leaping step, after the Italian verb saltare ("to jump"). Today there are still saltarelli played by folk bands in central Italy with the harmony and zampogna." According to Michele Abate.

What i find interesting is that in most of the paintings of the Saltarello the dancers seldom touch and seem to rather do their own thing. With a lot more turning around ones own axis involved. The peasants probably didnt follow choreographys which made the dance more lively.
