I honestly think this may be one of the most aesthetically pleasing to me swords you've reviewed it cut very well it handled very well I like that it's a longer wakie I like that style a lot but overall presentation homie can't wait to see the full cutting session

Thanks Dude, I like what Cloudhammer's cooking

Cloudhammer makes some excellent through-hardened katana using S5 and SX105V steel. I have the fortune to test out three of their katana with deep sori, and they do not disappoint. I love their leather ito and the well heat treated steel. One thing that really stands out is the convex distal taper the forge working on all of their through-hardened blades make, which leads to a blade that doesn't taper in thickness as much as others of the same type in the bottom half, but more distal taper on the top half. Quite interesting handling characteristics with mezzo-heavy sword blades. And, this definitely should be categorized as a ko-katana than a o-wakizashi. Wakizashi usually have less than 20" blade and a somewhat short handle that is definitely geared more towards one-handed usage.

Thank you for your input and comments, agreed on CH. skill in producing some really great functionality in their blades, There are some improvements that need catering too, but they are on the up & up...good on you to get your hands on some....and agreed on the classification of this sword...thanks for your support

@@turtlewolfpack6061 negative. That's a big misconception caused by Hollywood. Many shinobi were actually samurai. So they had and used Regular katana or katana that were a bit shorter than the allowed length of the time. But their katana had sori (curvature). The straight blade is definitely a Hollywood thing. That being said, straight bladed swords were used very very early on in japanese history but then evolved to what it is today.

@turtlewolf pack yes it appears a little on the large side to be a Waki....ko katana would fit, especially because it can easily be used two handed and is a bit heavy as a one handed weapon but can be as I showed....Shinobi were Samurai spies and on some occasions assassins, Hollywood made them out to be something else...but they did have special training

You got 2 swords coming dude

In the Sengoku period, it would have been pretty safe to call a sho-tou, wakizashi. Since the nagasa is so close to 2 SHAKU, a katate-uchi gatana would be the best term, if referring to a similar sword made in the around Sengoku period (and a little earlier) . During some parts of the Edo era it would be too long to carry into buildings at certain points (socially/legally), making it a katana for that period. Nowadays, since it is just under 2 shaku, it would still be a wakizashi on paper.

Great info and details thanks. While I've never owned a katana or sword of any type I would love to try one. I have always admired all the Japanese blades especially the art of just making the blade itself. I know S7 is a very tough steel type from knives I've read about. The S5 sounds nice. i currently have cloudhammer making me a custom Osoraku Zukuri Wakizashi in S5 steel so it will be interesting to see how that looks compared to this.

@@JoeSteel1yea i got custom lengths of a 22' nagasa and 7' tsuka also it is an aikuchi construction as well so no tsuba, the tsuka is wrapped with lacquered black samegawa with no ito at all.. i had based my overall idea/design off a sword design on ryanswords site that i really loved but i just wanted it made out of the strongest steel possible which right now looks like S5. My blade differs a bit from the ryansword design in the dimensions are different as well as there is no bo-hi on mine nor any horimono engraving. I wanted to have their custom oar shaped saya made but turned out not to be feasible unfortunately. Once i get it i will try post a review video.

Well if you are talking of this sword in S5 steel, any knife would be stronger with the same steel than a longer sword
