Russia tried to sell a SUBMARINE to a Colombian cartel

In 1980, a Russian man named Ludwig Fainberg arrived in Miami with his sights set on the American dream... or at least, a certain type of it. Fainberg, known to most as "Tarzan," would work his way into the organized crime underbelly of Miami, culminating in an insane plan to secure a Foxtrot-Class Soviet submarine for a Colombian drug cartel.
Here's how it all played out.

the fact that KZread has bullied it's sole money makers so far into submission that we end up having to self-censor information that poses no harm to those that watch this content is criminally insane.

Remember how hard creators on cable TV fought censorship? Just look at South Park and Jerry Springer. They were the most controversial things on TV in the early 2000s but now people can say fuck on TV and no one cares. But for KZread creators if no censorship means no money, you bet your ass they are beeping out cocaine.

Fun story Alex, right before I got out of the Navy I was stationed at the Pentagon as part of the Joint Staff Intelligence Directorate. I was on watch in the NJOIC inside the NMCC and we were right in the middle of a big interdiction campaign with SouthCom, the Coast Guard and the DEA. I was doing basic searches on google for open source info and I had come across an article from 2000 about a submarine that was being built in a mountain workshop 18 miles from Bogota. Columbian police found Russian technical manuals with said sub. I passed this to the DDI and it spiraled from there, an hour later the then Chairman Admiral Mullen was on the watch floor holding a video conference with other high ranking officials about Russia helping Narco traffickers. Pretty interesting day. It was believed that the Russian mafia was responsible for transferring the documents and If I’m not mistaken the documents were for a Kilo class sub.

Every time I hear this story I think of my relative who served as a submariner. They died before hearing this story and would have served on a sub of a similar class. I remember hearing stories about the size difference between modern subs and post WWII subs. Not everyone can make it as a sailor under the ocean. I also remember them joking around about giving the public a test run in the water. Knowing that you can say you can do it but once your under and you hear all the odd noises while diving. Some people couldn't handle it during training and that was training Imagine trying to get any regular guy to operate the sub with a limited crew who could help without panicking. To add the layer of them buying a nuke to this is just unbelievable. Talk about the ultimate arms dealing. Wow! I regret not touring a sub years ago when I had the chance. Being too frugal and semi claustrophobic made me pass. But it definitely would have been a hell of a conversation to talk about later.

The ship at 10:22… HMAS Torrens, one of five River class ASW DEs the Royal Australian Navy operated during my service. There had been six but one had been paid off before I joined up. There were also three DDGs, four FFGs and six Oberon class subs. I did a two ship deployment to SE Asia with Torrens in’89-‘90. In Hong Kong we had a big Christmas Day party and booze up on our uppers(most definitely a wet ship!) with American sailors watching from the other side of the pier. There may have been some “state sanctioned” piss-taking, Maybe not. The Captain and XO were watching though and said nothing when three of us(including “Captain for the day”- the youngest of the ship’s company would traditionally be dressed as a Captain) went over there and went onboard “just slightly” inebriated” to wish them a merry Christmas. I saw in new years in Hong Kong together with a few blokes I’d either trained with or served with from Torrens and I’ve been onboard in Hong Kong(Torrens was from Fleet Base East, we were from Fleet Base West, so we only rendezvoued up top). My cousin was a submariner who was on the guzunder which fired the Mk48 in that sinkex which was carried out by a Collins class. What can I say? Our navy is small… but growing these days! Sorry, I’ll stop rambling now…🤣

To be fair, the Swedish submarine in question (Gotland class) has Air Independent Propulsion, which is a highly-efficient Stirling engine, running on diesel fuel and cryogenic liquid oxygen. It's able to stay submerged, and haul a**, for over a week at a time. Most diesel-electric subs have limited battery capacity; they can stay submerged for a while but they can't go very fast while doing so.

Strange image at 09:43. A Walrus class sub with names of Saab en Damen. Walrus class was built by RDM while Saab Damen is in the running for building successor. Damen today won contract for 4 new frigats (air defense en command). Its not very probable they will win the contract for the new subs FYI

It's pretty disturbing that mental health initiatives in the military are being politicized. The mental strength of servicemembers, worked on by the best military psychologists in the world, is probably the US military's greatest asset.

i think the issue is not with the initiatives, it's with the reason why these initiatives are becomming more and more important. It's kind of a "chicken and the egg" thing. You see similar situations in the civilian space like education.

They have done the same with military promotions as they have been blocking it last time I checked(about a month ago)! It's despicable! Reagan did the same telling Iranians not to release American hostages before the elections in exchange for better negotiation terms when he wins just so that he can defeat Carter. @@jack37133 well i'm not a psychiatrist - but if you look at the decline of our society, when parents have no time to spend with their children. Often resulting in very poor development as we are giving them mobile devices just so they'll shut up - as overworked mom and dad are too busy working overtime to keep the family afloat... Then you create alot of potential for mental health decline nation wide. And i think we're starting to see that, both trough the enabling factor of technology these days. But also due to the poor insight of parenting these days combined with longer work weeks and increasing inflation. I sound like a broken record, but this really seems to be going downhill in the last 30+ years

Hello Alex. I like Your videos and the information You have, concerning the Air Force and other topics. But, the Swedish submarine You refer to as "diesel-electric", is wrong. That is not a diesel-electric, there is no diesel engine in the sub, for propulsion. But a Stirling engine for charging the batteries. That, is almost as quiet as something mechanical can be. (It work with warm-cold gas principle.) Check that out. They "played" with US Marine, and is, as far as I know, the only "hostile" vessel, ever "sunk" a American aircraft carrier. Correct me, if I am wrong. from a Finn in Diaspora

Your wrong! it is a diesel sub, it carries two diesel engines of (1,300 bhp (970 kW) each), two Stirling engines of (75 kW (101 hp) each), and one electric motor (1,800 shp (1,300 kW)), to one shaft. The Stirling engine is tiny and only used to extend under water capability then main charging is done from the diesel's. Aussie Collins class subs in war games claimed an aircraft carrier a decade before. From these exercises a much improved ASW protection exists today. Note : That video of that frigate splitting in halve was from a Collins class Mk48 torpedo, torpedo's are vastly deadly weapons compared to anti ship missiles.

Hello and thank You for the answer, but: Please, exclude the torpedoes, I don´t care/did not, mention them. And You are right, there are two diesel engines onboard, but these are only able to operate, when the sub is surfaced. That, was my point. The Stirling engines prolong the dive time to several weeks. (Take a look at Wikipedia.) As I mentioned and was my point is: The sub is extremely quiet, is able to stay submerged far longer than "normal" diesel subs. This one is even more quiet, than a nuclear sub, and thus, was capable to take a picture/"sink" a carrier in that, please note: game.@@LeonAust
