Polish would be unique if it use cyrillic because it still uses Yus letters, which are archaic since Polish is the only Slavic language that retains archaic nasal sounds

@@Natadangsa I guess Polish is unique in a number of ways anyway, as well as the Yus vowels, there are 3 s sounds (s,ś,sz) and 3 z sounds (z,ź,ż). My hope would be by expanding a Cyrillic alphabet to accommodate all Polish sounds, it will allow for some of our word lengths to shorten

@@aleksm3401 s, ś, sz, z, ź, and ż can be easily replicated (с, сь, ш, з, зь, ж). But what truly differentiate it, are the ą and ę. Since those are archaic sounds, this is what they would look like in Cyrillic: ą = ѫ ę = ѧ ią/ją = ѭ ię/ję = ѩ So the word "Piękno" would be "Пѩкно", Częstochowa would be "Чѧстохова", "Gołąbki" would be "Ґолѫбки", and so on

Russians actually do use the number 4 when they are texting. Another good example is the letter Ы which can replaced with q. I personally use "q" as Ы but i have seen it done differently too. So, the word четыре would be typed as 4etqre in latin script. And also they use w for ш. Example: ebanawka.

I’ve been waiting for this explanation since I was a kid and saw “CCCP” on the Russian hockey players uniforms in the 1980’s. Thanks I can now die satisfied.

The best way to familiarize yourself with the Cyrillic alphabet is to learn Russian proper nouns that are transliterated from English. Ex: Нью-Йорк, Калифорния, Аризона, Вирджиния, etc. These are all English proper nouns that English speakers are all familiar with, and they would have a lot of fun learning the Cyrillic letters this way.

"X" in old Spanish was pronounced the same way as Russian "X". That's why sometimes you find "Don Quijote" written as "Don Quixote". Just a random fact.

@@Winter_Purlieu It's so deceptively familiar once I get to reading it naturally. юзаю sounds like pretty much the same word English and Spanish use. It's Indo-European, right? The case system is also easy, because German has taught me how the 4 basic grammatical function cases work in a nominative-accusative aligned language, right? All Russian does differently is get rid of articles and add the word "with" as a suffix, right? Almost every noun predictably tells you its gender with the vowel ending, no need to memorize a hellish list like in German or French! Where it gets hard is when you get into *why* nouns need to always tell you their gender by themselves. A lack of articles doesn't seem like a big deal at first, but when you're in the third declension, you still have to get the noun and adjective to agree, and one of them's irregular in whatever dialect your Armenian taxi driver made up, but he won't understand you if you don't figure out how he messed it up and mess it up in the same way...

Being Serbian from a country that uses Cyrillic and Latin at the same time I am thankful that I can read two scripts. It helps in understanding more languages like Russian, Ukraine, Bulgarian etc.

Fun fact I’ve been watching actual russian Teachers videos and didn’t learn much And this guy helped me learn the whole alphabet in almost one try💀

Я на самом деле удивлен что итальянцы очень хорошо знают русский. В худших случаях, они могут прочесть слова и понять их смысл. Я так же общался с итальянцем, который в колледже учится, и там как минимум 40% учеников либо из России, либо из семьи русских эмигрантов, либо просто знают русский. Видимо итальянский является какой то ступенью к изкчению русского.

Yeah Greek was derived from that, Glagolitic was derived from Greek, and Cyrillic from Glagolitic like Roman described

When i was learning Russian in school. Teacher thoght us that "ы" is like the sound you make when you poop really hard. Ps. Never learned good Russian in school but later in life had to speak a bit Russian so i can speak a little.

Been to Georgia in april 2019, noticed that. Almost nobody from the age of about 35 and younger speaks russian, apart from waiters. What i found amusing is that i've had young people come up to me in the street and start asking shit in Georgian, which i don't speak, and neither do i look even remotely southern. Still a mistery to me what they could have wanted. Anyhow, i absolutely loved it there, it's a most beautiful country. Will definitely come back.

In other slavic countries, the letters that dont make any sound which Roman spoke about usually have a sound in other slavic launguages. For example, in Bulgarian Ъ makes the "uh" sound and Ь makes a sound only when it's spelled with an О and it usually makes the sound "yo". Otherwise it is called "Ер малък" or in English, "Small R".

I see some similarities between the phonetics of these Russian letters and French/Latin/Spanish phonetics: 1. The pronunciation of the letter at 11:36 is almost identical to the French 'Y' which is pronounced 'eee-grehk'/'iii-grecque'. And the sound/function of it in Russian is similar to French words ending in '-il' or '-ille' ex. 'acceuil' [pronounced - akeuy/akuhy], 'fille' [pronounced - feeey/fiiiy], 'travaille' [pronounced - trah-vahy]. 2. The letter at 14:59 corresponds with the Latin 'æ'. ex. 'curriculum vitæ', 'et cætera'. Also slight similarity to the French 'œ' from 'sœur', 'œuf', 'bœuf', etc. 3. Letter at 8:29 corresponds with the Spanish letter 'ñ'. ex. 'mañana' [pronounced - maNYAHna] There has to be a connection here.

@@danivory7122 Ну вообще в английском "Cyrillic" произносится [səˈrilik], ну вот такое произношение устоялось, я думаю, тут удивляться нечему, и вот это уже звучит не как "Кириллик", а как "Сыриллик", ну а то что там вместо "s" сказал "c" может быть из-за его русского акцента, ну или он сам не знал как точно произносить, а возможно ещё, что тебе просто послышалось.

And now the stupid politicians here has run Norway and every Norwegian broke trying to slow down the corona virus (which is not that dangerous compared to the flue according to huge number of actual experts).

Russian and other languages using cyrilic letters would be so much easier to understand, if they'd change the font

Having learnt many languages, this video has finally allowed me to accept I will never speak Russian, which is a language I really want to learn. I obviously need a live in russian in my house in uk to have any chance.

I really hope some day everyone would stop using Я, И and Ц in pseudo-Russian stylizations of English words. It's so freaking cringe

Fun fact: the letter Ъ in Bulgarian has a sound and it is like mix of ы + а like you are saying rubber.

From a Greek speaker's perspective, learning Cyrillic was the easiest thing I've ever done, it's all bark and no bite.

In Dutch we have a very similar sound to ы actually! It's written like "uu" in the front or middle of a word or a "u" when it's at the end of a word: "huur" (rent), "schuur" (shed), "accu" (rechargeable battery), "menu" (menu).

There was a short lived joke. At some point Kim Kardashian presented her new logo that was made out of two letters “K” joined in the back. So for a lot of Russians it really resembled a «Ж». So what’s the punchline you may ask? Жопа (smth like a turdass) in Russian also starts with «Ж».

To remember the Cyrillic “p” means latin “r”, it helps to think of it as the greek rho symbol.

Mongolia was detrimentally impacted by being forced into the Cyrillic script. Luckily they are now reinstating the Mongolian script and will only keep the Cyrillic along with Roman script for outsiders.

Yeah, the Β (vita), Ρ (ro) and Χ (chi) is also pronounced in Greek the same ways. In addition some other letters that exists in Cyrillic and (modern) Greek alphabet but not in Latin.
