RVK Newscast #95: The Volcano Area Has Changed Dramatically!

We visited the volcano in Geldingadalir the same day that four new vents sprouted up in the area and it’s safe to say that the area has changed drastically. The lava is now around 10 million cubic metres in total with 5 cubic metres flowing out of those vents every second.

In the USA our news casts are scripted and “perfect”. This guy, whose name I can’t pronounce, is such a breath of fresh air. He informs without sensationalizing. He is natural, not made up with layers of makeup. When he doesn’t know, he says that. He has a Border Collie that sometimes comes on the show when it’s safe. I love this guy’s work. Wish we could have him and his camera person here in the USA.

I must concur with the fantastic video comments. It further shows the mystical sense of Iceland to us non citizens. As a person of Danish ancestry I still envision Iceland as a place one might turn a corner and still happen upon a Viking onboard an Icelandic horse. It still has the landscape appearance of an ancient area of the world. And I love it. I’ve not been there. But I feel a sense of it calling me to experience it’s wonders.Tak.

Amazing! This is best KZread channel to follow for information on the volcano. The videos are incredible and Valur gives great reports. Thank You Valur for all you do and hugs to Polly. 🌋😱🐶

Absolutely brilliant report, just natural sound and vision, with Icelanders interacting with their landscape. That is most important the gasps and giggles at nature in all its glory.

the aerial footage of the 17th minute is the one that best reflects the grandeur of this event. No image on another channel translates the dimension of the lava flow so well!

Wow thanks for going back and showing us the changes. It looks a lot different than the live cams, you can’t really tell the size or how far the lava has gone. It’s really amazing. I was watching the live cam when the new vents formed and that was pretty exciting! The cams are all black right now so there’s some kind of problem with the feed. Ones working but it’s all gas or fog so you can’t really see anything but I’m sure that will be fixed soon. Thanks for hiking up there to show everyone. I could have watched the new vent spewing lava in the lava stream for hours!

What a fantastic view of a volcano landscape. It reminds me of Mordor in Lord of the Rings. Thank you for sharing these unique views!

Thankyou. These are the best videos I’ve seen of this amazing event in terms of capturing the sights, atmosphere and definitely the sense of the scale and environment. Appreciate you not having music overlay and allow us to get a feel of what it’s like to actually be there (if only that was possible).

Great job on the drone footage and the reporter, it is so surreal it looks like CGI. I would give anything to be there right now and enjoy this show! I have been to Iceland two times already but something tells me I will be back soon! This country truly is amazing and never ceases to surprise! Keep up the great work!

Truly awesome - wonderful coverage.. How "thoughtful" of the volcano to wait these hundreds of years til drone and KZread technology arrived so the world can enjoy - in real time.
