S2 EP39 | WOODWORK | TIMBER FRAME BASICS | MILLING FLOOR JOIST | SEALING TIMBERS | CAMPFIRE COOKOUT

Фильм және анимация

#offgrid #selfreliance #woodworking #timberframingbasics #smokymountainoutpost
In this DIY timber framing video, we continue to construct the cabin in the woods using both modern and traditional hand tools using mortise and tenon basic frame work on the 7 x 7 post by treating them with Australian (Cabot) wood sealant, site prep for logs, milling 2x10 floor joist and a campfire cookout. All is well on the homestead. Follow us through the complete build to the final stage of the cabins basic frame work.

You might want to think about buying some safety chaps to wear when you're using that chainsaw. An ounce of prevention could save a major mishap, if you hit a stone or a nail and the chainsaw bounces out.

Awesome... another dandy day at SMO!! Gotta say, nothing much better than millin' & grillin' up at The Outpost - looks amazing and I think a little BBQ for breakfast could be working for me this morning - ha!! Nice looking ramps, 2x's and the siding pile is nearly done. Nice to see the oil going on the posts and beams... you're nearly set for the next phase, very exciting! Thanks for another quality video and you all have a great day!! >> keep on truckin'

Not sure if this will help, but over here in the UK I've had some success treating timber with a mixture of one third used engine oil to two thirds Creosote. This appears to be a long lasting protection and it has the hidden benefit that todays children not only don't like the smell of it, and they don't like getting it on their designer jeans either. Could call that a Win Win situation.

That’s to bad. I figure if I pay the taxes, build it myself with natural resources and provide the labor and upkeep, it’s pretty much personal business. However, it is in undeveloped area and only restrictions are power and septic regulations.

Do you use that sawdust that comes off of the logs for mulch for your garden or for a flower bed? It looks like quite alot there. Your just coming right along in your work of building your place. Do you plan on living there when your finished with everything. You have alot of heavy equipment there. Does it all belong to you or are you just renting it out.? That's going to be a great place when you get thru with it. Stay safe.

A lot of the old cabins in this area were build from poplar and are still standing. I was told by some cabin builders that structurally poplar was better than say pine from their log referral sheets.

I know it’s a drag... let me see if I can look into it at least . Super appreciate you commenting and I’m glad you enjoy the content! Thank you 🙏🏼
