Fiction has no message anymore, and they wont let stories BREATHE, so its nearly impossible to care. Great video, as always!

The music in the 90's series (background, opening, endings, etc.) is the one thing that I miss the most. Every one of the intro and outro music was perfect. The background music had soul! It was able to inspire so much emotion for every situation and character. So far the new adaptation has no music that stands up or sound somewhat memorable. My favorite is the oniwabanshu theme "Oniwabanshu Kyoto Tansakugata" and "Ishin Tenpuku Keikaku" from the Kyoto Arc, memorable in the battle with Shishio. Not only that, but they use classical music for some scenes that conveys powerful emotions in that moment, "Cavalleria Rusticana - Intermezzo" of Pietro Mascani when Kenshin says goodbye to Kaoru, "Beethoven Sonata No. 8 'Pathetique' 2nd Movement" when Yumi runs worried to Shishio and "Her most beautiful smile" from Taro Iwashiro, the music theme for Sayo Amakusa in the Amakusa Arc (Even the filler had music with substance and feelings). The music in the new one is so bland and uninteresting. It pains me greatly. I always wanted to "produce" a version of the anime (granted I have the money) and do the part that it was missing.. the Jinchuu Arc. Maintaining the original and only remastering the drawing with the new animating technologies. Retaining even the Amakusa Arc, soundtracks and more. Try to have on board the same voice actors and hire the same people behind the music to finish what was started back in the 90's. For me it would be the supreme anime version and a personal love letter to this amazing anime/manga story. As I was writing this, I began to listen to those songs again and I felt every emotion that one day the 90's anime gave me. Those music shared something, they make you feel something beautiful and you stuck for the rest of your life with those songs. Something this new version doesn't have. So far this new anime doesn't have something that I'll take with me for the rest of my life. And sadly, it feels like the music in this one is just generic and boring.. like they only put there just because, for the need of having something in the background. For those new to this anime, I recommend you listen to those music that I cited here or see the 90's anime and you will see the abyssmal difference. For me is one of the best soundtrack in anime history. Etheri0n.. maybe.. you want to talk about this in great depth in your next video? It will be an interesting topic I think. Edit: Noriyuki Asakura is the composer of the 90's series. Praise this master!

In my opinion, the original episode is also better for me because of the way Sanosuki stops when the two children appear in the middle of his battle with Kenshin during that night, which shows his care for children. Now it makes me excited and wonder if they would improve the episode where Kauro, Misao, and Yahiko fight against Kamatari and Henya, or if it might turn out worse.

Great analysis. Especially about the main characters having their opinions on the Sekihoutai been informed through their society which to me adds more honesty and nuance to the storytelling.

I started by watching the original anime, then I went through the manga, and now I'm dealing with the new anime. While both anime adaptations have their good and bad points, the manga is the original material. That being said, I can agree with a lot of your critiques on the new series, I can also agree with some critiques toward the original anime. The manga is the best with handling the story and the original anime handles the majority of the story the best.

I can't watch the new version of the anime. It is boring generic and just not appealing. It feels like there is no charms in it. The fight between aoshi vs kenshin, watch the old version and new one. The old feels more dangerous dark and you feel whats going on but for the later :/ its just plain disappointing...

Great Video. The problem is anime has declined since the era of the 90s Ruroni Kenshin, anime fans usually aren’t smart enough to notice this though. Honestly a shame how Berserk and Ruroni Kenshin reflect the decaying anime industry being unable to surpass their 90s counterparts in style and directing.

I just randomly stumbled upon your channel after looking up some anime from back when I was a teen (yes, I'm slowly becoming a living fosil) and it's interesting to notice how you don't simply go: 'haha, old stuff bad'.

If anything, the trend with my channel has been the opposite. But I'm mostly just looking at each show and judging whether or not they're good, then comparing them. It's so simple yet so many people seem to default to calling me nostalgia biased when I haven't even watched the original when it aired. But yeah, I think it's also annoying when people say that old anime are bad without any reason.

Something isn't bad because it is new and also not because it's old. There are old shows that are barely watchable after getting used to modern standards, and there are new shows that are barely watchable after seeing some old shows. Sharing a personal opinion about all of that is bound to annoy some people.

Are you gonna review the filler? Or that doesn't count to you? Because both adaptations have scenes that are not in the manga and in the case of 96 version had original anime episodes

I,m sorry I am late, to see this video. I watch the new Kenshin and it nothing like the old one. The problem I have with the new one. The fight is to fast. And the remake is a rush to finish the episode. They skip a lot of good episodes. I love art work on the remake, but it can’t never be like the old one. The old one better 😊 U are so right.

I think I'll just leave those videos alone for now. I actually don't have the files for all of those videos anymore and I don't want to go through the hassle of redownloading those. It's a cool suggestion though and I'm happy you would ask for that kind of thing.

In my opinion I do appreciate the original Rurouni Kenshin anime but the new one really truly amazing and does actually follow the manga on how the characters suppose the act and the story which I appreciate. The original was doing its own thing and not following the manga but the remake is more serious and darker just like its source material.

@drakecassell1840 I don't think ratings are the mark of a good show and it says a lot that you do. A lot of shows that are bad have or have had pretty high ratings. Example: School days. Back in the day, it had an incredibly high rating and then later everybody recognized how terrible it was. Not to mention, ratings are not an objective measure of a show's quality as these ratings are determined by other people's subjective opinions on the show. Forming your opinion on a show based on how others rate it is pretty weird too. You are also entitled to your own opinion.

@@etheri0n959 that's one show where the rating doesn't represent the community and what they think, Rurouni Kenshin fans would let you know if it was bad, so I'm not saying a good rating always means good show but when it comes to the Rurouni Kenshin fan base I believe they'd review bomb it if it was bad since most have rose tinted glasses on for the OG, nostalgia and all lol

The only reason I compare the original to the new is because that's the whole point of a comparison video. And I can make a comparison video because it's my channel and I can do whatever I want, but if you want a video solely on the new adaptation, just skip all the parts where I mention the old adaptation and that's my review on the new one alone. And vice versa for a review only for the old adaptation. All of the points I make towards either one are stand alone and would still stand even if the other adaptation did not exist. I said this in my video, but you probably didn't even watch it.
