Vardy is better and won the title without any stars Ruud had at Utd. Ruud is overrated. Sir Alex rightfully got rid of him as he was a tap in merchant who didn't offer anything more. Utd were too reliant on him and regressed as a team, hence why they didnt win many trophies when he was there.

This guy was unbelievable. The best striker I have seen playing for MUFC in my lifetime. What I always remember is, he could just stand there with his back to goal in the oppositions box with the ball at his feet waiting to pass it... or turn and score himself which he nearly always did. Never seen a striker like him since.

The best United striker I've seen. An absolute shark. All he thought about was goals. The single mindedness and determination to score was incredible. Loved by the fans, some great memories and loads of great goals. Thanks Ruud

That's exactly why he was an overrated fraud, all he thought about was himself. Utd became a much better side when they got rid of Ruud to focus on Rooney and Ronaldo. Utd didn't win many trophies when Ruud was there.

@@dantesinferno1093 Definitely played better football in 2006-7 with Saha and the goals were shared around more. But I can't agree Ruud was overrated. He was goalscoring machine, 150 goals in 5 seasons. The treble side were just breaking up when he signed and the great 2008 team had yet to fully mature. So timing has to do with not winning as much, throw in Ferguson row with the major shareholders, Arsenal invincibles and the arrival of Abramovich at Chelsea .

The great Arsenal side that went invincible and reached a CL final, Mourinho’s Chelsea, even the Liverpool team that won the CL was during his time there. If Ruud was in the team 5 years earlier or 5 years later he’d have won the golden boot and the league every year.

@@dantesinferno1093 Interesting. In my mind I thought we won 3 league titles when he was there but we didn't. He was a top top player and went off to win La Liga twice even beyond his prime. I wouldn't say fraud but it's an interesting take. As someone mentioned below, that Chelsea side was one of the best ever, Jose made them into a proper team.

I think he's even overlooked by a lot of united fans. Van persie seems to get mentioned a lot more even though he only had one top level season at united. Maybe it's recency bias

There was a time when RVN was knocking in two goals a game and then CR7 took over knocking in two goals a game. Man U were really strong. No wonder they won so much back then.

What a finisher, guy was ruthless. One of my favourite Ruud goals was against Charlton where Rooney chipped it into him and he chested it, spun and smash volleyed it into the net. Absolute banger. Could have stayed another couple of seasons, world class finisher.

It still gives me goosebumps seeing Ruud after such a long time, I absolutely loved that guy, he was easily the best striker in the Premiership, really miss him.

I can't believe I'm watching this for free. Winners and legends talking about acquiring success that anyone could apply in their respective fields. This interview was phenomenal. Ruud is pure class. We need more interviews like this rather than updates on United (which everyone has been disappointed by). Get Van Persie on and ask him how he learned his amazing technique, what his Arsenal teammates said after they learned he might go to United, what the intricacies were to get him to United, what the intricacies were and what was said during specific moments in his first season to win United the league, how he felt when he found out Sir Alex was retiring after promising him he would be there for at least 3 more years and if Sir Alex spoke to him before anyone else (knowing he made that promise to him), how the players reacted and what changed when Moyes came in compared to when Sir Alex was still the manager, how he fell out with Van Gaal, and how he got his injuries and how they effected him during his playing career and how he recovered from them. A United legend after his first season like Ruud and a lot of topics to discuss 👍🏼

Yeah this is a great interview. Check out the Nani one if you haven't. Brilliant hearing from him on his days at Man Utd. Especially when he talks about training, the culture and the standards that there was at the club.

Love seeing Ruud again, such an honest interview too, really interesting. Interesting he's that far in the managing set-up - look forward to seeing him on the touchline.

Thanks for getting him on Rio. He made me love United when he came in. The best real number 9 striker for me!!

Living here in Spain when each one signed for RM and having Spanish friends rub it in every time. Great to see them all smash it in La Liga, but broke my heart all the same.

This was mint. It's so good hearing from players that actually like football and had/have the same amount of passion and interest as regular fans do.

The best thing about this channel is just the honest recollections of footballers I loved. Howson's questions are always on point and Rio's personal relationship with the guest is always absorbing stuff.

thanks for having Ruud, guys. Please have him on here again after the Euro ends, really interested to follow him on his coaching journey. Lifelong Ruud fan here, btw.

So blessed to have watched this man who was from that rich vein of Dutch talent in the late 90s/early 2000s. Was gutted when he left. Miss the mentality and appetite of our players from that era. Superb show guys, excellent questions and just a warm open, relaxed environment to get some absolute gem conversation from players.

wow, that story about Sir Alex on the final game of the season was great. And then Ruud had his best season the year after. Amazing management.

I loved this episode the most. Mad respect for Rio for connecting us fans with our idols. You have no idea how intense is my love for Ruud.

GOAT striker RVN. Henry won the personal battles in the initial days, but Ruud kicks his ass when it comes to the Champions league and later in La Liga. Henry was just a shadow in La Liga whereas is Ruud is a club legend at United as well as Madrid the two greatest clubs in human history.

This is incredible... Having Rios era on remenicing about games I vividly remember from my childhood and hearing behind the scenes info and first hand stories is almost sureal. Definitely more of this content... Because Rios got such a personal relationship with them, they all open up more. 🔥 Content.

58:43 it's a travesty that the Premier League never got to saw Ronaldo play in England. The only glimpse was that hat-trick, ironically against Manchester United, in the QF second leg at Old Trafford in 2003.

Ruud. Pure gold. What an interview. Extremely enjoyable. A Northerner in Thailand. You guys are helping with the time difference. Something normal to listen to.

You were the reason I wanted to be a striker. I would sit with a notepad during the TV telecast and study your movement. The offside trap, how you would break that by jogging back just in time and your precision in scoring. Every angle, every kick. Rehearsed 1000 times. Man. Your swag, your touch, your looks. Could never find the courage to continue my dream of playing for United. But you, Becks, Giggs, Scholes and then of course Cristiano. Thank you for some golden years and making life worth it.

My all time favourite striker, just chills through my mind when remembering the chants of Ruuuud whenever he scored 🔴⚫️

As a Manchester united fan born in 1992 I grew up watching legends like Ruud and earliest memories winning the treble, this is awesome Rio, cheers for what you do :)

Superb interview love the way RvN is honest and open and a really great professional.. one of my fav all time United player !

I was 11 when Ruud left United so i don't remember a whole lot about his time there but from what i do remember i fell in love. Ruud was an absolute gunman. Really miss having a striker like that at United.
