Happy to see the french army represented in its proper might here, since France was Europe's major military power at that time, with huge manpower, great generals and a very strong tradition. But as far as tactics are concerned, the swedish were surprisingly effective for a country of their size, punching well above their weight and quickly forging Sweden status as a regional power in Europe. This is why Gustav Adolph shines : he arrived in power at a time when Sweden was still weak, but had the POTENTIAL to become something greater, and he made a huge difference by his military as well as administrative reforms, and his military genius, imposing himself as the best general of the protestant side, against Tilly for the catholics.

Sweden was a great power during the latter part of the 16 hundreds, not a regional power. You can't compare the requirements a country has to have today to become a great power, which is a high population. Sweden had a military that could challenge any other military in the world, and it had influence that far exceeded the baltic region.

The video is actually about Charles X Gustav during the Polish Deluge. The line of succession during the Swedish Empire 1611-1721 was Gustavus Adolphus ("Lion from the North", "Gott Mitt Uns", "A Lifetime of War") --> daughter Christina I ("1648") --> cousin Charles X Gustav (also "1648") --> son Charles XI --> son Charles XII, a.k.a Carolus Rex ("Carolus Rex", "Killing Ground", "Poltava", "Long Live the King", "Ruina Imperii"). The album skips most of Charles X Gustav's and Charles XI's reigns (excluding "The Carolean's Prayer") which is a shame since there was a lot of interesting wars especially with Poland-Lithuania and Denmark then. Most of this album focuses on German and Russian campaigns.

Tony nygren Charles XII is the one that generates the most mystery since its unclear if he was killed by an enemy sniper, shrapnel, friendly fire or if he was assassinated by a traitor in his bodyguard in the employ of his ambitious brother-in-law or a common Swedish soldier who wanted the Great Northern War to end since the war had raged for 18 years by the time Charles died and Sweden had suffered humilating defeats at the hands of the Coalilition, especaly Russia at Poltava and had lost much of their empire in the east to Russia and its allies and even suffered a Russian-Danish invasion of Sweden itself

Wiadomo, że zdarzają się przypadki, które rozpoczynają zdanie od "jebac [kogoś tam]" ale w większości są to "mili ludzie, którzy interesują się historią" i myślę, że mi takie towarzystwo odpowiada :)

People forget Gustavous Adolphous created the concept of the modern full time paid professional army. Prior to his reign the only standing troops were the Royal and Imperial Guards and Fortress troops based on the borders, when war broke out the armies raised were nearly all mercinaries or peasant conscripts.

Hmm, Russia was in war quite against Poland in 1632 (Smolensk war), were we in a war against Sweden the same time?? Then from 1654 to 1667, when we finally took ukraine (okraina) from Poland. The war against Sweden was some later, in Peter the Great times..

Bardzo fajnie zmontowane, jedyne moje zastrzeżenie dotyczy opisu, a konkretnie jego angielskiej wersji. Nie powiedziałbym, że jest on napisany zgodnie z zasadami gramatyki. Pozwól, że poprawię 3 ostatnie zdania: He was fighting against Russia and Poland in the Thirty Years War. He died in the Battle of Lützen in 1632. It's one of my favorite songs from the Carolus Rex album.

What makes me jelaous of Swedes is in fact their patriotism: many Italians forget about our heritage at the point they remember what nation they come from only during international football matches -__- And more, many do not even know completely our national anthem, although I find it intense and moving.
