We technically saw them in the OVA. And also in the great live-action movie.

I really liked this episode. Got a lot of crap from people because of the controversy, but I stuck to my guns and checked it out This episode reignited my love for this series, it taught me so much as a kid. And it damn near brought me to tears to see it like this as an adult. I know fans of this series get a lot of flack because of the actions of the mangaka, but I just wanna say thank you Ryan, you standing for the series you live really helped reinforce my decision to stand by it as well I'm so happy you enjoyed the episode We're back!

I am here with you my guy, loved the original anime, never buckled and read the manga so I am still blind for what we never got animated. I am super excited for this reboot or remake whichever you are calling it. Kenshin Himura is the GOAT!

I LOVE it already. We’ll see about the musical score though. It’s very difficult to surpass Asakura’s original compositions.

​@@gpanthonycan't really judge it for sure with just 1 episode yet. Especially when we already have the bias of liking the og ost to begin with. Objectively, if I were the to judge the OG music. It would be the op and ed that stands out more to me in just 1 episode. A lot of the og ost stuck to me most when I already watched a bunch of episodes going into it. And OG episode 1 don't really showcase the best ost the og has to offer. And that is probably the same for the reboot. But if I do prefer the OG OP and ed, though the reboot ED I like it a lot. I do think the new OP is about on par with the later OP from the OG.

I like it a lot! the only thing I miss is the original music

The visuals in the Op were cool. The first couple seconds that show the difference between Kenshin/Battosai were an Homage to Samurai Champloo

The Live action kinda rewired my mind on the Hiten Misturugi Ryu alteration of making it hit enemies multiple loads of time because Kenshin is now using a Sakabato. They really sold the fights in that. The reboot is a nice watch to revert back to how it was in the manga and making watching Ruruouni Kenshin have a fresh feeling.

Technically, the manga's still ongoing and I'm fairly certain if this anime wants to adapt the entire thing it'll probably continue to the newer material. I do hope they find a way to incorporate Shishio's side manga into Kyoto arc.

@empirezz2728 the author started a sequel story called The Hokkaido Arc a few years ago.

The OVA with Tomoe was gold... I really hope that they do justice to what we feel wathing it. The environment is surreal, it seemed that we were there together watching everything happen. Not to mention the mood of melancholy and coldness that passes, its cool as damn. Never saw anything like before 👌🏼👀

The original was one of the first anime’s I ever watched as a kid, and to see it come back puts a genuine smile on my face and tears in my eyes.

The impact of the fight scenes of the remake is like cocomelon compared to the original and kimetsu no yaiba. It's just too simplistic and very brief, you just can't savor it.

I just rewatched episode one and noticed we get a tiny glimpse of the Jinchuu story during Kenshin's speach to Kihei. This makes me hopeful that they are planning to finally animate that arc.

Let's go! Also don't forget the on going Hokkaido arc which is pretty good from what I've read (I need to caught up) So they have a lot of material to cover if they want to.

My childhood was kinda shaped by the anime. Growing up kenshin was an anime that could potentially shape someone into a person one could be proud of. Also it was my early injection of anime content which threw me into the ocean of this great japanese form of artwork which i still float on. Nostalgia. Thanks for covering it Ryan. Love it. Fan from India.

I have vague memories of watching Kenshin on Toonami as a kid. Then i watched a majority of the series years later as an adult. Still fire

Seeing as the series has been confirmed as 2 cours (seasons) back-to-back it wouldn't be surprising to see they adapting the whole Tokyo Arc and, maybe, the beginning of the Kyoto Arc at least.

They should be able to cover most of Kyoto. There’s about 12 filler episodes in the first season and a lot of fluff in the canon episodes. By removing Ayame and Suzume they already gain quite a few minutes of airtime

my favorite character in this anime is Shishio Makoto. Can't wait to see how they portray him here. So far it is pretty decent, although the music won't be as good as the original but the action looks pretty intense.

Us Rurouni Kenshin Is Also My First Manga That I Brought And Also Its My Favourite Manga Series Untill I Read VAGABOND 🧡👑

So happy this show is getting more exposure Kenshin (Shinta) has always been a role model for me as a child growing up and this show has such a important lesson within it that can benefit so many people. No one is past redemption, everyone can be redeemed if they truly feel remorse for their actions, even a manslayer.

Hopefully they adapt the Jinchu arc unlike the original

Thanks for your thoughts and input. As I am almost 40 years old the OVA and subsequent anime series still remain one of my favorite. The four part OVA has yet to be matched in story, setting, and music. Samurai X is the epitome of a masterpiece. I love the characters and am looking forward to the return of Rurouni Kenshin as I don't think there is anything to improve upon on the OVA.

I was a fan of the old anime back years ago. Then I read the manga and it was better! This reboot is exactly what I wanted. It will be awesome to see the whole manga animated. I'm not thrilled by the OVAs, especially Reflection, so let's get a faithful animation of Jinchuu this time.

Let's be frank, it's super awesome to have a new kenshin anime in 2023. I still can't believe it happened.

I prefer the scenes of the original like when he saved kaoru from Goheis first swing running and the part where he smashed the fingers.(looks badass) Also, the speech about sword being a happen. Feela more "authentic".

I believe they know what the fans want. I’m hopeful and confident we will achieve the animation of the jinchuu arc! My dying wish the last 25 years lol. They tease kaorus father in an introductory way - so hopefully it is supported and sought through all the way to the newer Hokkaido arc. Although - all I care about is a full animation of the original manga series. ⚔️

When people ask me about my favourite anime character, it´s always been Kenshin since 2001. Today my favourite Manga is also Berserk, but my favourite character will forever be Kenshin. So I totally feel the same way about this reboot, it´s so familiar yet so exciting to see a new faithful adaption and fingers crossed they´ll get to the Jinshu Arc this time around. Gotta say I´ve always prefered the Trust&Betrayal OVA over any other adaption. To anyone who has not watched those Rurouni Kenshin OVAs, they´re timeless masterpieces of animation.

This is basically full metal alchemist all over.

*WARNING! POTENTIAL SPOILERS!* Read at your own risk if you are not familiar with manga or if the ONLY thing you've seen is the 90's adaptation. People who are well versed are welcome. Remember when Kenshin talked about how naive Kaoru's ideals were (while also criticizing the philosophy behind Kasshin-ryu) and then we had a flash of dying samurai and a woman? This scene was not present in the manga! At first I doubted it, but now I think I know for certain who exactly these silhouettes are... If you watched "Trust and Betrayal", "The Beggininng" movie, or read the Jinchu Arc in the manga, you might also get the idea. Long haired woman in white kemono with a dagger, and then the samurai that died during the clash against Battosai... I think it's pretty obvious who were they. I think some people can argue that it was an unnecesarry addition. But something tells me, that this scene was added as a forshadowing for the new watchers. And I personally loved this bit, since it adds a bit more of that tragic weight behind Kenshin's words. Anyways, I adore what they did there!

If this makes it to the Remembrance Arc, I will be stoked. Probably won't top Trust and Betrayal, but I always love to experience that arc again.

Rurouni kenshin was my first anime i found by myself and i would buy one or two manga every bday and Christmas with gift cards or money I would get and I have the entire manga series still today took me years

Oh my God really? I’ll have to search for it. I absolutely love the manga, it’s an amazing story.

Grew up with this series since junior high ❤ and mind you, I'm almost 33. I own the entire manga collection, the Samurai X OVA movie series was my first introduction to anime, and I did grow up watching Rurouni Kenshin back when it aired on Toonami... God I feel so old 😅 but this is my most beloved shounen series (even to this day, both this and Inuyasha) and I am so stoked to see this remade into a new adaptation for new viewers to enjoy 🎉 P.S. did you notice the few seconds scene that is a hint of Kenshin's tragic past? 😢

I'm a HUGE fan of the OVA prequels, and I also liked the 90's TV show a lot (except the excessive fillers). My favorite character is Hiko Seijuro, followed by Saito... All I hope for this current series is that they make them as badass as they were in the previous versions, lol. But I didn't read the manga, so I don't know how they were portrayed there. One thing I'm pretty sure they will never be able to reach the same level, is the soundtracks of the old anime (I'm not talking about the Intro/Outro, but the soundtracks inside the episodes). Those soundtracks were absolute epic!

Literally topped jujutsu kaisen s2 ep 1 imo, that’s all nostalgia talking but god damnit it was fucking beautiful, that it was. I’m really hoping they get the same dub voice actors, it’s one of the few dubs I truly enjoyed

I remember enjoying taking my trips to Best Buy to collect my two favorite Japanese animes of all time...... Which is Rarouni Kenshin and Yu Yu Hakusho. I hope they come with The saga concerning Tomoe little brother. 🗡️

I will saubthat i am basically anime only, it is the anime to get me into anime as a whole and my all time favorite, in past couple of years i collected the entire series, i have the complete anime / ova box set, all of the live action movies, and all of the viz big manga volumes. I do plan on reading it too.

About the music choosen for the anime i like the outro of the new anime i also think that its better to be the opening

The Ed music sure is better. But The OP works well with the visuals incorporated to it. Since I imagine a high octane Action visuals won't fit the Ed music that much.

This anime is my all top fave it taught me so many good life lessons on how to live

That art and animation though. Kenshin seem kinda more aggressive in this remake lol. He said "I should've slammed you". I was like sheesh.

The man-slayer is here again also I was planning on not watching it originally but changed my mind plus probably gonna wait still it's complete to binge it also where can you even watch this lol

Kenshin was the series that got me into anime and I spent 3 years from middle to high school collecting the full manga set. I should feel bad about buying the manga but considering this was 2006 and I was young enough to be in the mangaka's "prefered age" range I think I get a pass. 😂. Definitely excited to see the Jinchu arc done and done right.

Saito is my man, I love the fight where he woops kenshins ass in the old one lol. Makoto shishio is probably my favorite though except his henchman hoji that explains literally everything.

They foreshadowed something that will be revealed in the last season in the first episode.

I love Saito's introduction here, more than the manga's, because having Kenshin dream about Saito just before he appears is quite lazy, having him already introduced makes things look less made up. Oh, and the jinchu references in the opening and the reference to the original opening… 😍😍

i still think the first episode of the original anime was better but the first episode of this remake was fantastic. im so excited for the Oni Waban episode and shishio arc as well as the Jinchu arc being animated.

I was like who is this old guy? I didn't remember him in season one 90's version (I've seen it 2x) and an anime only, so I'm even more excited now to know that this revamped series will follow the manga more closely.

HE is the brother of the fake battousai. the mastermind of the plot to take the dojo. He isnt in the original. In the anime they made up a grandfather and filler 2 kids

not gonna lie, I really was hoping they'd use the first few episodes to cover the Samurai X Trust & Betrayal ova's to give some basis on Kenshin and why he is the way he is. but maybe they still will put some more time into than the 90's anime did. the ova is one of my favorite tragedies I've ever seen that hit me harder than almost any anime has ever hit me. here's hoping!

Nah, I think that will be counter productive to the mystery of Kenshin's past that are built up in the later arcs. It would spoil the fun for new watchers. Also objectively since it would be fitted into a quite long series of episode. It works well to tell it within the Jinchu arc since it's story carries a big chunk of emotional baggage needed to make the Jinchu arc hit hard and gives more context to it. It's a bit wierd to see the characters vying to learn a specific past about Kenshin many episodes in when the audience already was shown that specific past in like episode 1. Yes the Trust and betrayal works well as a stand alone but having it separated from the Jinchuu arc would be detrimental for the Jinchui arc. Also it's not surprise that the remakes probably can't top the Trust and Betrayal OVA since they did that already masterfully, like the OVA altered the visuals etc to make that as masterful as possible. Even if the remake Shows a good and faithful to the manga adaption of the story at episode 1 will only garner immediate bashing since it won't be like the OVA. Like of course you can't top that OVA, asking somebody to that would be nots and not thinking logically.

I don’t like the music but overall I enjoyed the first episode. This episode was more a faithful adaptation to the manga than the original 90s anime. Looking forward to seeing this series

What i expected from the new remake is how they animate hiten mitsurugi style.

RK is my favorite Manga, and the first one I have completed. And BTW, Saito is the best character, please.

As an anime only from the 90's who's remained anime only all these years this premiere was everything I wanted (minus the original soundtrack) and I would say in terms of story and hooking the viewer the remake had a better series premiere than the original.

About the episode 1, i did enjoy much. I also RK fan, one things i like was the part be more like the manga. But what i dint like much was the songs or music. I know they try to do new version and so on, but music from 1999 series make me fell much more in the time Menjji Era. Im not say bad, but i just cant make me fell on the correct era or timeline for me. This music for me just dont appear to be well on the anime. But noting that ruin the new RK or cant be fix.

They seem to make this remake more serious than the original anime. They seem to cut a lot of comedy out to very minimum, but we'll see in the next few more episodes. I liked the drawing and the animation. The soundtrack of the original Anime set the bar very high, but this remake score soundtrack is mediocre at best(in my opinion). The next thing is the pace. I like the original Anime pace build up, but since this is the first episode. We'll see how it will progress in the future. The opening and ending theme are ok. not the greatest but not bad, but definitely not as good as the original Anime. We will see.

thank goodness it's not like Hunter X Hunter 2011, where they rushed and skipped important subplots

Its sailor moon crystal meets rorouni kenshin. i was a bit confused when watching with fake batosai as i haven't watched the original or read the manga in years but i thought the fake batousai was a student of kaorou's father. guess that was something from the english dub or original anime

Bruh, I like the first OG op myself but the new remake OP is about as good as the later OG OP.

I like the newer version of Samurai X because the action is more realistic and Kenshin's character is now more suitable, unlike the old one, who is a trying-hard pretending comedic guy that looks to have no tragic past in his life. With this new one, You will not feel like watching a replay of an anime scene. I am excited to wait for the bigger picture of this show.

It was good, though I was hoping Kenshin would pull his groin, saving Kaoru the first time. IYKYK

I watched the original at leased 3 times and the movies

I Watch Rurouni Kenshin 5 time on Netflix in 2019 with it was on Netflix

Ever since I've read the manga I couldn't appreciete the animations anymore, since they differ a lot from the original ideas, also the art isn't anywhere near as good as Watsuki's art. What I liked about this animation is: The original colors for characters, good voice acting, good intro and ending songs, and the fact that they are trying to stay close to the original story. What I didn't liked: The fact that they cut some parts from the manga, the songs in between scenes where it breaks the wondering of silence of how the viewer should feel to the acting and scene overall. But to conclude, it is way better than the 90's version, and I hope they stay close to the original manga.

I refuse to acknowledge the final OVA. There's no way Kenshin died with his son ( Who Hiko would never even entertain the idea of even just pretend training Kenji after he saw what happened to Kenshin) hating him and being completely distanced from his family for years at a time. For me, the end of the manga is where Kenshin's story ended.

I enjoyed it. It does not hit like the original really cuz the music is lacking seriously, a lil rushed, completly skipped over the other Hitokiri. There are still deep detailed drawn cuts, I like how they actually show more animation in the fights rather than the still animations of already defeated opponents an acutally show the style. Hanyas fight deserves to be better. Hard shoes to fill with the music though. they really knew when to bring a track in an the correct 1 was picked all the time. think imma go listen to Hiko's theme right now.

Honestly I feel like it gets underplayed that, kenshin is pretty overpowered

I'm liking it so far, though I didn't expect Kenshin to be so playful. His morals are also refreshing to me. For context, I've been reading Lone Wolf & Cub, and in that series, there are many characters that value "honour" (aka Pride) above all else, and it makes me irrationally angry, especially since this mindset still permeates Japanese culture today.

I collected the jintchu arch manga . If they would have bring this ark into animation form it would probably be my favorite Arc of the whole series. Did it at all right job of it in the movie but not as good as manga

To me, the 90s did this intro bit a lot better in term of characters development and getting you to care about our main characters. At the end of the 20 mins, i didn't connect with kenshin or kaoru in the new series. It looks promising, but the first eps is a little underwhelming for me.

I'll be honest, i like the 90s first episode better. That's also because the 90s version had one of the best 1st episodes in anime. That said they're also following the restoration redo of the manga, which is good. For those who don't know, the original author redid the first arc almost entirely and its much better than the original so I have high expectations.
