Chorus:
Two years ago, a friend of mine
Asked me to say some MC rhymes
So I said this rhyme I'm about to say
The rhyme was Def a-then it went this way
Took a test to become an MC
And Orange Krush became amazed at me
So Larry put me inside his Cad-illac
The chauffeur drove off and we never came back
Dave cut the record down to the bone
And now they got me rockin on the microphone
And then we talkin autograph, and cheers and laugh
Champagne caviar, and bubble bath
But see ahh, ah that's the life, ah that I lead
And you sucker MC's is who I please
So take that and move back catch a heart attack
Because there's nothin in the world, that Run'll ever lack
I cold chill at a party in a b-boy stance
And rock on the mic and make the girls wanna dance
Fly like a Dove, that come from up above
I'm rockin on the mic and you can call me Run-Love

It is THE iconic opening line that created the crayze. I was in Jr High when this came out--a kid from El Salvador was singing this in woodshop while working the disc sander. He could barely speak English, but the boy had all the lines down. That's when you know your shit is worldwide! Run DMC weren't the first (props to Sugar Hill, Kurtis Blow, and all the brothers working the NYC rap scene) but they broke through the ceiling and made this a global phenomena.

This sadly is when hip hop blew up to its greatest era but didn't last. After Biggie and Pac shit fell off. Breakin Poppin n lockin,graffiti,D.J.ing all these things were woven in the fabric of real hip hop. Does any groups or so called M.C.s even have a scratch, one mutha fu kin scratch on they tracks??? The music these young dudes are putting out now is a form of Rap music but it's like real Hip Hops 3rd cousin who isn't really that related so you might hit it. But you would never make it your girl. I miss the 80s and 90s. I hope I'm alive when the military finally admits aliens and time travel so I can go back to like 84 and check out The Fresh Festival at the Spectrum. So grateful that I got to experience the greatest era of Rap and Hip Hop. That era will never ever be topped. So many M.C.s and groundbreaker groups from that golden age. So if you're somewhere around my age between say 40 to 55 you witnessed hip hop history in the making and it was a fuckin privilege. Peace out ya'll. I'm bout to lookin searching looking for the perfect beat!

Funny how they chose not to use any American Black or U.S. Latino B-Boys but instead European ones showcasing how far Hip-Hop had reached and impacted other heads one would not normally think would embrace the culture, especially to such dope precision levels. Love how all 4 Elements of emceein', deejayin', b-boyin', and graff writin' are repped too. And of course, Golden Era Hip-Hop fashion of the 80s and 90s as well. Dope

Now I can say that a lot of them are taking care of their families and some are locked up. Do you think live the life I've live and live to talk about it ? I really don't think so.

Classic!! This video was made in late 1999 and early 2000 before Jam Master Jay passed away. The video show's the group's footage and breakdancers from the USA and the world were straight up b-boying and showing the world what hip hop is really all about. Point Blank! I believe I saw this on their Together Forever DVD, a collection of the group's music videos from their self-titled debut to 1993's comeback Down With The King. I still own that DVD currently. Otherwise, Crown Royal was ready to put in 2001 and D.M.C. was the only one in the group didn't participate because of his voice problems he had. In my opinion, Crown Royal led the beginning of the end.
