Just being able to watch and here those beautiful songbirds in the background is therapeutic enough. There's not many places left on the eastern seaboard where you can even hear a songbird any longer. Too many people. You've got yourself a treasure.

I liked showing the use of the sawmill. Also, I see we build campfire the same way...the bloodroot there in one of the last scenes tells me a lot about the soil composition and geography of The Outpost. Leaves one to ponder what other interesting genus of plantae may be lying about 😬

Great video. Is that poplar? And is it a good choice for timber frame

Yes it is Poplar and what I have that is abundant. A lot of the 18-19 th century cabins in these hills are still around. However square dovetail timbers of greater size.

thanks for sharing, Do you dry your wood first, if not do you leave room to allow for shrinkage?

  • @SmokyMountainOutpost

We try our best to dry the wood a decent amount. If it is still any bit wet, we allow for shrinkage. Thanks for following! -Jennifer

Hello my name is Jeff Krug and a new subscriber, love your down to earth videos. Are you planning on getting into merchandise for your channel? That Grizzly bear would look awesome on a t shirt or hoodie?

Bought it at Lowe’s and mine is set at 2 5/16 in depth. One third of the post diameter.

You can order specialty bits that are up to 3/4 and 1 in diameter for faster routering but need a strong router.

Our videos are about our lifestyle here on what has become a Homestead. I film all facets of daily life and not just anything in particular. I’m sure there are other channels that you could find that would be more pleasing. However we do invite you to watch some of our others since cooking is not done in every video.
