No vinyl, just a dull grey paint for the top of the dash as per original. Then paint the dash face in whatever colour you decide for the rest of the interior. It's cheap n' easy too.
good job well done 😁😁😁😁
love the ute ..top job..light coloured interior in my opinion would make the blue standout..
Love it!! I had an old 63 EH heavy as hell to steer, but it was mine. 😊
Your first car always holds a special place, and my first few were the XL and then another two XK Falcons. Lovely to see this progress mate, and what amazing quality chrome, to come back so well after SO many years of weathering. Also, re: the vinyl dash, see if you can track down the early Falcon handbooks that show the optional padded dash offered, and see if it gives you any ideas on how to end the top section to metal dash.

yeah i agree ! thats awesome, i bed you wish you kept them!? yes old chrome is pretty resilient compared to new stuff haha, good tip on the handbooks too, ill try that avenue too, thanks for the comment !
Great content, just found your channel and binge watched the XP ute series. Looking forward to the Valiant builds but especially looking forward to the Jailbar shop truck build

That's awesome mate!! Just on a little break away atm but will be back into it shortly on the XW sedan!!
its looking good mate
Light coloured interior will lift the car massively.

i agree, but will it clash with the engine bay and tub? probably will have black carpet I'm guessing, its a hard decision that's for sure

@@TwistedMetalCustoms there's no fail either way mate. The Blue with light interior is a classic, high end look. If it was mine I do light interior with a light colour leather wheel and black carpet. Light colour door trim with blue highlight Watching with interest 👍
My xp has a crome strip across the dash to hold the dash top down
All black dash would be awesome !!! Good job with the car mate :))) Lovit...

cheers Melb! I'm open to all suggestions!
I think you could use the same chrome trim that the Fairmont uses. It stops down a little from the edge. Cheers Darryl

Hey Darryl, thats what i was thinking.. i found a supplier too! but what are your thoughts? just leave it blue on top or go the vinyl? ill have to drill screw holes if i use the chrome strip
chrome came up a treat! good stuff. like you said it just takes time / effort for these old girls to come back to life.

Thanks Russ!
Chrome came up great I'm all for the black interior just seems easier to keep clean I think you can buy like a chrome stick on strip if you wanted to do an edge on the dash folded over might create a bump that would be hard to hide

ah stick on, yeah might be a challenge to get it to sit flush, but that's a good start, ill look it up and try to see how it looks!

cheers mate! i can't wait until you all see the next EP! 👀
love the ute mate, we had a xp fairmont wagon which had a chrome strip along the dash line, where the vinyl ended and had a woodgrain, under that so look up interior pics of a fairmont, might help.

Looking good! But I'd be careful on how much black though. Beige interior with a little black be my choice. And keep and embrace the 6 banger.
@TwistedMetalCustoms

this is true, ill put it in the sun and see how the contrast looks maybe? yes 6 banger is still ok, but needs a freshen up haha
Great job, looks awesome!
Mate the Ute looks brilliant I’ve got a 62 Vanguard 6 Ute that’s a big resto project You’ve inspired me to get it moving

Wasnt the dash originally painted , just paint . You have the blue on the doors , continue it on the dash. I would go a light interior with the blue, even white
@TwistedMetalCustoms
Жыл бұрын
it was tan originally, yeah true, blue is already on the doors, i guess i figured with the black tub and engine bay i could complement it with black trim inside? white would have been nice for sure, hmm... so much to think about haha.. ill do some mock ups and see how it looks, thanks for the input Bruce! legend
mate she is looking killer. did you use the same family mixture on the plastics as well? I've grafted XP tail light onto my Metro and the plastics could use a freshen up. for 100 odd hours you have done a hell of a job.
@TwistedMetalCustoms
Жыл бұрын
Thanks mate! The process for plastics that I use is wet sand with 1500 grit, then 2000, then I use a cut and polish of sorts, then buff it out, works pretty well so far for when I've used it 🤙
IT'S NOT OVER YET!!! 🤠 2 more Episodes left on the XP! (the interior is coming up REALLY good too, so put your suggestions in now before its too late!)
