The Truth About Akame ga Kill

Ойын-сауық

Everybody who talks about this show either talks about the anime original ending or about how the manga's ending compares to the anime's, but none of that really matters.

What i also found funny is that they realized that the justice girl wasn't an inherently evil person like every other villain, so the writers decided to make her completely deranged to compensate

I think the problem with Ga Kill is that is a shonen trying to hard to be a seinen. It trued to have these dark themes, featuring characters who look like they jumped out of several different shonen titles.

This way of thinking is stupid. Shonen can have dark themes (devilman , attack on titan , hokuto no ken) and seinen can have light themes (grand blue). The two targets only serve to indicate at what age it is more congenial that they are addressed but do not imply the treatment of the issues.

I've always agreed with this take of yours. Akame ga Kill just kind of sucks on a fundamental level. Even after finishing the manga, outside of changing the fate of the main character and some of the Jaegers (Kurome isn't entirely defined by her relationship with Akame for instance), the anime just kind of expedites things to reach a similar conclusion, which was done at the suggestion of the author anyway (or he could have just signed off on it, I'm not sure so don't quote me on that). The anime does miss out on the fetishistic levels of macabre edginess too (i.e chapter 23.5, and the part with the pedo clown raping and killing Bols' family on his grave) so it not even "appealing" on that level. The artwork is also less detailed in it's grotesqueness in the anime so that might have contributed to why you don't agree with it's reputation as an edgy series. But the fact that all the villains are either remorseless cackling serial killers that wear r***-faces all the time (probably because a non-insignificant amount of them are r**ists) without a shred of nuance still earn the label in my opinion.

Fair. The villains are cartoonishly evil and the show's outlook on justice and punishing evil in the world seems really juvenile.

@@etheri0n959 I always thought it was pretty half-hearted whenever it's insisted upon that Night Raid aren't heroes when the series never gives room to question their methods or motives since all their assassination targets are painted so unflatteringly as total monsters and nutcases with few exceptions from Esdeaths team. The only time the writing dares to make you feel conflicted was with Chelsea shanking Bols in the neck. The portrayal of twisted justice just isn't twisted enough for my liking. The Boys this is not.

I remember finishing this and being genuinely confused as to why the general consensus about it was "it's good but the ending is bad" when i had almost the exact opposite opinion lol. I've always thought that the show was absolute dogshit except for the ending, which while still being kinda bad, was genuinely the most tolerable part of the series imo

Akame ga Kill is a show that’s easy to enjoy but difficult to respect. It’s always so much fun to tear apart such a complete mess! 😂 You’re spot-on here. Very amusing video essay. 👍 When people say Akame ga Kill is edgy, I think they mean it’s gratuitously dark for the sake of being gratuitously dark. I’m not sure that’s true though; I agree that it’s trying to be dark for the sake of emotionally sucker punching the audience harder. It’s just that when it’s too incompetent to land the sucker punch, it seems like it’s dark solely for its own sake. Of course, Akame ga Kill is also literally edgy. Who doesn’t like cool swords? 👍

I agree Akame Ga Kill is a huge mess i never understood why people love this anime so much this might be a odd comparison and i am going into spoilers for Naruto: Shippuden but the deaths in Akame Ga Kill and Danzou's death are kinda similar Akame Ga Kill never took the time to make me love the characters and Danzou we saw him being a jerk for 200+ episodes and then they expect to make me feel sad for his death but newsflash i was glad he was going away unfortunately he didn't truly die there because he kept reappearing in later episodes there is also the death of Eren's mom in Attack on Titan we can feel sad for it happening because Eren deeply cares about his mother and that scream at the end from Yuuki Kaji was insanely powerful but it also kinda fails because we the viewer never got to know Eren's mom so it's not as bad as Everyone Ga Kill or Danzou's death but it is worth noting

The manga is twice as long and also has a prequel and a sequel , in addition to the fact that some things in the main series go differently. To enjoy it you have to read manga. As for the deaths, each one serves a purpose and doesn't necessarily have to sadden you. For example, sheele's it is true that it was quick but it serves to make the reader and tatsumi (who will reflect after her death) understand how the claims of the night raids about dying at any moment were true and the manga does not spare anyone just because he's a main or nice character. BUlat instead serves as a teacher for tatsumi, so that she grows and gets a teigu (mine in fact, will think that tatsumi for the deaths of sheele and bulat was sad but not for chelsea, showing that the character grows). Some like chelsea's look silly and useless but it's good if the author wanted to get rid of the character.

I really don't like the death in this anime, except for Seiyuu cause she deserved to die! She was so crazy and cruel, killed millions of people to make her dead mentor proud. Not sure he would be proud of his student after she killed families, kids and villagers. He would find her mad. Anyway, thoses parts went so fast. Tatsumi meet Bulat and the purple girl, talked to them during one day then BOOM they died. He barely knows them and me too! That's sad because Bulat was a nice guy, funny and helpful. I was angry that he dies, the assasin didn't deserved it 😭 The action is cool, the opening too but i wasn't invested in the story. Things goes quickly, the calm moments didn't last long and; like i said, the death were lame. The animation is pretty but not enough to make this anime good.

Seryu is an interesting character, who shows us how the empire's propaganda affects many individuals deemed enemies of the revolutionaries. Also you have to try to put yourself in her panin. We know that before her, her father was killed by a criminal. This led her to hate those who didn't abide by her law. Her night raids later killed Ogre and Stylish, two people important to her. This led her to hate criminals more and more, so much so that she killed without going through a court. Yet despite all this, she thought she was doing good for the people. I think it's worse Tsukushi, Akame's friend in the prequel as she admits that she knows how the empire works but that she doesn't care. BUlat had one purpose, which was to tutor tatsumi and deliver the teigu to him. It makes sense that quiet moments are few. After all, they are revolutionaries. However, if you are interested, in volume 1.5 there are 3 stories each linked to a respective character (sheele, bulat and lubbock).

@@TermInator-np6vw Seryu is a shitty character lol. The reason why this character is so shit and generally doesn't work is simply because she's insane. She's basically a wannabe female version of the Joker. She's got this innocent side and in a moment's notice, she'll go crazy. But because these sides don't feed into each other at all, it's like 2 entirely different characters inhabiting the same body. Her insanity causes her innocent side to attempt and justify her crazy side but this never works because the innocent side has to pretend that they didn't just commit some horrid crime. A great example of this is when Seryu commits a war crime and doesn't bat a fucking eyelash. The anime attempts grey morality with her and even tries to get you to sympathize with her by giving her some backstory and her trying to form some emotional ties with other characters such as Stylish and Esdeath, but this doesn't work either. The worst thing about all this is that towards the end, the anime seems to realize what an awful character she is and has Mines verbally call out all her flaws to which she replies with it calling nonsense and doesn't even go into any further detail. You can't have a character like this, try to give multiple facets to said character, then not have them defend their ideology if unless they are too one-dimensional to defend such ideology, as is the case here.
