The texts are composited, meaning they're two screenshots placed one on top of the other, but unless Brand or his lawyers have said the texts are fake and that they can prove it, they're genuine. The Times legal department would not allow them to publish faked texts (that they've claimed are vetted) because they would be sued for literally tens of millions of dollars.

Every girl has at least one "boyfriend" and if they're not married they are legally "single". So you're 100% right.
