S2 EP19 | WOODWORK | TIMBER FRAME BASICS | POST AND BEAM FOR THE CABIN IN THE GREAT SMOKY MOUNTAINS

Фильм және анимация

#Greatsmokymountains #Timberframe #traditonalhandtools
In this DIY video, we are on day four of construction on the handmade timber frame cabin in the woods of the Great Smoky Mountains. We are using both traditional and modern tools to accomplish the mortise and tenon joinery and setting the post and beam. At this point in time the cabin is really starting to take shape and is exciting to finally see the years preparation of timbers finally go together.

I have enjoyed watching you and your son build this together. The addition you made on your bucket to pickup the beams is awesome. It's inspiring to watch. The wood pins are going in super tight. God Bless

Thanks. I have a great time when we work together. It’s important to know how and have the skill to do basic things, building being one of them. No expert, but can get it done, lol.

Why trim the pegs? Do they not add craftsmanship appeal to the looks? Also why char some logs but not others? Great looking build!

Just came across your channel. Super content and I’m sure my evenings will be spent learning from you. Got a question though. How come you can fell a tree and mill it for use immediately. I would have thought they would need to be dried first?

When using green lumber you have to build and take the shrinkage under consideration. It shrinks in diameter only.

@@SmokyMountainOutpost Cades Cove is probably my favorite place on earth. Welllll one of them anyway. We actually were privileged to see the red wolves a couple times before they were removed. We sat there after dark and listened to a wolf and coyote howl. Life doesnt get any better than that
