Royal Enfield Meteor 350 - Ride from Alto de Velefique to Velefique ( Almeria, Spain ) - Summer 2023

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Hi there,
still not 100% healthy yet but here is that unused recording from last summer, of Buddy and I descending from Alto de Velefique to Velefique. It must have been the height of summer and very hot because I am riding in just a t-shirt and some body armour !
I managed to get out and film some new "sossidge action" with Ruby for this one, so Ruby fans, stay tuned until the end of the video.
I'll continue to take it easy this week and give you another update ( or an actual video ! ) next week.
Thanks again for your kind messages, your support and your patience !

Thanks Mark. Yep, this was a nice ride, last summer. It must have been hot because it's very rare that I ride in just a t-shirt and body armour. Normally I manage to survive the entire summer riding in my mesh jacket, so this must have been a very hot day ! I'm glad that you like the t-shirt. I have had a few of them printed and of course only wear them when out on the bike 😝 I just thought that it would be nice to put my channel out there, anytime I was out on the bike and stopped for a walkabout or refreshments ! If anybody asks me what my channel is called, I can just point to the t-shirt, saves me having to spell it out for them 🙂 Cheers Mark. I'm enjoying your videos by the way. Loved your garage chat 👍🏻 Take care mate and good luck with all of the heated gear and mods and stuff 🙂 Garry & Ruby ❤🐕

The trouble only starts when I have to talk for a few minutes or longer. That's when I start to cough my guts up again. It's still the case unfortunately but at least I can feel my energy levels slowly getting back to normal 🤞 and am well enough to be able to earn a living again. Now I just need to clear my chest, shake this cough and then hopefully I can get back to my normal life ! Hoping to be fit some time next week at the current rate of progress. Thanks Lance ! For music I use Epidemic Sound. I pay an annual subscription ( which isn't cheap ) but their website makes it pretty easy to find the type of music you are after and also you are guaranteed never to get any copyright problems. Failing that, there's the free KZread library but I find the search tools on Epidemic Sound to be worth the price of entry. I used to spend literally hours going through the KZread free library trying to find one piece of music for a video. Now I can find the right piece of music on Epidemic Sound in a matter of minutes. It's usually better music too 😉 The subscription wasn't cheap but since I have had it, I've probably saved myself well over 50 hours of time spent searching for accompanying music. Since I am always pushed for time when making my videos, being able to use music from Epidemic Sound has been a massive help. As for me, I'm still slowly getting better, day by day. The cough is subsiding and my energy levels are improving, so hopefully now it's just a matter of time before I start feeling normal again. Cheers Lance, hugs to Leo ! ❤🐕 Garry & Ruby

Awwww thanks Bill. Really kind of you to say so ! To be honest, I made the conscious decision to not watch the news about 15 years ago. I decided that the news producers' main motivation in life was to freak me out about things that I can't do anything about anyway. I decided that I'd rather not know and would try to live in a bit more of a news vacuum, kind of like people did a couple of hundred years ago. I really only need to know what's going on in this village and the next one. 😂 Everything else either doesn't affect me directly or I have no other choice than to suck it up and deal with it because it's beyond my influence/control. I'm not sure if I am better off for living this way but I think I probably am. It's impossible for me to avoid all news anyway. You stumble across it all over the internet when you are doing other things. But at least I am not getting it rammed down my throat twice a day by the news media, just how awful and effed up the world is 🤷‍♂ So I think that helps me to remain positive in my outlook. But anyway, I am really chuffed that watching my video managed to take your mind off some of the no doubt terrible things going on in the world right now. Keep your chin up Bill and remain positive. Despite what the news media might have you think, there is still a lot of good in the world ! Cheers Bill, Angel and Sophie 🙂 Garry & Ruby ❤🐕

The hottest I saw up here in the mountains was 23C which might well have equated to about 27C down at sea level. It was a really lovely week for riding. Very little wind too, which for here is unusual. It was very frustrating not being able to go for a ride when we were having such nice weather but I did enjoy taking Ruby for an afternoon walk in a t-shirt in January. That was quite enjoyable, despite the coughing and sweating that was going on. I seem to be getting better every day this week, so if I can avoid setbacks, hopefully I will be back riding soon. Hi Quinn, thanks. This was a nice easy video to make. Managed to get it done on Sunday afternoon with the footage from last summer. Probably finding the music took the most time but even that went fairly quickly this time ( often it doesn't ! ). It was nice to once again be able to deliver some Spanish sunshine into folk's homes. I can imagine how nice it is to see something like that when it's cold, wet and miserable outside. Heck, even I would watch this video multiple times, next time we get another prolonged wet spell ! Thanks. Glad you like the t-shirt. I got a few printed last year. Just thought it might be nice to have some branding on me when I'm out and about riding in the summer 😂 The helmet is serviceable but I won't be buying another one. I have to stuff my neck tube right up into it to keep the wind noise down. You can see that in this video, even though it was probably 38C, I have my fleece neck tube on and stuffed into the helmet. Unfortunately the C4s and probably C5s don't fit my head shape. They are too short back to front and too wide left to right. So I have gaps on each side where the wind gets in if I don't stuff something up there. It also presses pretty hard against my forehead because the shell is not long enough front to back. This helmet demonstrates to me more clearly than any other that I have a long, narrow skull, rather than a short fat one. So from here on in, I will have to stick to brands which shape their helmets for more oval head shapes. I believe that Shoei are one such brand but there are others. I think my previous Scorpion helmet fitted my head shape, I think it was just half a size too small to be comfortable. So no, not really happy with it but I can live with it and I do enjoy the integrated bluetooth. That works really well and the speakers can't be felt pressing on your ears at all, which is great. If it fits your head shape, it would probably be a decent enough helmet but I don't think they are worth the money these days. Like you said back in the day, I think they peaked with the C3 and C3 PRO helmets and have gone downhill ever since. I can't buy them anymore because clearly they are not designed for people with more oval head shapes 🤬 I am seriously considering buying another helmet this year, if finances allow. I spend a lot of time in a helmet and I'd really like to find a COMFORTABLE and QUIET one. Just for a change. It's been a while since I had one of those because the Scorpion was nice and quiet but a bit of a tight fit. The guy in the shop said it would probably give over time but even then it was still too tight to be comfortable. We'll see. If I can find the right helmet at the right price, I might buy another. I have a SENA headset doing nothing, which I could fit into it, no problem. But if finances don't allow or I can't be arsed shopping around for helmets, I will definitely be able to soldier on with the Schuberth for another year or two. It's not terrible, just not ideal. Cheers mate. Long answer ! 😂 Garry & Ruby

Hi there CC ! Yes, I totally get that. I watch a lot of moto vloggers in the UK and quite often, when I watch their videos and the state of the roads with the potholes and sunken manhole covers etc., I do find myself thinking "That doesn't look like much fun. More avoiding obstacles than enjoying the bike and the road." When I was younger and living in the UK, yes, there were some notoriously bad stretches of road but there were also some good ones. So you'd just avoid the bad ones and ride on the good ones. These days I imagine that quite a lot of people are facing quite a ride to get to a good bit of road, depending upon where you live. I imagine the state of the roads over there is one of the reasons why so many people are swapping their sports bikes for ADV bikes !!! A Himalayan would cope pretty well in that sort of an environment but the Meteor or my previous Street Triple R could be painful ! Cheers CC. I hope your roads get sorted soon. If not, fly into Malaga, rent a bike there and quickly get bored of riding on near perfect tarmac which will have you yearning for a decent pothole to avoid 😉 Be careful out there 🙂👍🏻 Garry & Ruby

Hi Pete 🙂 Prepare for a long answer 😂 Yes, I am currently using a Schuberth C4 PRO with the integrated SC1 bluetooth system. In terms of functionality it is a very good helmet. As you can see in this video, it has a very tall and very wide visor opening, so probably the best helmet I've ever had in terms of visibility. The "lifesaver" look over your shoulder is really easy with this helmet, you don't have to swivel your head through 120 degrees before you see something 😝 Ventilation is pretty poor IMO and it's one of those helmets where, when you open the visor just one notch, it directs the airflow directly into your eyes, which forces you to close it again. Safety-wise, in a crash, it should be a good helmet but be aware that it is only certified in the closed position. You are not legally allowed to ride around with it flipped up, although many people of course do. It only has the certified integrity in the CLOSED position. Another negative is that the quality is not what you would expect for the price. Within a month the bottom vent broke and I had to send it in for repair. TBF the helmet came back repaired within two weeks, so customer service appears to be decent and I think it has a 5+ year warranty. But overall the helmet creaks and rattles a fair bit, something I wasn't really anticipating. Although this is supposed to be one of the quietest helmets out there ( and I can see how it could be ), for me it is not particularly quiet. The reason being that these C4 helmets are very much shaped for round heads and I have an oval head. So I have gaps each side where the wind gets inside the helmet and the helmet presses fairly hard against my forehead because I need a longer helmet shell, front to back. Unfortunately I usually have to buy helmets online, because any store that sells motorcycle gear that is anywhere near to me, will have maybe one or two helmets from known brands and then a ton of cheapo Chinese helmets. I bought the C4 online, tried it on indoors, it felt ok so then I peeled the stickers off it ready for a first road test. It was only then that the issues became apparent. I do enjoy the integrated comms system and the speakers do not create any pressure on your ears at all, you don't even notice that they are there and it works pretty well IMO. So to summarise : If you think you might have an oval ( long, narrow ) rather than a round ( short, fat ) head, then the Schuberth is probably not going to be for you. I would recommend trying one on if you can and seeing if the helmet is sealing underneath all the way around. If that's the case, it should be a nice quiet helmet for you. Because I think the quality is not what it should be for the price, I would recommend that you buy one that has been discounted. The C5 has been out for a while now and I've seen C4s and C4 Pros going for prices which I think are fair value. Be aware that ventilation is not great, so if you tend to get claustrophobic with the visor shut, this helmet might not be the best. I can't ride for more than a minute with the visor part open because the wind blast goes straight into my eyes and they quickly start watering. Overall I am able to live with the Schuberth for now but I won't be buying another one because it doesn't suit my head shape. It's a shame because if it had been as quiet as it is supposed to be, apart from the poor ventilation I would have had no real complaints. Good luck deciding and here's hoping you can avoid the SMIDSYs from here on in ! Cheers Pete 👍🏻 Garry
