Performed on the 'Will Kenny Everett Make it To 1980' New Years Eve TV Special on ITV back at the very end of 1979.

The whole thing works: from his white suit to the slim sliver microphone, to the bands colours - and yes, of course, the dancers. Potato mashing at 1.29 is inspired choreography. Ferry is the epitome of 'cool'.

I could watch the ladies all day. I love the retro 1960’s dancing!

Ferry is timeless.....so appropriate now for the theme of that Kenny Everette show being stuck in time....would be most excellent to forever be in 1979!

Starting at 1:39, Bryan gives us a few moments of priceless full-throttle goofy action, arms flailing & head flopping back in awkward abandon, which only adds to the charm & cool of his performance. And of course it augurs all the wonderfully bad dancing the 80s will bring

No, The midnight hour is a Wilson Pickett cover from 1965, the goofy dancing girls are a throwback reference of 1960s cheesiness, there was no bad dancing in the 80s, only cool and style. Roxy Music got away with it because they define cool

It takes guts to cover Wicked Wilson and talent to pull it off. Bryan's got both of those and style galore.

wow! I got hooked on Roxy with Dance Away in '79 and remember watching this in awe when this came on in the middle of the brilliant Kenny Everett Show way back when! Bond, Bryan, ABBA(!), formative years they were..love THIS version of the best cover version BF has done, much different to the album version - is it on (god help me!), eh, CD??

A good cover version of the Wilson Pickett song.

This is one of the best renditions of the song I've heard and seen - not as urgent or in yer face as The Jam's version (the last track on their second LP: This Is The Modern World), but, a cool cover of a soul classic all the same. Thanks for uploading.

A wonderful cover made even better here by the dancing girls. Only Roxy could pull that off. And I like how this is mixed differently from the LP from 1:25 to 1:43.

The drum track was rerecorded after drummer Paul Thompson was sacked in early 1980

Hmm, so Paul Thompson did appear on this song before he left in early 1980? Because on the song credits for the album Flesh + Blood he is not listed on this song. But this video is from late 79. Strange!

Sounds like they had the drum track re-recorded so as to avoid giving him an album credit - cheap, petty minded treatment of a truly superb musician.

Great video, but it needs more dancing girls. And perhaps some cowbell.

This, even for RM, is just too much. Sad to hear about Paul Thompson.
