"Afterimage" is the tune I kept playing when Neil died. It's such a Neil lyric, and helped me with grief of losing my Dad and my Brother 2 years apart, right before Neil had left us.

yes. I would say RUSH needs to be listened to repeatedly to grasp every part of it. Geniuses!

The Clockwork Angels album is so much like a clock in terms of intricate detail. There are layers on top of layers of sonic textures in each track on that album.

There's something about a Rush audience that brings the impact of their live songs to a new level. You hear how the song is being received and how the band responds to them.

I really think this album showcases the growth of Alex as a guitarist. His solos are a far cry from the Zeppelin-esque, pentatonic blues-based work from his early days. These songs have sweeping arpeggios, harmonics, runs with wide intervals, and melodic lines of diads and triads. His tone also moved into the 80’s with the phaser and tight delay being present throughout. I also have to say Neil does an excellent job of incorporating electronic drums into his tool kit. They’re not over the top, but add a nice flavor to the drum part.

About playing the whole album through, that's pretty much what we had to do when dealing with vinyl and cassette tapes when this music came out. So, it's good that you listen to it this way - because true professional geniuses like Rush and Queen put their albums together in the expectation that you'd listen to every song in order.

Trust me, my friend, by the time I'm finished, you will have heard/seen 90% of their catalogue live! That being said, I think there's something to be said for hearing all of these songs the way we did back in the day (which is one of the reasons why I purchased a new turntable and speakers, plus a couple of used (analog) amps and a preamp a couple of years ago - as well as all of Rush's original or anniversary edition vinyl). You can keep moving forward on their discography and we'll take care of the live performances for you.

There is no way for me to recall all the times Rush was on for road trips, driving around in Southern California, just kicking back somewhere doing this and that. Rush has be the soundtrack to my life since in 1981.

One of the greatest albums in a long catalog of impressive musixal achievements for Rush, and my 1st live one, in Montreal Canada. RE Distant Early Warning, “Absalom, Absalom! “ There is something so powerfully delivered by Geddy in those last two words... they’re actually haunting to listen to. Maybe it’s because of his Jewish lineage, and these words hark back to biblical times..., whatever, they’re piercing. Neil ends this song, alluding to King David’s 3rd son (Bible) who had the charisma but not the character to rule or lead the people of Israel, and because of pride /greed, rebelled against his father and ended up dying in war against him. When his father saw his dead son he grieved deeply and spoke those words twice, which echoes the theme of the song for mankind; which is mankind cultivated pride and greed to a point where we brought all life to hang in the balance, as we stood on the brink of nuclear destruction. Same story manifest on a global scale, thousands of years later. Let the wise discern... RIP master lyricist and poet of my generation , NEP.😪

No matter how much synth work Geddy is doing, there’s always a point in the “guitar solo” where he hops back on bass so he can go out front and jam his ass off with his best bud.

Re the Holocaust, it's also interesting how Geddy describes that his dad kept it to himself (and died young, which Geddy attributes - at least in part - to his experience of the Holocaust), whereas his mother spoke openly and often about her experience. The fact that his Mom and Dad met in a concentration camp and were married in one converted into a refugee camp immediately after the war is simply mind-blowing as a story of love and resilience.

In his book, Geddy describes three separate incidences where the memories of his parents' Holocaust experiences deeply affected him: on page 284, he describes being "rattled to my core" when the Hemispheres Tour landed in Nuremberg, Germany; on page 387, he recalls a visit to the Holocaust Remembrance Centre in Israel with his son, which had him in tears; and on page 443, he describes how the venue in Frankfurt, Germany where the R30 video was filmed had played a significant role in the Holocaust and how it affected him to be performing there. His ability to feel other people's emotions so deeply was one big part of what made him such a great singer, and I look forward to seeing you discover more of that.
