Running While Black: We Are Here

Ойын-сауық

Directed by Jenn Shaw and narrated by Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Running While Black is a 3-part series in partnership with adidas that changes the conversation in sports; promoting equality and highlighting runners whose shared identity shapes their daily experiences.
The Ahmaud Arbery Foundation will kick off the series with a powerful remembrance of Ahmaud and the heartening story of how those he left behind have lifted up the Black community. Ahmaud’s murder has gripped the world through national television coverage and global protests, and this episode focuses on the legacy of Ahmaud, his mother's drive to empower communities, promote safe running, and the foundation’s commitment to serve and protect the next generation of runners, specifically Black men and boys.
The first episode will also feature Ashley Toussaint, a track coach and the founder of Running Edge 305 based in Little Haiti, Miami, and Russell Dinkins, a graduate of Princeton, and a five-time Ivy League Track and Field champion in the 400m and 800m who has focused his efforts on saving collegiate track and field programs.

I had a job in the Bronx, New York a few years ago and I was going to work, I walked out of my house at 5:02am and the bus left at 5:05am. I started running to catch to the bus or else I would be late to work when a police car cut me off when they never had any call for any crime committed. I never had any verbal communication with the two officers but I pointed at the bus thus they let me go.

If you do not feel the pain, it doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist for others. You shouldn’t aim to silence their pain but rather understand it. Your statement accentuates why this is very necessary. The USA is not listed as a "Full Democracy" in the global democracy index but is listed as a "Flawed Democracy" due to the suppression of minority voters. In the rest of the developed world people do not wait for hours to vote, we are in and out. The USA has 4% of the global population but has 20% of all prisoners on earth. They lock up a higher percentage of their population than any nation in human history. Most are African-American men. The USA brought in a law making slavery legal in prison when they outlawed slavery and at that point started locking up black men to use as slave labour. International relationships are going up in Ukraine as there are more black people living there. Such relationships were rare as Ukraine isn't a slave nation (not former as the USA still allows slavery in prison) with a massive black population. If the best you want to do is be better than Middle Eastern theocratic states that still stone people to death then you have a very low bar. Why not aim to keep up with the developed world instead of being seen by the rest of the free world as backwards and racist?
