Sabaton - Gott Mit Uns (Swedish version with english translation)

Музыка

The score "Gott Mit Uns" (God is with Us) from Sabatons album "Carolus Rex". The song is about the Battle of Breitenfeld in the year of 1631. In this video the lyrics of the Swedish version have been translated into english. Same concept, but with "Carolus Rex" here: • Sabaton - Carolus Rex ...
Check these translations by DarthRaidius aswell, which incoroprates much of the album: • Svenska Stormaktstiden...

@@1891726 yes, Finland didn't exist as a independent nation but truly there were significant amount of Finnish soldiers in Swedish army ranks during the history of Swedish rule in Finland. The Finnish war was fought by Finnish and Swedish soldiers (based on the unit) led by Swedish officers and nobelmen. In my view Finnish troops were vital to Swedish Kingdom in many occasions as your Soldiers were to Finland back in 1939 to 1945. It should be considered as both Finnish and Swedish history, not to seek differences or undermine others achievements. I'm glad our militaries do close cooperation nowadays. Just like the old times 💪🇫🇮🇸🇪💪

I have to say it is impressive how single soldiers can set up, load, aim and fire a cannon not to mention standing next to it afterwards waiting until it reloads itself. It is also very brave to ride horses in between and in front of your own cannons. You practiced that organised marching so much that once you actually fight you don't really need it. Once you notice these things it goes from cool to funny.

The filming with actors used is from Germany with help of re-enactors. Here is a link to their pro German history promise: www.zdf.de/ZDFmediathek/beitrag/video/1223086/Die-Deutschen-Wallenstein-und-der-Krieg#/beitrag/video/1223086/Die-Deutschen-Wallenstein-und-der-Krieg The actual battle performed has been advocated as the Lützen, but if that was so, someone must've done everything wrong. Lützen was totally warred on sleek meadows. Only 1631 at Breitenfeldt did the cannons on hills have a turning point, much like in this Sabaton video. The "new" lighter Swedish cannons used were also important. But that's another story.

You shouldn't have used Wallenstein in the video - at the Battle of Breitenfeld, the Imperial troops were commanded not by him, but by Tilly. Wallenstein was commander-in-chief at the Battle of Lutzen in 1632, where Gustav II Adolf died.

Frozen elete "Gott mit uns (God with us) is a phrase commonly used on armour in the German military from the German Empire to the end of the Third Reich, although its historical origins are far older" .. "In popular culture[edit]The third track on the album Carolus Rex by Swedish power metal band Sabaton is titled "Gott Mit Uns," and is about the 1631 Battle of Breitenfeld.[11]" -Wikipedia.

***** More relevant section: " In the 17th century, the phrase Gott mit uns was used as a 'field word', a means of recognition akin to a password,[2] by the army of Gustavus Adolphus at the battles of Breitenfeld (1631), Lützen (1632) and Wittstock (1636) in the Thirty Years' War." This song is about Breitenfeld.

Frozen elete It was actually Gustavus Adolphus who led the Swedes in the Thirty Years' War. Besides the Swedes, he led many Germans who used the battle cry "Gott mit uns", so in order to win them over the Swedes used the same battle cry (which in fairness sounds very similar to the Swedish equivalent: "Gud med oss")

Frozen elete German was the second language of the nobles in Sweden at that time and our kings family came from german speaking lands. And during the 30 year old long war 90% of the "swedish" army was hired german soldiers.

Because back then we had superiour tactics and we trained our soldiers more and better then anyone else did. Today everyone trains the same, uses the same tactics and have close to the same equipment. Now it would boil down to man power, and we are far from one of the most populated countries.

The Swedes were good allies (together with the French): while they were hammering the Emperor/Pope's hordes in Germany we were taking them for breakfast in the Netherlands. Good times. And we had some good trade too: the Trip family, de Geer.
