You wouldn't even know they're Russians if they didn't speak. And EVEN IF they spoke, we wouldn't even be able to tell if they're from Ukraine, the Baltics or Russia. There's no real hatred for Russians here, just a bit of disappointment. I personally wished they had more spirit in them to fight the system.

The EU did not restrict visa for Russians, it just removed the fast track process. Russians now apply just like most nationalities. It's not discriminatory.

  • @free2dialogue

Thank you for providing the facts - EU removes a privilege for Russia - a fast-track visa process. This is _not_ a EU-wide visa ban for Russians. Russians will now apply for visa like all other nationalities, who do not have a special treatment agreement. We had assassinations and covered spy actions in several EU countries and in Russia itself political assissantions are quite common - people usually are poisoned, commit suicde or fall out of a window in a hospital. These crimes have been attributed in many cases to the government - I want to name that at least 5 journalists from the Novaja Gazeta have been murdered. Security is a big issue, it is the question how to best deal with it.

Actually, Russia is doing the same- carefully selecting who is allowed into their country and who isn’t. Have you ever applied for a Russian visa, other than for going to one of the tourist destinations (Moscow, S.Pete)? I wanted to go to Siberia for a hiking tour a couple of years ago, and I was treated like a western spy in the Cold War when I applied for the visa. I gave up eventually, because the visa procedures took so long that I couldn’t book a flight for a reasonable price. So Russians should not complain about visa restrictions- their country has been doing the same to us, long before February 24th.

A household is a simplified system. Refugees are a different classification. But a household or family has the freedom to say no - To anyone. This can backfire economically/socially by general reputation. If my I upset my colleagues and neighbours I may lose luxuries like being invited to a communal barbeque or being in that lottery pool. Happy to debate. But you need to detach from being apart of a specific situation.

5:58 What is a "dirty?" If it refers to any sort of _human,_ then it is easily the most racially discriminatory and disgusting thing seen on 1420 and the fact that this same man gets a _halo_ from 1420, shows just how accepted this kind of speech is, just how deeply racist and accordingly xenophobic, this culture is. Russian visas we not even blocked, EU just removed the entirely non reciprocal "fast track" convenience. It is less the fact that this man scapegoats some obscure human archetype and more the fact that he neatly ignores any culpability on the part of Russia, in order to play the "it's unfair card," against what he perceives to be inferior humans and we're all supposed to just shake our heads appreciatively and pity him. I mean, the rank dissonance of the whole thing is appalling. Do you think there is any 1420 in Ukraine, trolling around, asking citizens if they approve fighting Russia? No there is not, that person would be *arrested* and this is not because Ukrainians are being _repressed,_ it is because in Ukraine, it is a *very* different question. In Ukraine, just _living_ is *actually* a matter of life or death. You could be strolling along in Mykolaiv, or in Sumy, making your profitable videos and suddenly, here lands a cluster munition, or a cruise missile. I don't know, would you think then, while the Tochka is exploding, you might have done just a little bit more, than petitioning EU to make it easy for Russian elites to attend Stockholm protests?

One of the young men interviewed said "They let some arabs in, and some dirties in, but they won't let regular Russians in?" Who exactly are the "dirties" and why didn't the interviewer ask what he meant by "dirties" because that is what anyone else would have asked. He knows what they mean and chose to avoid airing that opinion. He's Russian and wants us arguing amongst ourselves about what is democratic vs. undemocratic. By "dirties" they mean Ukrainians! I have spent hours listening to intercepted cell phone communications, since the Ukrainians set up the platform in mid-March I think, from Russian troops to their families in Russia. In the early intercepts it was young men, boys of 18, who had no idea that they were going to war and crying that they were dying by the hundreds and as time progressed we heard intercepts from paid soldiers and that is when it started getting ugly and what they have called the Ukrainians is sickening and dirties is a polite euphemism for some of the worse labels used to describe the Ukrainians. The Russians realize that most of their news is propaganda and yet they still call Ukrainian's dirties and many really believe that exterminating Ukrainians is fine because they are less than human. That is drilled into Russians on every newscast. Let's not go overboard on what is democratic or undemocratic. If Nazi Germany had been simply contained despite it's extermination of the Jews and it had survived until today as a Nazi country would we give them unlimited access to Europe or America? There is no difference folks. It was the average German who turned a blind eye to what their country was turning into that led to the rise of Hitler and Russia would be Hitler's wet dream if he were alive today. Yes it is dangerous to go up against the Russian state but these people believe themselves exempt from our ban just because they are "regular Russians." So ask yourself this one question. What is a regular Russian?

Or is it that the regime there is so brutal they daren’t do anything? Either way, it’s bad for neighbours. When Britain launched an illegal war, based on lies in 2003, millions of people protested. The fact only a small number of people took to the streets in Russia is revealing. Also the fact some people think it’s a bad move by the EU because it means less Russians money being spent on tourism. Like money is the only thing that matters.

E-tourist Russian visa is very easy. You don't even need to go to the consulate. A regular visa in Russia is also not difficult, especially if you have a wife who is a Russian citizen. You probably never received a visa in principle and it seems to you that it is difficult, but it is not. For example: a permanent EU student visa for a Russian citizen: a certificate from the place of work, passing the entire medical commission (gynecologist, therapist, cardiologist, oculist, ENT, neuropathologist, tests for HIV and other infections, urine tests). A certificate from a narcological dispensary that you are not a drug addict, a certificate that you are not registered with a psychiatrist. Bank statement, providing a certificate from the police that you had no criminal record, insurance for the duration of your stay (although then you still need to buy another one), the exact address of the future residence, supporting documents of the host, translation of documents on education and apostille, translation of the certificate birth certificate and apostille, two interviews at the consulate. Passage of biometrics, fingerprints and eye scan. Just tell me, what did you do to get a visa to Russia from all this?

This was also seen by many of my school teachers, parents of classmates. There were 5 concentration camps in Karelia in total. In the concentration camp, they were told that the only way they could survive was to be slaves in Great Finland, which would occupy the territory up to the Urals. My dad was able to escape during the attack of the Soviet army, and then after the liberation of Petrozavodsk, he volunteered for the army. It was 1944, and Dad turned 17. then they took volunteers into the army from 17. It fascinates me that so many of these people seem to think that everything the west does is based on russophobia, and that it couldn't possibly be a result of something Russia has done. Many say that they have nothing to do with this war, and that they just want peace, and prosperity for everyone. The general consensus among many of these people seems to be that the west is free to do whatever they want, as long as it doesn't affect them negatively in any way. How do these people expect the rest of the world to react? Should we lift all restrictions that inconveniences Russians in any way, and then just hope really, really hard that everything will magically fix itself? I understand that Russia is a country that is extremely hard to change, and that Russians (like most people) prioritize the well being of their own group over the rest of the world. However it is hopelessly naive to hold all other countries responsible for the actions of their governments, while at the same time accepting no responsibility for the actions of their own country, and even suggesting that all reactions should be tailored to not bothering the Russian population. They are free to dislike the sanctions/restrictions (they were never meant to be popular anyway), but at least have the common decency to accept that they are a result of Russia's actions, and that they didn't just fall out of the sky because Russia is the victim of unfair phobia. To be clear: THIS DOES NOT APPLY TO ALL RUSSIANS! And that lady at 3:19 stating that "It's not a privilege to cross a country's borders (...)"; I can see how several of her countrymen share that sentiment, although they have been a bit uneasy about someone else crossing their borders. I seem to recall that it was kind of a big deal approximately 6 months ago.

This theme of helplessness comes up all the time in your interviews. That’s absurd. Maybe you should be doing an interview that asks Russia citizens, “Should you as a Russian citizen be held accountable for what your government does?” Perhaps a follow up question should be, “Are you as a Russian responsible to make sure a good leader is in power for your country and the benefit of its citizens “ We live in times where a countries citizens must be accountable for who they allow to run their country. It is their duty as a citizens ti make sure the right kind of leader is in power, or force them to be removed. The consequences will destroy entire nations for generations to come. Pure blindness and stupidity to say, “I can do nothing about it.” And if someone wishes to turn the conservation back to the US to avoid facing the truth of the question themself, WE DO. It’s called legitimate elections. Leaders are replaced ALL THE TIME. Replacing putin WILL require violence on the Russians citizens part. Once the suffering gets real in the next couple years, Russian citizens will realize they should have done it much much sooner than later. China will not turn out to be a good ally. Look at the relationships they have with other countries - no one likes ot trusts them. China USED Russia to test the international political climate for invading Taiwan and to draw attention and military resources away from Chinese aggression. It failed.

@@k_athiw2991 They should fight! Do you want or do not want the political class of a country represents the citizens! One thing I've noticed a lot in these videos is people's indifference! I understand that they are resigned and that in a country where free speech is censored and there is a risk of ending up in prison, one wants to mind their own business, but they are the only ones who can do something to change the country! If their country didn't involve other countries in things like "special operations" then we Europeans certainly wouldn't care how they manage their leaders. But they cannot pretend that it is not their fault too, it is they who voted for it and it is they who can lay it down! To pretend nothing has happened and that it is not their responsibility while Putin changes the balance of the world is irresponsible! I do not hate the Russians, on the contrary with these videos I have greatly re-evaluated them in the positive, and I simply hope that they understand the reasons for the sanctions, as already said by them, even in Europe we are suffering from the rises, the problems with gas and oil and everything else, it would be easier for us to turn the other side and let him conquer Ukraine by pretending nothing, but we have seen that every 4 years he is conquering one country after another ... for when we have to pretend to nothing? Until when will we not find it under the house?

I'm Polish (so there's not that many Russians as in Baltic states for example) and my social media are filled with videos of Russians yelling at bus stops and streets obscenities, insulting Poles and generally behaving as if they owned the place and told us off for not wanting to accommodate to all their whims. The entitlement is incredible really. And yes, they are aggressive towards Ukrainians who are generally very welcomed in Poland. It's much worse in Baltic states as there's much larger Russian community, and that's why it's mostly Baltics and Finland (main point of transition for Russians who want to go to Europe or buy restricted goods) that push for this ban and I understand them.
