Safe Routine for Underwater Breath Holding and Seeking

In this video, you will see our swimmer who loves to go underwater and drink the water. Watch as we create a safe routine for underwater.
3 water safety adaptive tips for underwater breath holding and seeking:
1- A structured underwater activity:
The deep pressure of the water can help regulate and calm your swimmer as it releases dopamine. Allowing the swimmer to go underwater in a structured and supervised activity, such as deep bobs, is essential for safety.
2- Swimming on back:
Rolling the swimmer onto their back in between activities/during transitions will prevent the swimmer from submerging or continuing to drink the water.
3- Listen to your swimmer:
Your swimmer may show or tell you that they require more of the underwater activity. Listening to the swimmer will create trust as well as safe underwater routines for water experiences that do not allow excessive drinking or prolonged underwater breath-holding. *Always be sure to intervene when necessary.

It is extremely important to discuss with the parent regarding this if they swim outside of lessons. Extreme breath holding can lead to shallow water hypoxia due to the build of Co2 in the body.
