Salomon Aaron Feinberg Aggressive Inline Skate // First Impressions

Спорт

Old skates, updated for the present. There's a massive fan base for these old Salomon skates. I wanted to see what all the fuss was about.
These are the Aaron Feinberg model, which were the first UFS boots on the market. I've upgraded them with new shock absorbers and King Souls, along with 50/50 Balance Frames.

yeah, top buckle needs to be cranked up for sure. the fast lacing system is really great, something i'd like to see on modern skates for sure.

I skated Day and Night on Salomons around 98-99 had the first run of the St8's. Very precision, light, comfortable skate. I remember putting each skate on and clicking the buckle 4 clicks on each side, locking and skating in about 8 seconds. the laces you can just pull up and click to lock, so I just kept them locked in place and had a small black sneaker tongue under the laces to put some pressure on the top of the foot. We all had sneaker tongues in our skates then. The cuff isnt free like other skates, it is locked at the back and the bolts have a grove where it moves up and down, so the skate kind of pulls back slightly when you push off, they called it the energizer cuff. Right around that time, everyone I skated with had Salomons. Its cool they kept that boot mold and just changed the colors, they never made any other aggressive boot mold, which I dont think any other aggessive skate company made only one boot mold design and then left the market. I bought a used paid of the brown St8 around 2009 with some new Brandon Campbell liners they used to sell on rollerwarehouse. They were one of the better skates in the late 90's 2000s but I agree there are alot of good skates on the market and arent really that superior in my opinion. No one really made heat molding liners that I know of at that time, and Solomon being a ski company already knew the exact formula for a good heat molding liner and that was what really made the skates special. They were more comfortable than a pair of sneakers once the liners are broken in.

I have some shaved ST60’s with Adapt souls or you can modify a USD carbon or 7s soul. I rode them for awhile with GC FLT 3’s & Trust liners at the time. I found the skates stock complete at a Goodwill for $9.99 at the time years ago so I had to snag them. I wish I still had my original ST 8s.. they unfortunately got lost in a move sometime around 2013 ish. Crazy I have an old photo from when I got them new in 1999.. my grandma had taken me to Play it again sports & since rollerblading was so popular at the time they had a really great selection of new skates. I remember looking at all the new models & I had to have the ST 8s.. tried them on & fell in love. The photo I have must be shortly after I had got home, I’m sitting on the end of the couch ottoman, fresh skates laying on the carpet & I’m on the phone talking to my close buddy telling him about my skates because I was hyped to skate with them & they all had newest K2s & USD thrones or Roces. I was wearing baggy as hell JNCO jeans & I believe a JNCO sweatshirt. Damn those were the days for sure! Wish I still had those boots

I had the non UFS ST8's, they where the bomb... I got used to the front lean position so bad that I put the salomon shock absorbers in my Psirus too... but you are right about the desintegrating part. Thx for the tip on the razors shock absorbers. This will come in handy for my current REMZ HR 2.0, even with the low heel risers in them it feels like they are too much lean back for me.

I have the same Sals and do think they’d be a great skate to bring back to market because other than the excessive heel rise (which is amazing on gaps tho), it’s such a great boot ergonomically. Both the shell and the liner fit so well with zero pressure points, and basically no break in period from what I recall. The materials used are also insanely durable. I skated mostly concrete ledges directly on the boot (no soul plate) and they just never seem to wear through). I will say the biggest issue with the heel rise is how far it puts your heel away from the ledge on topsides (just not natural for muscle memory, this is where no-rise skates like fattys are amazing - for topsides) and for backside royales (there’s all this extra distance between your heel and back wheels up on the ledge). I mean you can definitely get used to it, I instead then for years, but it does feel like high heels. PS. Funny how squeaky that pair is. Mine didn’t do that but maybe they do now, it’s been awhile since I set them up.

These were my favorites next to st7's and st8's then the st.Aaron feinburgs witch were just a customized st80 And I love every model they're all Is better than any other aggressive inline skate at the time the other one giving it a run for its money was K2 and All the real goods skaters used salomons Solomon also put out a pair of soap shoes that had a grinding pad like the soaps did but they had another kinda like a sole plate but none of the plates where changeable witch lead to not many people wearing them but regardless of how it works they still looked better than the soaps did even though the soaps were really comfortable

So few people now will understand why that was so nice. Fattys were the epitome of this but torques wouldn’t work. It does feel so nice and so much more natural being closer to the ledge. I’m guessing Aeons have some of that going on but it’s still a much wider skate.

Wow, these are what I had back in maybe 2004? I think the "cool" or best ones at the time were Shima's? Man, I miss those days with my friends. No drugs, just skating around our nearby apartment complex retail shops and finding spots. Skating to one another's houses and just going out. If it was too hot, go inside and play Counter-Strike off of Road Runner cable internet and download music off of Napster.

It’s funny how different personal prefs can be (and some of it might be foot shape/size/height). I own the exact same Sals (but with stock souls in other words basically no soul plate) and never touch the laces and barely buckle them (it’s not a long buckle) and would still say they’re the most supportive skates I’ve had ever probably. But on a similar note, where you (Law) are super comfy on Adapts (makes sense, you like support), I felt super constricted when in tried them on. I *want* my feet/ankles to be able to flex when skating and adapts felt like I had bricks on every side of my ankle zip tied on, ha. Like I said just different personal prefs. Similarly, my Factions arrive tomorrow and I’m imagining I’ll like the squishy liner as USD carbons drove me nuts how they had no give/buffer (liners hard as a rock so the thickness became a moot point).

I had over 10 pairs go through my hands in the past few years, and skated 4 pairs personally. I haven't had a pair that squeaked that bad. Some liners can squeak a bit tho, the cuff doesn't move a lot when you flex forward.

Hey Patreon is undergoing serious Litigation that is more then likely going to bankrupt the organization Which could cause you to lose whatever money you have tied up with that company. I suggest finding an alternative donation platform Before the hammer comes down and they go bankrupt later this year.

As great as salmons were, I really wish people would stop skating them. We should be supporting the companies that stuck by us and not ones who abandoned us.

For sure. I didn’t see the huge advantage over current skates. Get yourself some SL or find some VII

@@BacktoBlading For somebody like me, who stopped skating and looking at skating stuff around 2001 (still love my Salomon ST8s), you're referring to the Razors SL and USD VII?
