White friday was a battle between the austro-hungarian and italian military, both side fired shells at weakened packs of snow to try to bury each other. Soldier of Heaven is from the perspective of one of the soldiers who died during white Friday. He is frozen in time and immortal in the sense that those who find his body will find it perfectly preserved due to the cold of the mountain.

Producers: "This is the most epic song we've ever heard." Sabaton: "It's not epic enough."

Immortal, because like those lost in other high mountain regions, their bodies never thaw enough to degrade. While the battle referred to was just one event, that day saw dozens of avalanches intentionally triggered costing thousands of lives. The battle "officially" titled "White Friday" was an avalanche triggered above a forward outpost burying 270 soldiers. Only 40 bodies were recovered at the time, and I cannot find any news articles talking about the others being repatriated so it is likely that to this day 230 men stand watch on Mount Marmolada in northern Italy, their bodies frozen in time. These men, almost as much as the submariners for whom the tradition was created, should never be forgotten.

I didn't realize and very minorly annoyed I didn't see Joakim punch his knee but still epic, and honestly, when they changed the last time they sang the chorus with the pitch and all, I feel like they did it differently unlike other times.

@A hecker all day believable. Man's been at it for a while. Recall they started Sabaton in 1999.

Such an epic sound and was not expecting the cord change at the end. That made it that much better!

Sabaton don't need jackets for winter setting they're Swedish Pagans kept warm and fuel by mead, ambrosia, and Sabatonium.

They still find bodies up in those mountains to this day, same thing with equipment and big guns. They think that there could be hundreds still buried in the snow and ice.

In the one avalanche, the destruction of an outpost barracks on Mt Marmolada, 270 were lost and recovery at the time were only able to find 40. I would love to know if those were ever found so they could be returned home.

Now once you go to a live Sabaton concert, your entire outlook on life changes and you become a better person, and you’re never the same.

What is it like in Croatia now I was one of the first American Soldiers in, to end the war and investigate and apprehend war criminals. I remember a gray sad ruin. Broken starving people that we tried to help. I fought in Somalia, Haiti, Iraq and Afghanistan as well. I am just wondering if it all made any difference at all.

It gets to you, doesn't it? Music, lyrics. Sabaton delivers, as always. If you want to see more videos check " Primo victoria", "Attero dominatus", "Devil dogs", " 82 all the way" for example.

they think death count was from 2,000 to 10,000 men from both sides even some civilians were killed that day .Also memorial day for them in italy on that day called Saint Lucia. That was not worst avalanche, the worse was in 1970 in Yungay, Yungay Province, Áncash Region, Peru a under water earthquake cause debris avalanche and mudflow down 100 miles destroying several towns or villages the DEATH TOTAL WAS 30,000. But could been HIGH as 66,794 to 70,000 casualties.

Destined to be a rock anthem.

Man, I'm waiting for this album to come out. Both, Christmas Truce and Soldier of Heaven have made me cry, lyrics and videos. I guess this will be one of the best Sabaton's albums ever!

The War To End All Wars Album is my favorite one Sabaton has ever done. I was introduced to Sabaton in December of 2021 with Christmas Truce, and they have become my favorite band. I have been listening to Soldier of Heaven a lot lately because it is such an awesome song.

thats the full story White Friday occurred during the Italian Front of World War I, when an avalanche struck Austro-Hungarian barracks on Mount Marmolada, killing 270 soldiers. Other avalanches the same day struck Italian and other Austro-Hungarian positions, killing hundreds. According to some reports both sides deliberately fired shells into the weakened snowpacks in an attempt to bury the other side. An accurate estimation of the number of casualties from the White Friday avalanches is not available. Historical documents suggest at least 2,000 victims among the soldiers and a few dozens among civilians.[1] The date 13 December, marked Saint Lucia, a commemorative religious holiday practiced by the majority of Italian Catholics. Though the occurrence of avalanches in the Dolomites Mountains took place on a Wednesday in 1916, the term "White Friday" was used to coin the disastrous day.[2]

You sound like you aint that familiar with sabaton. My advise is listen too 2 albums. They will blow your mind. The Art of War and Primo Victoria. Songs like panzerkampf. 40 to 1. Bismark. The Price of a mile. Gallipoli. Ghost division etc. They all pack a punch.. i never liked glory metal until i heard these guys. And i been a metalhead since 86. And i found these guys in 2010. Still the only glory metal i listen too. Im more ronnie james dio. Iron maiden(up til 7th son) old judas priest. Etc. Only metal im really listen to that is after 96 is anathema their silent enigma and alternative 4 albums are so emotional its unbelievable. And if you ever lose someone close then listen too their song deep. No other song express the emotions of parting as well as that song. It soo strong
