I was filming Ratty Maty for an upcoming project and he mentioned an interaction he had on Facebook with an older rider. Through the conversation, we came up with the idea to revisit some of the old spots in San Diego that have been sessioned back in the day. Sort of a way to pay homage to all the stuff that has already gone down and add to it a bit, too.

As an old guy I'm stoked to see this. For 20 years I've been frustrated with videos being dismissed as "old school" or people just commenting on the bikes or clothes. They don't see the riding. I'm glad these guys took the time, and risk, to understand what was going on back then.

Hopefully this will make you're day. Didn't start riding till after 2006. I can do barspin turn outs and some of those old tricks.

I was 18 in 89 and I think the clothes were goofy as fck.... my mom bought me my first proper bmx in 1983... still riding!
I freestyled back then, I'm now 50, think about this....the bikes were on average about 10 pounds heavier. I still have my 1985 Redline RL-20 Prostyler, and it feels like a beast compared to the new bikes; so while our tricks might seem "simple" we were lifting, spinning, pushing a lot more weight overall. It was a great video. It was nice to see those moves recreated. RAD!!!

I’m 42 and in my growing up years I had a BMX but I could never do any tricks. Not even a bunny hop. I would just ride around, always envious of the dudes you could do and endos and whips and stuff. You should try to track down the guys in those VHS tapes and do a video interview. Also good to see you all wearing helmets, that’s one thing that Anthony Panza and his crew doesn’t do. At the end of the day safety is first

I picked up an old Mosh last year so I could mess around on a local bmx track. I think the bike is a '94 or '95...anyway, thing weighs more than my full suspension mountain bike. Makes watching old videos of guys jumping and doing trucks more impressive for sure.

Some 80's bikes were light. 90s shit was real heavy. At least from what I've seen.
Dang! You guys make me feel soooo old! I turn 53 tomorrow and I am so happy I still ride and I will continue to ride. The 90s was a good time for BMX!
I am 43 and have been riding for 25yrs, I grew up watching and learning all my tricks from Hoffman, FBM... To see a video like this drives me to keep riding and having a blast on a dailymotion! Much love from Ontario, Canada! Please group another bunch of riders each time and keep making these videos!

This was a really cool idea for a video. Funny how it turned out to be so challenging. I'm 42 watching this in Bloomington California but in '89 I was trying alot of those tricks everyday around Acton Guelph and Toronto Ontario. Still ride a little. Still have my old bike (First year Condor) and a newer GT. Hope to see more of these vids
Sick video. We need more of these
as a 30 year old this makes me happy and yes please make more of these..
It's mindblowing that these spots are still around. Great riding now and great riding back then. Fantastic tribute to the history of BMX.

I was like 5 years old i seen this video of the guys riding up and down trees. I grabbed my bike to show off to my dad and grand pa said "Look dad. And rode as fast as i could head on into a tree thinking i would go up flip and come down". Nope i broke my nose and had 2 black eyes. My dad said i did not cry to long and shrugged it off. . I had instant flash back when you showed that clip. Always wondered were i seen it from. Now i know. Thank you for bringing back such good old memories guys.

@sssj806
2 жыл бұрын
Even being a late 90s kid, I feel this. I don't mean the expensive part but the difficulty was there. First you had to find someone who had a video camera, then convince them to let you borrow it. That was hard. Even when I was a bit older in the early 2000s and camera phones were available, you still had to find someone who had one that recorded video where you still only got 30s worth of video, max. Then convince them to give up their £300 mobile phone to a group of kids which usually resulted in one of us getting embarrassed because our parents would only agree if they could record the video for us lol
Respect to you guys for the respect shown to some of the OGs. It’s all about ripping it up when you can, where you can, and making the most of what you got. Times have changed but that chromoly bond is strong.

Shout out to the riders back in the day! 90s kid who admired you riders enough to get a bmx. Awesome tribute.
Awesome video looks like a lot of fun. I'm 35 and live near Pittsburgh pa and I used to ride an s&m Bennett and I had a standard trailboss 250. There was a young man that went semi pro that was sponsored by standard byke co. And he would do insane gaps and would manual for several blocks. I was eager to learn this stuff as it looked so fun. I learned many of the street tricks, gaps ,feeble grinds, double peg grinds on guardrails first then we found some lower handrails. I could do big gaps and manual and I was good at hitting dirt jumps. Then life got in the way and I had no health insurance so i quit. Don't let a worry decide your future like I did, get out and ride. I ride a Schwinn mountain bike now with my 5 year old son when he's on his bike and I really miss my riding days very much!

This is so awesome because I was riding in San Diego back then. Moved to San Fran in 88’ and met all the locals up there to. The scene was all brand new. All new freestyle bikes. Any trick you did was an original. It was BMX pioneering. I’m damn proud to have been a part of it. God, so long ago. 30 years. Man I’ve been riding a long ass time.

I WAS always about bike life....and 35 years ago i got a bmx and that was just a wonderful joyous life ...rode every single day in big packs and made good friends. nowadays i live in the city of london and have a road mountain bike..but i still pop a wheelie every time i ride..(the police are always telling me to put the wheel down ) and then they look and see a near 50 year old man riding like a youth....and i also still cant manual...but getting there
Awesome, loved seeing these guys ride the old spots hitting the old tricks. 👍
This was awesome! Do more of these with more riders in more locations!
You know what's another awesome idea? I want to see people try some of today's tricks with a bike from 20 years ago.

Yo Fudger, find someone to whip the Homan gap at Kona. Not as a one up or anything negative, but to pay homage. Similar to Hoder and the Levan gap. I love shit like this.
