My phone had been falling out of my pocket left and right. With a case and without a case. The screen hasn't broken, but I got some heavy scratches on my phone... to the most part it's fine.

The issue about the aluminum frame scratching and pitting easily is the biggest issue I have with the S21 Ultra, as well. One of them was my fault, as I accidentally dinged it on a counter without a case. The other was just as you described - some debris got underneath the case, and after the phone shifted around a bit, it scratched off some paint. I applied automotive touch up paint to those spots, but the latter bothers me still.

I picked up a cheap PET protector and it's held up well. I had the exact same issue with the frame pitting on a S9 plus with the 45 silicon Samsung case. So I use a case now with a tighter fit and no issues so far.

I've got an S9+ going on almost 3 years old (S21 Ultra on order, coming at the end of the month) and have only ever kept it in a case (aside from every 6-9 months when I take it out to clean out the gunk that builds up around the edges and have ZERO of the pitting you talk about and some microscratches that aren't even noticeable until you actually wipe down the screen with a microfiber.

I haven't used a film at Samsung for years. The scratches are really limited. As a case, I recommend the original leather case, but importantly in black! The brown is crap, because the color dissolves in a short time and it also turns black on the sides. It is very tight and dust does not collect on the sides

appreciate these types of after a period videos for mobile phones specifically the mention on wear and tear, not many tech youtubers put these into details.

Yeah I stopped buying expensive cases too. Just a waste of money. 10 dollars on Amazon is good enough.

I have the same case but don't have the issues with scratches on the sides. I put a screen protector on it the moment it arrived so my phone is still in excellent condition. Have to say, I think its definitely the best phone Samsung have ever come up with and I've had the last 3 flagships that were released. Love it!

Note 20 ultra is better

Not the bezel itself scratches, there is also a clear coat (paint) layer on the polished aluminium protecting from oxidation. Its aluminium, but not anodized like iPhone-s. Anodization is much harder, because the oxide layer itself is filled with the paint pigments, but they also can scratched to bare metal, resulting tiny spots from quartz in dust. You can see the camera, anodized, no problems. Bezel polished, clear coat > scratches easily. Pro tip: PolyWatch polish can help with clear plastics/coatings helped my cheap Casio watch, and my partners Galaxy A40 phone. Just dont expect much from it, because dirt is super hard on plastics. Dont put near the holes and buttons! Abrasive stuff is not good for moving parts.

I appreciate everything you're saying, I'm new to this channel. I found it by having an issue whilst having the S21 Ultra in a clear view case. My screen has scratches down the right hand side of the screen. I did take my screen protector off because that was scratched first, I thought maybe it was because the protector is made of plastic and so would scratch way more easier. That's not the case. My glass screen has scratched also WITH the clear view case installed. They are micro scratches, but scratches non the less. I'm not convinced that Gorrilla glass Victus is as good as they make out.

Most definetly. I had microscraches on my phone just 2 weeks after I got it. My old S7 Edge that I used for 5 years on the other hand (with no screen protection) had not a single scratch on it. The newer glass seems to be much worse

I bought on Amazon two screen protectors for 10 bucks. I asnt sure i needed them but after watching your video just now I’m glad I did. Ty

No screen protector for me. A few light scratches. I just use Spigen liquid air case. Fumbled it on some concrete and my gravel driveway. Still doing swell.

I just upgraded to an S21 Ultra from an S6 Active, which I had almost 6 years. I never had a screen protector on that phone. Micro scratches galore but I got used to it. I'm not putting a screen protector on my new phone either, but I did get a good case and a protector for the rear cameras.

Ahhh, yesss. This year's Android King of Fighters. It is quite the beast, from what reviewers have said & shown. And for whatever reason, nobody seems to like having the 512GB variant of the S21 Ultra in stock. At all. It was the same thing with the Note20 Ultra, and now that's close to impossible to find.

Ive got a 256 being delivered direct from samsung in around an hours time, free buds Pro too worth £220.

The S21 Ultra has a full bezeless screen at the front and a raised lens hub at the rear, so a screen protector and back case are somewhat needed, eventhough I'd prefer to use it naked. I accidentally dropped mine when it was fresh out of the box when i was at my computer desk (less than 1m height) but fortunately the flooring was partial carpet partial false-wood. Lucky for me the S21 Ultra comes fully covered in sticky plastic wrap (even on the sides!) and also had 2 (!) layers of plastic film on the screen!

This is why it's necessary with any case no matter the brand to clean out the case regularly, I work in a body shop and dirt gets packed in the edges and tends to Crack the screen on s10 and 20s right by the power button.

hey adam on my s21 plus, side the panels, it seems at multiple places the black gloss is scratched...while removing / putting on the case, in your opinion the galaxy series has gloss finish on the aliminums on sides and if so, they are prone to scratches or removal with dirt or case removal?

I have the s21 plus silver and my top aluminum frame from left to right where the 2 microphone holes on top are at full of scratches from my ArmadilloTek Vanguard case it's 2 piece case I got from Amazon since the case frame of the phone case pure plastic that happen and the size of the scratches is accurate to the case and I barely notice this week after cleaning my phone and the case that it was scratch and I had that case on for a few months and I baby my phone made sure to always be careful but I'm not happy with the scratches. ( I like Samsung and all but that right there makes me mad since I personally feels the s21 series aluminum frame not that strong) because I had my s10e for a while before and nothing ever happened to it no scratches on the aluminum frame

I have gorilla glass 5 with no protection in 5 years of owning with zero scratches. Just depends on how well you take care of it and being careful.

I have the gear 4 Otterbox case for My s21 ultra and it's protected it very good: after 3 months my ultra is going well and I use it heavily all day full brightness and resolutions, I've gotten a day & half off a full charge(I did an experiment one weekend to see how long it would stay charge with heavy usage(10am Friday morning - Monday 2:19am was at 21 percent)

I’m not convinced by Gorilla Glass it seems like they release a better version every year but how many times can you reinvent the wheel. My phone isn’t cheap so I protect it as much as I can because I don’t fall for the hyperbole.

I swap between a Spigen case and a Later case. I'm not getting any of the pitting on the side of the phone. All in all, it's a B+, but it's a slab phone. The battery and lack of expandable storage. Also, it's a slippery phone..gotta have it in a case. I have to say, the best phone to hold was my LG V60, it felt really good in the hand. But right now, just for variety sake, I'm running my Titan.

Sure. I'm not saying all cases do that. I'm specifically saying the Samsung silicone case.

Sand particles in your jeans are the culprit.. There is no escaping minor abrasions other than to clear coat the screen as soon as it's purchased which I've done to a few phones and then any scratches that happen are done on the top coat. Then every few months, buff the screen and watch the scratches disappear.

Just upgraded to the S21 Ultra from an S9. Had the S9 for a few years and never put a screen protector on and never got any scratches or cracks (the ports did get a little dusty/dirty over time though, but nothing some compressed air couldn't fix. I only ever kept it in my pocket or on my desk to charge at night. Not going to put one on my S21 either. In fact, I leave the thin plastic protector that comes with the phone on as long as possible. Not a whole lot happens if you simply take care of your phone and not handle it badly causing drops, etc.

I dont use a case on my s10. I used to drop my phone a lot when I was younger. I dont anymore. Never actually. When it does,it doesn't break.

I never put screen protectors on any of my Galaxy phones and mine have been just fine. It's not a big deal to me, most people purchase new phones every two to three years anyways so, hey.

mine would drain faster than the iphone 11max i had at first with all the bells and whistles turned on, but now it lasts me all day with everything turned on still; have the always on display turned on now as well.

You mentioned S10 case on S21 Ultra? I have a cheap NTG case for mine Ultra and it fits tight around the edges and nothing happened to the phone yet.

Great 3 month review. I have a note10+ for almost 19 months. As soon as I got it it went into a case and and have a screen protector. My phone looks just as good as it did when I first un boxed it. I don't understand why guys carry there phones in there front pocket, when I'm walking it's in my back pocket. No keys no change. No interference with the crotch. Maybe it's just me.

the back pocket is the best place to get your phone stolen! I really don't get why people put it there. Also how do you sit down with the phone in there? What's the problem having it in front pocket? Also absolutely fine to sit with it like that.

Just want u to know that the S21 Ultra came with a plastic screen protector out of the box. Don't believe me? Run your finger on the selfie camera, u will feel there's two layers, top layer and the actual GG Victus on the camera hole. So the micro scratches are actually on the plastic screen protector that came with the phone.

Wallet case, every adult should have one. Drop the phone, fine, put it in your pocket next to a sharp object, fine. No scratches. Nobody else cares about what phone you have and you don't need to show it off, only you, preserve the phone.

All a matter of opinion. I personally hate my wallet case. Gets in the way when I'm using the camera with one hand while I use my other hand to do something.

I've always gotten screen protectors cause I'm OCD about my screen having not a single mark on it. It genuinely irks me if I see one scratch on my screen so I've always used tempered glass protector and they keep my screen looking brand new one I take it off to trade in

I have a lot of those little scratches so does my friend he said after he got a screen protector

Dropped my s21 ultra in a case on the ground from 3 feet height and now it rattles like crazy. Something inside the phone is rattling bad that wasn't doing it before. Phone still works flawlessly but the rattle is mad annoying

Something i will never understand. As soon i get a new mobile, i install a screen protector. I never have scratches on my screen protector, but if i would have no screen protector, i would have tons of scratches on my screen. Why does the screen protector hold so much better?

After 7 months of use I only have one scratch in the back under one of the camera ( I see some white there probably because I put the phone with keys since then I only put my phone alone in my pocket. The other thing I noticed too is when my screen is off I see some condensation that doesn't go when I clean the screen with water. When screen is on I don't see this. It could be because of the display which is OLED I didn't know.

The clear view case is terrible. A micro grain of sand will scratch the hell out of the glass when you close the cover. I believe the victus glass is softer, but doesn't shatter as easily.. I installed AmFilm glass protector on it which works perfect

I have a s9 that I've had since launch, never used a case on it, been dropped more times than I can count, gets thrown in my bag with keys/coins and all sorts. it has 1 tiny scratch near the centre that you need angled light to see. Just bought an s21 ultra and I don't feel nearly as confident with this phone. I know they claim the back is glass but it feels/sounds like plastic (mine is the silver) 100% getting a case for this thing.

im using s21 ultra now more than 2 years,i took off screen protector in first day,never been on screen protector and have no any scratches on screen. this is something !!! 😍 , but now out s23 ultra and can listen customer complaints ,why scratches easily ? 🤔

Shoot, even my J7 Crown is in pretty good shape. The only crack I have is a tiny one in the bottom left corner after I dropped it in the shower - and that's after dropping it SEVERAL times over the near three years I've owned it. Other than that, you probably wouldn't notice them unless you looked for them. And this baby as seen drill weekends in the field, being dropped, falling out of my pocket, being shoved in backpacks, etc.

My a50 is same has one crack and tiny one on screen but thats after 2 years of use plus this phone fell from 20 feet by my neighbour daugter neighbour took my phone for a emergency call and her 7 year old dropped it from roof lucky phone surrived only that time i saw cracks on my phone but still happy as no major repair was needed

You need that gear4 d30 crystal palace case.

I always use otter box defender case. Those minimal cases are garbage.

I feel the only purpose for them, is for when you go to sell it when you upgrade, no one's going to want one with micro scratches. Otherwise I'd say don't use one

From what I know, yes.

Dedicated pocket for my phones no change no keys no nothing but maybe a microfiber cloth an I work in a steel factory no scratches as of yet and there par for the course rite and that 30$ screen replacement 😃

I am having no heating issue And very good battery life (6-7 hrs SOT). Camera 4k 30 frame no issues. I haven't tried 4k 60 frame though.

@@TechOdyssey 42 minutes of 4k 30 no issue. I will try 60 hz or 8k. I am not a fan of Samsung and was very skeptical before buying this one but so far quite impressed with speed and battery life. Camera shutter seems slow etc but I don't use camera that much. I will try 60 frame 4k or 8k 24 frame and that may be an issue but I think all Android have that heating issue with 8k ( including oneplus)

You are right About screen settings. I don't mind lower resolution and slower refresh rate. I use it at 720p and 60hz so that may have a lot to do with SOT. This is the first truly fast samsung phone I have used (s6,s7, note 3,4 etc were quite slow and S105G was ok). I guess my expectations were quite low from Samsung but I still think that there may be an errant application causing drain if users are getting quite bad battery. Overall Samsung still has work to do.

Update - Over 50 minutes with 4k 60 and phone did get very warm and I think it stopped recording a couple of times (maybe I accidentally touched the stop button too since it started right away). So if user changes to 60 hz and 720p while using camera - this may solve the overheating issue. It's not ideal at all ( I mean this is 1000 dollar phone) but it's worth a try IMO.

I don't use screen protector but I also don't see any scratches but might have flash light scratches 😂

If your phone screen hits the curb that it doesn't matter weather or not you have a screen protector. Rubber cases probably save the screen more by dampening the impact.

Seeing as I've made it 20 years without a phone ever hitting a curb, I think there are more common and important things to worry about like keeping my phone free from common types of damage, drops, and scratches, which cases and screen protectors work wonders for. I have had many screen saved by screen protectors.

MY 3 YEARS TEST of Galaxy S10: I am have been using it without any silly additional glass because come on since they started to make these screens out of gorillas it should last! ;-) The only protection I have is the great Rhinoshield bumper case which doesn't have a back - that means debris DOES NOT stay in it and thus doesn't scratch your phone's back or sides. I highly recommend this. Also the beautiful Prism green back side of my phone is clearly visible without being hidden in some ugly case. And the display DOES NOT have any visible scratches on it except when I rub it clean with a paper napkin and then look from real close while shining light on it as you did, then I can see some micro scratches. The conclusion is that you DON'T need any protection against scratches, because your phone will get too old much earlier before you get any kind of noticeable scratches. But of course I might be more careful then you, so definitely take into account if you are clumsy.

Isn’t silicon as a material contain sand in it by nature ?

I have the screen protector the insurance and a very thick case hopefully that's good enough I think one of the best cases are OtterBox that's what I have and it works pretty good

Mine came with a screen protector, had it for 3 months and the screen looks beat to shit , it stays in my left pocket with nothing else , never dropped it. Considering peeling the screen protector off for that new screen look again.

Same! My S21 5G is full of very visible patches of microscratches just from being in my pocket. I have only had the phone for a month and I hate it.

I work for an airline, do not use ANY screen protector [OR COVER] AND have NEVER Damaged my phone. I stay aware of the floors where I am at [if its not carpeted flooring, I am extra careful] I am just aware of my surroundings. The Cat knocked it off the counter in the kitchen one day but I escaped disaster by have the new fake wood floors 😂. Things happen but if you are aware, you should be safe. I HATE Covers for phones, lol

Update. I dropped this silver phone many times and have a cracked screen. The silver frame is a great thing. There's dings and scratches and the scars are the same color. If this phone was black, the scars would be silver

Mine was scratched and broken within 2 weeks. I have never had a phone screen scratch or break before and I'm rough with them. Just got a replacement. 3 days in and the screen is scratched and cracked again. This phone lasts 3 days to a week tops. For $1500 I spent on it - I feel sick. Fuck Samsung

Great review. I got the liquid screen protector. Cost 64 bucks. Then Verizon puts it in some Ultraviolet machine.

@@rolledtaco it's one of the best screen protector. No scratches at all. Only downfall is play games is different. Definitely a thicker material. I try to keep it clean, and spray it with windex, and other cleaners. I inspect it daily too. I also got the otter box defender and the holder on.

Screen replacement through Samsung Care+ is expensive, right? if I'm not wrong it is $249. I didn't get it on S21 Ultra, because I think there's places where you can get it cheaper, professionally.

No. I believe it's $99 and up to 3 repairs in a 12 month period

In my opinion, people are clumsy and forget that they have an expensive device. I treat even the budget phones I had like a newborn baby.

I've a leather wallet type case that holds my credit cards, I was shocked to find the cards had given the screen some deep scuff marks

There are 2 screen protectors on the phone stock and under them is gg victus which shouldn't be ableto be scratched by cards so consider removing them

My Samsung galaxy a53 5g glass 5 I dropped the phone from my semi door height it got a scratch. I hate screen protectors because fingerprint usually don't work with it or barely

I have the same phone and I don't understand why samsung do what they do sometimes! If I get a scratch on my phone, it's going drive me mad, my ocd makes it worse. Why did they have to add the aluminium to it..It's always good to use a back and front cover, you know the one's that are 360°?😁

Its actually how the owner use his phone i have an iphone xs max bought at launch day I immediately put a screen protector and case and i can sell it for 445

Nope mines got light scratches al over them just from being in my pockets

I stopped using screen protectors on my s7. They aren't really needed. Some help with drop protection I think.

I put mine in a waterproof case. It still looks brand spanking new like I just took it out of the box lol

i dont use screen protectors no more on my s21 ultra. i just bought otterbox defender pro and it works very well

i had galaxy note 8 for three years without screen protector and the only reason i had to replace the phone was the screen that became full of scratches and definitely lower quality of the screen .....
