When an instagram caption turns into a saga. I reposted a clip of Jason Enns doing an unreal half bar-to-tooth-to half bar on instagram with a half-joke about offering up $50 to anyone who could do the same trick in 2020. 150 comments later and the only person to step up was the legend himself, Ryan Nyquist. After talking about it with him, we decided to film the process. Little did we know that it would take three days...
Shout out to harobikes.com/bmx for supporting both Ryan Nyquist and Our BMX. Brands like Haro allow us to create videos for you guys, so support them when you need something new.

I love that Nyquist is still out there doing it - he was one of my favorite riders 20 years ago along with Mirra, TJ Lavin, Nasty Nastazio, Mike Laird, etc.
Yeeeew!! We need more challenges like this, the old guard deserves more and more than our respect.

Very much agreed this was extremely entertaining, Nyquist is a great rider I remember when I was young I thought it was funny that even in X Games dirt he never took off a single peg. What a beast

Epic view into progression and determination. This is what patience looks like. Also a true "baby-steps" process that allows progression without injury or at least minimized risk. Score 1 for the old guys. Thank you Ryan.
The excitement of when you know youre getting really close to pulling something, and then you get it. Nothing beats that.
Alternate Title: Ryan's 18 minute decent into insanity. That was actually so dope, godda admire the dedication.
Bro, I'm 37 years old and have been watching you forever. Thanks for staying awesome!
Damn, there is an entire list of those crazy tricks that it seems only Enns, Osato, and friemuth could do. Props Ryan.

This should become a thing. Recreate old “one off tricks” and see if someone can do them now. My vote for next one is cam birdwell under side xup double peg on a rafter.

I vote for Mat Hoffman's world first back flip 180 aka flair which he did on a super skinny ramp in the UK in the 90s. Flairs became very common since 00s but everyone does them super low and more like a weird corkscrew thing to make it infinitely easier. I wanna see someone soar up high with a straight back flip, THEN turn the 180 just like mat did.
i got Jason Enns signature on a fox hat from a comp i went to in 2002. such an amazing time.

Dave Osato, Jason Enns and Jay Miron were my favorite Candian riders back then.
Ryan Nyquist is man. He's the whole reason I started riding BMX. Now I race track bikes and work in the bike industry. Also looking to race Cyclocross and Enduro soon
This sort of commitment is probably what made him pro.
Nyquist was my first shop bmx when I started at 31yrs old, now 52 This is cool seeing Ryan

Man, as a fan of BMX my entire life, but only skating for the past 25 years, I had no idea how difficult something like this was lol. When I saw the three digit counter at the beginning, I thought holy shit lol. So sick watching the process from a true legend.
You know it's hard if it takes Nyquist 200+ tries.
Proud to be a mid school Midwest Tech rider! This makes me want to go set up a quarter and re learn all those old tricks!

I remember early 2000 watching Osato and Enns at my local skatepark . I was just amazed at what they were doing.
There is nothing better than that feeling when u land a trick, its priceless no matter how big or small the trick its still just as rewarding

Enns was my Favorite rider for years. He had a Kink add in the 90s. Ryan, you'll remember. Over spine toothpick, to 270 revert back over!!!! He was a badass! And he flowed for a big guy. Smooth. Same with Dave Osato. Those Canadians. I remember here in salt lake, watching Shawn elf Walters doing x up 50/50 grinds. I had to learn it! And did. Having your bars backwards is tough. Nothing seemed tough for Enns on a miniramp. He was ahead of his time. Shout out to Nyquist! Utah misses you and bmx!

This video IS everything BMX... Determination, Excitement, Frustration, Pain... pushing yourself for yourself, not for glory or fame but for the feeling of accomplishment. Even a LEGEND of the sport can still learn new tricks and push himself. ❤❤❤
Massive props Ryan, hard work and dedication pays of. Enjoy watching since the 90’s. Hard trick
I love how he involved his little ones, especially the one on the flat who is just over it right after it starts....hilarious!!
Do more of these trick challenges! Would be fun to see them re done / attempted

One of the dudes I watched and tried to be like in the 90’s... props for the dedication he put in to land it...
Big respect to Ryan 🔥🤟🏻
awesome. many of the clips from mid school. or lines. or tricks. are still huge for today. and on heavier bikes. bmx has progressed but not that much in 20 years. more combos but the riders from my era were doing stuff now that most cant still do.
R.I.P Legend Dave Mirra. But Nyquist he’s up there giving you the biggest atta boy ever he be probably given you the biggest hug ever on this accomplishment 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
YEEEEEAH....anybody else scream out when he made it...3days for him 18:18 for me...stoked for dude...
Best way to do it, build up to it. I'm an old skateboarder, and I ride roadbikes. But I still get down, and watching this video reminded me of my life about 15yrs ago. My approach was, as Ryan's was here, to build up slowly. Knowing then you can do all the parts of the trick, needing only the right moment to stitch it all together. Hats off dude for really applying a work ethic to this "someday" trick.
The fact Nyquist trims his pegs down, is pure insanity to me!

This was amazing man, loved this video. This struggle sums up what is the real BMX, never giving up a trick.
Dedication!! That was great to watch his process through it all!
Brian Vowell's 360 to hang 5 over a spine next please!
Patience, optimism and pain tolerance, fantastic lesson in perseverance.
That’s an excellent example of perseverance and hard work, paying off. Well done
After all these years of watching nyquench ride, I only now notice he's goofyfooted af. Also that is definitely one of the best looking, risky, and difficult lip tricks of all time. Holy fuck, and congrats
This is my favorite video on the internet! Hell yeah, Ryan!!!!!!!!!
This was so awesome to see the progression and just how difficult some of this stuff is! Nice work Mr. Nyquist ! 👍🍻
Man this helped me out so much there are days where I don't feel like I am progressing at all! Seeing THE LEGEND himself struggle with tricks let me know this is normal
Literally yelled when you got it!! This is awesome 👏🏼great job
Mr. Nyquist, ever single tricks, ever single moments. I never forget my first time that I saw Red Bull Elevation Contest 2005, very crazy Nyquist's 720 in mid section. For me he is a legendary of bmx dirt jump...
I got so hyped when he landed it as if I was there ✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾 hell yeah Ryan!
I loved watching your journey and relentlessness!
great video! I would love to see the process of other pros learning new tricks. Im a beginner and have been doing 100 fakies every other day for the last 2 weeks and still don't feel very close to mastering them. It's helpful to see other people especially pros struggle with tricks, it makes the struggle seem more universal.
What a legend. Still smashing it!!
Nyquist had been solid in my top 3 for most of my life. As a young kid I begged my mom for weeks to buy me the miracle boy and nyquist video. And one year the only thing I wanted for my birthday was his shoe back when he got his first pro model with Adidas.. So happy to see him still killing it.
I love the commentary. It's so relatable
Jason is seriously underrated
Awesome Ryan and Ryan I’ve been waiting for this video to drop im a true fan I watched behind the scenes 🙂❤️
Congratulations Ryan!!!! Your hard work and skills are inspiring!!!
I love this stuff. My brother was a bmx rider. Won the race of champions 9 months after he started riding. I was a skater. Took one good nut shot on a bike and decided I was better on a board. Got sponsored, but I quit when everyone else did in the late 80’s. Then picked up wakeboarding my 20’s. During the winter, picked up skating again to keep my balance in check. Stuck with it since. The stuff I can do at 44 is mind boggling to most. A ton of old school flare but I’m not eating Cheetos on a couch. Still can’t nollie to save my life, but got a 270 shove it to 50 grind and 270 shove back in on a mini on lock...Awesome Ryan, still sad anytime I hear about Mira... I lost the brother I mentioned to suicide as well. I think he took too many head hits...
I thought he had this trick already but good spirit and good show. This man looks like an awesome dad. Ryan cracks me up! Our BMX great content muchachos!
Absolute bmx icon (thank you for everything you have ever learned)
Even the half smith half was sick
I love seeing the excitement on growing into the trick. Such a bad ass trick. I looked up to Nyquist at such young age. So rad that he's still killing it. Congrats to that guy!! 🤙🤙
More challenges like this of old crazy tech tricks would be awesome. Also really cool seeing Ryan's approach to safely learning this trick. Don't see that in videos normally.
Best thing I've seen this week on KZread! Nice
I'm an old dude and have no idea how Nyquist held up that long lol. I kept yelling at the screen for him to pop a little more air and lock the elbows in.
Ryan is such a real one. Guy just keeps doing his thing
man i could watch you7 ride all day long always keeps my attention...thanks
Way to go big dog.....never give up..go to see that dedication
It's cool to see Ryan still riding,I'm 41 and Nyquist was my boy back in the day,he's gotta be pushing 45 if not older, here's to you Ryan 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘

Yo this video is amazing, I know that exact feeling of going for a trick for so long that you make up vocabulary for things that you shouldn’t do and thing that you should do. When I was learning tooth pick something that I kept saying to myself is “the carve” and hearing Nyquist say the same thing was dejavu almost for me when I learned how to tooth pick.
I still remember watching Ryan at the X games in Sydney back in the day doing the most unbelievable front wheel stalls. The balance Ryan had blew my mind, so stoked to see he still has got it. Much respect 🚴 GOAT 🐐
lol nyquist still rockign those 2001 haro pegs
Amazing persistence! Great job brother!
Ryan is an OG and a badass much respect! Love to see him still riding i grew up watching him
I have a son the same age as Ryan's 😂 every conversations like that lol
YOOOOO THAT WAS CRAZY🔥 HYPED FOR YOU RYAN
This was awesome! Rick Moliterno did and still does some crazy mini ramp tricks. Krt Schmidt with all his fakie tricks. Heck, Joe Hurlbert is rarely mentioned, but he did some gnarly ramp and spine tricks. I rode with Joe Hurlburt and Dave Freimuth a bunch back then as well as Tom Haugen. All right here in Minneapolis, MN. Tech on ramps was such a big thing back then. Nice work Ryan! I would love to see riders bring a lot of technical stuff back to ramps. Seems big air, flips, flairs and all of that stuff have taken the lime light.
A true legend! Enjoy the ride
Well done Ryan, that was a good battle! I remember seeing that clip back in the day and it was rad - Jason's the man. I reckon Spencer Foresman could also be a good contender for this trick.
Yeah Ryan! Such a sick video - the progression is intense. What a boss!
Barspins, nosepicks and toothpicks was "my thing" back in the days. Maybe not the best on those tricks but still very satisfying to pull off. But I would never pull this half barspin toothpick half barspin off as easy or even near Jason's, or Ryan's. Really good job guys, very interesting video for this almost impossible trick!!
Congratulations 🎈🎈🎈🎈 the amount of determination and persistence he put it into that, I joined u on the elation 👏👏👏
Damn great job good to see a legend still riding
Talk about persistence...nice job and example..!!!
I love his energy!
An inside look at the work it takes to be a pro rider. 🤯🤯🤯 Congratulations Ryan Nyquist. Still shredding at his age. 🖖
Well Done! Great demonstration of determination!
Dude what a legend! So sick
Nyquist has always been my favorite rider for about 20 years now. I had the pleasure of riding with him three times once @ vans skatepark in Milpitas CA once @ 85 jumps in San Jose CA (which doesn't exist anymore there's a freeway there now) and once @ the legendary Calabasas in Sunnyvale CA
So gnarly! Great job Ryan!
I was just waiting for his son to be like “just send it daddy”
love ryan and it was trippy the first time he landed it. it didn't click in my mind he did it lol
I was so stoked to see him pull that. Way to stick to it dude.
