🚆 Rush hour cab ride with operational insights and specialities (Switzerland | S11 Wila - Aarau)

Welcome aboard the Zurich S-Bahn Service S11 from Wila in Zurich Highlands to Aarau, the capital of canton Aargau. Today we're not only driving from A to B, but you will have insights into our operation and get to ride in a non-public passenger train for a little. We are approaching the evening rush hour, so we're preparing our trains by coupling them to other units. This is done to cope with the many passengers during the busy rush hour. Sounds interesting, right? Everything you should know is explained in the video during the operation. After a little preparation work, we're diving into rush hour ourselves. The sun sets while we're on our way to Aarau, a perfect recipe for a trip with a lot of variety and beautiful sights. Sit back and enjoy the ride!

    Something went wrong with the two platform walking scenes. Those should've been timelapses, but for some reason are not. The sound therefore does not match the picture. Sorry!

    Thanks for telling us this story - love the decisive coupling manoeuvre at Seen and the subtle regulation from Dietlikon onwards - I trust that in the other direction, the announcements make it clear you won't be going beyond Seen if you're in the rear 6 cars - thanks again \m/

    Why the coupling-uncoupling fuss was made in Seen and not in Grüze, where are some side tracks to park the train and not to drive it so much back and forth?

  • @RailwayEmotions

    @RailwayEmotions

    2 жыл бұрын

    And how would the passengers get on and off the train on a siding without a platform? Doing this in Grüze would require shunting, closure of the barriers to do so and create much more fuss than the straightforward solution with Seen.

    Thanks for your great videos! And a small question: are all of swiss rail routes “left-handed” (train driving on the leftmost side when on the part with multiple tracks) or it depends on route? I’m curious, because I always thought that Switzerland has right-hand drive for cars.

  • @RailwayEmotions

    @RailwayEmotions

    2 жыл бұрын

    Yes we drive on the right with cars and usually on the left with trains. As you said, it depends on the route, in some instances, trains are usually on the right track. On most routes, we can use either track without any limitations. This is specially useful in case of a disturbance.

  • @jonistan9268

    @jonistan9268

    2 жыл бұрын

    What trains do doesn't necessarily have anything to do with what cars do. Left hand running is the norm but there are a few routes where the opposite is the case. Routes that run on the street for some distance and have double track there (mostly something like light rail) like a tram usually are right hand running on their entire route due to the sections shared with cars.

    So, a 3 unit train comes into W-S from A then the 1st does a shuttle to W leaving 2 & 3 to ECS shuttle to S-K just to get out of the way then back to W-S and wait for the missing piece to rejoin. This divide/join can't be done at S-K because its too short. Right?
