Today on The Ranveer Show, we welcome Dr. Samir Parikh. He is a consultant psychiatrist and the Director of the Department of Mental Health and Behavioral Sciences, Fortis Healthcare, with 26 years of expertise. In this podcast, we broke down the topic of mental health at a deeper level.
In this episode, we talked about depression, anxiety, why people feel depressed, and the effect of bullying on a person’s mental health, when you should visit a doctor, why people self-diagnose themselves, and much more. We also discuss ADHD and how it can affect daily life, the impact of bullying on mental health, particularly in the digital age, and the importance of seeking professional help for various mental health conditions.
This was a mental health special episode that, in my opinion, everyone should watch to understand when they should see a doctor and what is the reason behind their prolonged sadness. I hope you will enjoy this conversation and let us know your thoughts in the comments.

My mother was suffering from hearing voices in her mind, depression and anxiety since 2010 but got diagnosed for the first time in 2013 when the condition was critical, in 2014 she lost her husband and became the sole bread earner of the family, we struggled to make ends meet but somehow she kept pushing herself for her kids, during the end of 2019 things became very nasty and she was again diagnosed in 2020 and had to live through it through the pandemic, it was so horrible a situation that only she knows, today is the day after my 19th birthday and I can't cry but say she is again going back down the same spiral of things, she woke me up and said "beta doctor ke le chal chakkar aa rah hai", probably I am most heart broken and feared now in my life, the only thing I wish from god is the good health of my mother, I hope she fights her way out of this, she will. Thanks Ranveer for this episode, I was looking for something that would make me feel empathetic towards my mother.

I have lots of physical problems.Had few surgeries but nothing is as painful and dark as mental illness.Hope nobody ever goes through it.@Ranveer-Thanks for taking this topic. Also this episode was more towards self diagnosing,substance,etc..More towards exploiting mental health terms..It would be good if you can let doctor talk more about us.What a patient goes through, out struggles etc which will help others to understand our problem better. We keep hearing comments like everyone has depression, its all in the mind ,etc which hurts most.

As a fellow psychiatrist, I was very happy to see the podcast. Covered a range of topics from anxiety/depression to adult ADHD and cannabis addiction. These are so relevant to the youth today. You surely understand the pulse of the new generation. Mental health is such a large and often misunderstood field that more such episodes would really help to reduce the barriers/misconceptions in seeking help.

Trust me I consider myself very strong mentally and despite that i struggled every day. Also, I was living in a new city alone and that made it worse. By God's grace, I was able to come out of it, but i would always remember that phase as the darkest phase in my life! 😢

Can't wait to dive in. I know already that this episode is gonna be AMAZING. Dr. Samir Parikh is remarkable at what he does. I was truly lucky I got to attend a workshop conducted by him at Fortis, almost six years back now, in eighth grade and until now, I haven't been able to forget that experience of how he encouraged us to brainstorm and think about doing our bit for the environment. Him talking about the Global Pacific Garbage Patch (GPGP) that day is something that has stuck with me and I'd bet I still even have the carbon footprint activity he engaged the participants in alongside Ms. Divya. Seeing his face on the thumbnail instantly brought all of those memories back. ABSOLUTELY SUPERB TO SEE HIM ON TRS! ❤ ALL THE BIOLOGY PODCASTS ARE MY ABSOLUTE FAVOURITES!

I am so glad that someone is talking about the exact scenario about mental illness , being diagnosed professionally I had faced a lot of hurdles from society and everyone would come and just say ki you are doing it purposefully to gain attention And the main struggle was to face the fear that comes with such diagnosis because there is no authentic information on it .... And facing everything alone because nobody would understand what I was going through ... But I am glad that I am strong , I stood strong and believed on my doctor instead of society , I faced everything and I got my life back This video is definately going to help many people facing this issue who are diagnosed professionally!

After trying for so much of medical treatment for pcods, it couldn't help for longer time instead it got more worsen. As I started changing my lifestyle , my diet , my sleeping pattern and more importantly as i started doing meditation and gratitude morning and evening it helped me so much. I am so much relief and relaxed now. So , i recommend everyone to do deep breathing and gratitude meditation at least for 10-15min each day. It is one of the key medication for upliftment of mental health.❤😊

I have been through all this by myself specially due to weed and exactly all those anxiety patterns. I'm glad I pulled myself out of such a dark phase one step at a time without being dependent on any medication or any significant help from experts while I kept rushing to different doctors trying to identify the problem in an endless manner. I'm proud of myself

Better thumbnail now. Good Job Team!😃👍 edit - I was a bit reluctant yesterday to watch this podcast just 'cause of the thumbnail which was previously used yesterday, (that looked depressing itself lol) , but now it actually reflects some positivity as well guys!! Enjoying watching this podcast now!

This podcast addresses a crucial and timely issue "Mental Health" with great insight. I encourage millions to watch it and become aware of their mental health status, diagnosis methods, and the necessary counseling support. Neglecting these issues can lead to severe health conditions and ultimately, death. To the youth, please recognize symptoms early and seek help for a healthier, happier life. Thank you for this informative podcast. Really loved the way the Biochemistry part of it was explained by the doc. I am particularly interested in learning about the wonder biochemicals : the neurotransmitters which are influencing the mind to think in a certain way. I am a keen learner of clinical psychology and many facets of this interests me to know in depth about how a particular neurotransmitter stimulus generates a behavioral response in human brain 🧠. This subject really fascinates me intensely. Also one of my best friends in college had the same issue since his adolescence, which his parents were unable to identify during his schooling.Hence parents of a child will have to identify these symptoms in their wards from school days itself to ensure the child turns out to be a mentally fit individual. It is important because mentally fit individuals will never go around destroying other human beings.

being from psychology background i feel that this podcast cant be judged psychology is a very vast field and the questions asked by ranveer could have been better i felt that it was all around alchol anxiety cannabis anger. the series of questions could have been better and i found it very awkward that the explanations werent upto the mark because of the questions asked abruptly. thats all my personal opinion.

Me also diagnosed with OCD and depression before 3 yrs....Previously before to that the situation was unnoticed....it was noticed only after marriage...when the factual hammer hitted in my forehead that I'm not able to indulge in sexual act ...in the fullest manner....Then I sought doctor's advice...then started taking medicines for OCD and depression since 2021...eventhough the symptoms get started during my school days itself....Struggled alot to perform in my academics and professional life .....
