Hi Dave, I must admit that we've had some lovely days in the run up to Christmas. Since then the clouds have returned but fortunately it hasn't rained yet. Sorry Willow but there will be more sunshine in next Tuesday's video 🤷‍♂ but I think your Dad will enjoy it because it will remind him of better days to come ! Riding in the mountains on days like those really does take some beating Dave. Best of all, practically no wind, which has been extremely rare for us this year. We didn't have many days at all when it wasn't windy, so blue skies and a lack of wind really felt like a special occurrence. Tuesday's video was filmed a couple of days after this one but the weather is more of the same 👍🏻 Thanks for your loyal support in 2023 Dave and Willow and we look forward to entertaining you in 2024. Hi James, yes, particularly on these loose surfaces, going up seems to be WAY easier than coming down. Coming down you are always in danger of locking something up and sliding off. Going up seems to be pretty straightforward, you can just concentrate on picking your line. So without realising it, I started out doing the hard part and have now moved over to the easy part. Trust me to get it wrong ! 😂 Norman really feels like my bike now and has just about managed 2000 miles, so should be fully run in. I find him to be more than adequate for all of my on road and off-road riding. I really am not seeing the need for a 452 at the moment. Norman is just what I need and has nothing I don't need. 🥰 Cheers James 🍺 Garry & Ruby

Hi Gerry, got a small beginner drone from my girlfriend for Christmas - so together with my little Rollei GoPro copy and my trusty old Sony A7, I have no excuses anymore for not doing some videos…😇😂 Did my first test flights this morning outdoors and it did pretty well and giving me tons of fun. So be warned to see some Honda PCX and Harley Sportster stuff this year. Wouldn’t do videos on a time shedule, but maybe 2-3 a year as I‘m very busy in the new job…

The "Trail of Death" has now also been filmed and it was a similarly gorgeous day ! Well Ken, "Trail of Death" MIGHT be overstating it slightly 😉 - don't get too hyped for it or you might be somewhat disappointed. I only call it that because it caused me to have my first ever "off" with Norman and where I chose to fall off there happened to be a big rock waiting to hurt me, which I fortunately narrowly avoided. These sunny winter days are an absolute delight for riding these gorgeous mountain trails. Very little wind and comfortable temperatures. What more could I ask for ? Yes that low sun is absolutely right in our eyes there!! Really clear views when you look across towards those hills and valleys, Garry. I DO like this trail riding lark you do. Hi Peter, glad you are enjoying these videos too. I don't want to be riding fast off-road. I view it as more of a nature ramble on two wheels. For me it's about getting up, down and around on a motorcycle whilst enjoying the beautiful sights and smells as I go. Hopefully we'll get a spring this year ( the past two years we didn't, we went from winter straight into summer ) and we'll get to see everything when it's covered in wild flowers 🥰 Stefan from Bulgaria told me about the TAYM placing earlier today. I had no idea. I told Stefan that I'm not sure that I'm even amongst the top ten vloggers in this house, let alone anywhere else 😂 Stefan sent me a link to the video and I intend to watch it with my morning coffee tomorrow and will make sure that I thank everybody who voted for me, next time I get out filming 👍 I might even have to get some t-shirts printed, celebrating this grand achievement 😂 Who is Bengie ? 🤔 You are so cruel ! Hi Lance, Norman has done just about 2k miles now, so is finally nicely run in. He has improved quite a bit since I bought him and I am more than happy with his final torque and horsepower. Any more power would most likely just get me into more trouble on the trails ! Happy New Year to you and Leo from Ruby and me !

Norman nailed it up the track, sun really does affect riding when low. Half way, till the new riding season commences over here. Still hoping for a dry clear day, to head out. But it either wet or frosty. Hopefully all is good with yourself and Ruby. Happy New Year.😊

Hi Mark, aye, Norman is now really starting to show me how good he is at this sort of riding ! Tune in on Tuesday to see us tackling my "Trail of Death" as an ascent 😱👍🏻 Generally, at least on loose surfaces, going up seems to be a lot easier than coming down. Much less scary 👍🏻, presumably because it doesn't feel like you could lose the front at any moment, like it sometimes does when you are coming down. Unfortunately since Christmas I have been very ill with that virus which shall not be named ( third time I've had it now ! ). That means that I won't be able to put out a HNY video as I had intended, so Happy New Year Mark and thank you so much for your support in 2023, it means a lot ! Ruby and I will keep things crossed for you that you get some decent riding weather soon. And now I'd better get back to bed and try to get healthy in time for 2024 ! Over Christmas and New Year I was hoping to get out and film a couple of videos but of course the illness has put paid to all of that 🤬 Cheers Mark, Garry & Ruby

I'm waiting on the local RE dealer to get the new Himalayans in. Hoping that they will be still within the average owner's ability to work on them and they have a more suitable hp for where I live.

Finally watched this and Congratulations on Norman doing the ascent (also relief that gravity still holds sway!) I was taken with that veteran tree seen at 6:30 and also wondering why more mature trees aren't seen as when you go through forests all the trees seem very young?

Hi CC, thanks, glad you enjoyed it ( presumably you enjoyed it - yes of course you did 😝 ). Well I believe that the very densely forested areas are actually genuine forestry. Certainly on the trail to Calar Alto there are loads and loads of little bits of chopped off branches all along the trail and lots of tree stumps. The older trees will just be trees that somebody once planted on their land or are possibly even natural. But there are definitely parts up there where they are actually cultivating trees deliberately. Traditionally probably for fuel ( lots of people here still use wood for heating ) and these days possibly more for building etc. Next week's video is the ascent up my "Trail of Death" so stand by for another dose of winter sunshine CC 👍🏻 Since Christmas I've had COVID, don't think I'll be able to get a HNY video out as intended. Hi Jeff, yes, I've discovered that trails look a lot steeper when you come down them. When you go up them, they flatten out a bit ( visually ) and therefore seem a lot less intimidating. I've since mastered the Trail of Death so there is no stopping me now. Now I am ready to really start exploring new trails ! Congratulations on getting so close to Noraly in TAYM's vote btw.. Now that you've confirmed my off-road "godness", I should probably get it printed on a t-shirt 🥳🤗 Going up is definitely easier than coming down because the front end is unloaded so less chance of losing it on a dodgy surface. Trust me to have started with the hard part first and to then crash on the first attempt 😂 Tuesday's video is my attempt to climb up my own personal "Trail of Death" ( the crashy one ). It was another beautiful day, so get your shades ready ! More gorgeous scenery as well. It's a lovely trail although the sand in the bends can be a bit intimidating. But Norman can handle it. Can I though ? Well, tune in on Tuesday to find out - nice plug eh ? 😂 I was hoping to get a HNY video out for Sunday but after Christmas I got COVID and I can't see me being in a fit state to make one. That was a nice suprise Gary. Turned on my Chromebook and there you were . There were some really steep gradients and Norman handled them admirably , with you on board Gary . I was impressed how that engine really lugs at really low revs . there cant be many engines that do that as well . I wonder if the new model will lose out on some of that tracktability in the search for higher performance .? till next time and Linda says hi . when i was in my 20s and did some trials riding ,non expert . i found uphill sections less scary than drops down .

Hi John, yes, I decided to release this one at midday, thinking that a lot of people may have family commitments this evening 🙂 I'm beginning to think that Norman would probably chug up a wall if I asked him to ! He's done just about 2000 miles now and is nicely run in. He has all of the power and torque that I need for what I bought him for. Apparently the Himalayan 452 is very similar to the 411 in its torque and power delivery, just a bit more of everything everywhere ! I already agree that going uphill seems to be easier than coming down. Particularly on the loose surfaces I have to deal with up in the mountains. So it seems that I inadvertently started out doing the most difficult part but that's ok, it means that I am now really enjoying riding uphill. My "Trail of Death" 😂 is up next ! Take care you two. Hi Martin, yes, the trail is beautiful in either direction but going up it definitely seemed a lot easier because the front tyre wasn't loaded up on the looser sections. Descending on loose stuff is a bit more sketchy because the front is loaded and the ground underneath it can start to move about when you least expect/need it to. Unfortunately I'm very ill at the moment and won't manage to get a New Year's video out after all, so Happy New Year Martin and I look forward to hopefully meeting you in person in 2024 ! Garry, I have enjoyed watching your channel for close to two years now. I discovered it about the same time I got my Meteor 350. You seem be riding in an area where there are great roads and little traffic and I think many viewers would be interested knowing what part of Spain you live in so perhaps you could show us on a map the general area where you live. I'm glad to hear that you have been enjoying my channel for a while now 🙂 I have mentioned it in various videos but I am generally riding in the province of Almeria and usually within an hour's radius of the city of Almeria itself. I've also included animated maps of some of my rides but they do a pretty poor job of showing my actual location, I must admit. For my rides with Buddy I might try to include a still of the area according to Google Earth or whatever works best. Hi Pete. Thanks. Yes, the leg is better, although it took a couple of days to heal. The simple act of going to bed is obviously too strenuous for my old body these days 😂 I was out on Saturday, riding my "Trail of Death" and it was another beautifully sunny day and fortunately I was out a couple of hours earlier, so the sun never really got in my eyes. It was the most enjoyable off-road ride yet though. Really starting to get into Norman now, loving it. Of course, perfect weather also helps 😝 Cheers Pete. I wouldn't rule out getting one myself if work goes well next year 🤔 The Speed 400 seems like great value, although I could see myself cultivating a hipster beard and buying the overpriced ( IMO ) Scrambler X instead 😂

Just been having a great time here with friends who have just left so when to saw this I thought I'd add my two penn'oth (that's trickier to write, than say, isn't it... Now then... I too like the look of the Triumph and the price is competitive but like you say, G, there's the X thing yo consider. However... Do you really want to grow a beard and wear desert boots? And what does Ruby think? And James - have you taken a HNTR for a reasonable run to get the feel of one? It's air-cooled (cannot boil, cannot freeze 🤣🤣) so that's most definite plus. Can't be doing with new fangled water cooling.. Whatever you both do come 2024, enjoy doing it and look forward to seeing and hearing all about it. Peter

I've never followed trends, always gone my own way, really. So if I did get a Scrambler, it would almost certainly be for the looks rather than the lifestyle !
