Russell Brand On Recovery From Addiction And His ‘Villainous’ Baby Daughter | Megyn Kelly TODAY

Comedian Russell Brand is out with a new book, “Recovery: Freedom from Our Addictions.” On Megyn Kelly TODAY, he admits, “I was a terrible drug addict” and advises an audience member in early recovery to reach out to other people like herself. I met Russell once in a coffee shop in London. He was in front of me in the queue, and he let my friend and me go ahead of him. He was really lovely and kind and asked us what we were doing. I told him it was my birthday and we were having a shopping day in London. He wished me happy birthday and paid for our coffees. What an awesome guy.

I agree. She took him seriously, which I don't think he is used to from other interviewers. They kind of expect him to be a certain way, and when he's speaking serisously about something, it's like they try goading him into some outrageous moment. She didn't do that. She recognized how important his message is, she respected him and his intelligence, and he reciprocated. I think both of them enjoyed talking to each other.

@Jason Chu I actually learned something today from this interview! The part where if you're miserable ask yourself if you've done something altruistic that day. This makes sense. I read a book called 'Undoing Depression' which had the premise that altruism, doing things for others, can lessen depression. It was integral to my recovering from clinical depression. It would make sense that it would help someone in addiction recovery.

Once you know that, and you know how to make others feel that way, then you know how to talk to anyone.

No matter what Russell is talking about his charm exudes from his every pore! I honestly believe he is a good man. Not perfect as he admits but he's come a long way in his recovery and it shows. Such charm and gallantry is in short supply today. Bless him and his family as they face the ugly challenge before them. Rock on Russell, you have millions of supporters who love you! ♥

I love him. This was a great interview. Usually people don’t know wtf they’re walking into with Russell Brand, and he takes over. Megyn kept the conversation on point and kept him calm, which isn’t easy! He’s so high energy! Two brilliant people having a brilliant conversation. Love love love. This made me a Megyn fan for sure.

The one interviewer, Megyn Kelly, who was genuinely respectful and kind to Russell and did not try to pull some provocative questions, for a change... Refreshing! Classy lady. Others are always abusing the privilege, exploiting the opportunity of having Russell interviewed to propel their show ratings at his expense by posing low-integrity, intrusive and passive-aggressive questions and comments.

Russell is right though, I never thought much of Megyn but she's glowing in this and actually comes across as a decent human being to people like me who didn't think too much of her in the past. Great interview all around.

It’s amazing how he can adapt to almost any interview setting and interviewer. He’s a great guest. I was anticipating a bit more comedic relief. He definitely fit the segment. The audience looked delayed in their English to American English decoding. I’m glad Megyn booked Russell for the show. I search for any new mass media interview he commits to appearing on. It would be funny to see Russell and Anthony Kiedis volley wit and comedy back and forth as guests or interviewing each other.
